The primary objective is to get both the parent and child comfortable in the water. The child will become aware of the differences between moving through water and on dry land, while the parent will become aware of how to teach his or her child to be safer in and around the water. Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in the water while the parent guides him or her to learn aquatic skills. The child will be exposed to games that use basic movements in the water such as kicking, arm strokes, and breath control. Activities are based on the developmental abilities of the child. The Parent-Child program has four levels, all determined by age. Classes meet once per week. Parent or guardian must be able to participate with child in the water.

Its familiar story of the von Trapp family and the woman who starts as their governess has proven to be far more than a simple tale. As with any good story, there is an underlying truth: that we each have a life we were born to live, and it is our task to find that life. And, of course, for THE SOUND OF MUSIC Rodgers & Hammerstein wrote some of the best songs of all time. The fact that in collaboration with iTheatrics we can now bring a student version of THE SOUND OF MUSIC to the school market is reason for celebration,” says Chapin.

FICTION | Open to All Levels THE WRITING ROOM REGISTER There’s a reason why writers gravitate to cafes and libraries, where it can help just to be surrounded by others doing the same thing. The challenge of persevering through the long and lonely process of writing a full-length work can be daunting. The Writing Room is here to help. Whether you’re putting off starting a novel, memoir or narrative non-fiction; slogging through the middle of one; or slaving over the zillionth draft, this class aims to help you do the one thing that can’t be avoided in order to reach the end: sitting down to write. Class members must bring a laptop to every session -- or pen and paper, if preferred. Students will spend the bulk of each session working on his or her project. We will NOT distribute pages to other class members or spend time critiquing projects as a group. Instead, only the instructor will read works in progress. Over the course of the semester, she will discuss work with individual class members, who will each receive at least two one-on-one conferences. Time will also be reserved during every session to talk about developing editing skills and weathering the revision process. Writing prompts will be given to those who are blocked or stuck.
