OUR VALUES
SUMMER LEARNING To succeed in school and life, children and young adults need ongoing opportunities to learn and practice essential skills. This is especially true during the summer months when children lose much of what they learn during the school year. YMCA of Greater New York Day Camps provide high-quality summer learning initiatives that give children a variety of ways to improve reading and math skills as well as gives opportunities to explore music, drama, art and sports. Through fun, themedbased curriculum that incorporates key academic components, children will practice and further their academic skills, learn to plan and create projects, encourage teamwork and develop new skills. To inspire reading, our program will provide books recommended by the Department of Education for summer reading.

DAY CAMP (AGES 5.5 – 11)
ARTS CAMP (AGES 7-12)
Day Camp is an all inclusive camp experience. The West Side Y is proud to present ―A World of Pure Imagination,‖ our themed-based camp curriculum. Throughout the summer, campers will explore and bring to life the worlds of famous characters in fiction and animation, through art, dance, language, technology and play. Physical and recreational activity is also a vital part of the camp experience. Campers will have outdoor excursions to local parks to participate in sports and recreational activities. Twice weekly, every camper will have the opportunity to receive instructional swim in our indoor pool. Weekly trips to museums, local attractions, zoos and cultural events are a part of the camp experience gained by exploring the sights of New York City. Children must have completed kindergarten to attend Day Camp.
Arts Camp introduces children to the performing and visual arts. During this enriching program, children will develop their artistic ability through singing, dancing, acting, sculpting, painting, and much more. They will experience a wide range of cultural activities through performances specifically geared to their theme-based projects.

MOVIN’ ON UP CAMP (Ages 12-14) A special summer experience awaits pre-teens and teens enrolled in the Movin’ On Up Camp. There are many scheduled activities, but Movin’ On Up Camp emphasizes independent decision-making so that young people are encouraged to choose their activities. Swimming, sports, technology, photography, dance, art, and trips are all offered, as well as leadership development activities. Community service teaches youth how to make a positive impact in their neighborhoods. Movin’ On Up Camp helps preteens and teens develop social skills and leadership ability while having loads of fun. For more information contact Kathryn Wright, kwright@ymcanyc.org or 212-912-2640.

KINDER CAMP (Ages 3.5-5.5) This camp introduces young children to summer day camp. Small kids have the same fun as the big kids, but they stay closer to home, keep shorter hours and have rest time built into their schedules. Classroom activities are organized in one-to-two week themes designed by the head counselors. Campers swim three times a week and enjoy storytelling, music, sports, games, and a weekly field trip. (Children must be fully potty trained to participate.) This camp fills up every year so we encourage you to register as soon as possible. Our camp is the exception to the weekly session design seen in other camps. Registration for the month of July is only available for the full month.
