WHY WE’RE HERE FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
FOR HEALTHY LIVING
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the YMCA, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.
Improving our community’s health and well-being In neighborhoods across the five boroughs, the YMCA is a leading voice on health and well-being. The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, youth, adults and families are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors The YMCA has been listening and responding to New York City’s most critical social needs for 160 years. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being through education and training, welcoming and connecting diverse demographic populations through global services, or preventing chronic disease and building healthier communities through collaborations with policy makers, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve.
We’re Here for Good. It’s been the signature phrase of New York City’s YMCA since early 2008, and it describes the Y’s commitment to building the foundations of—and strengthening—our communities, through nurturing the potential of every child and teen, improving community health and well-being and providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors. We’re here for you and your family. We’re here for the community. We’re here for good.

AQUATICS
This beginner level gets school-age children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices, and front and back floating. By the end of this level, children can swim across the pool without assistance.
Students at this level continue to improve their strokes, starts and turns, and are introduced to the new strokes. Opportunities are provided for further work on synchronized swimming, wetball, and skin diving.
Guppy
Porpoise Club
Children build upon basic skills, performing more skills without the aid of a flotation device. They are introduced to front and back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. By the end of this level, children can swim a length of the pool without assistance.
Minnow
This is the initial intermediate skill. The children refine the lead-up strokes they have learned and learn more synchronized swimming, wetball, and diving skills.
Fish
Students work on strokes, turns and are introduced to butterfly. They continue learning synchronized swimming movements, wetball skills, and diving skills.
Flying Fish
At this advanced level, students work on refining strokes and increasing endurance. They continue to develop their synchronized swimming, diving and personal safety skills.
Different from a swim team, the Porpoise Club allows children to experience many aquatic activities such as conditional swimming and water polo. Through these activities we will work to grow self-confidence, goal setting, and team building.
Youth Stroke Clinic
Swimmers who want to refine their strokes and stay in form or prepare for swim team will enjoy the summer stroke clinic. This class meets three times a week and includes endurance, drills, turns, technique work, relay work, and race days. Develop and maintain your strokes in this fun and mildly competitive swim clinic!
Pre-Swim Team
This mildly competitive class meets twice a week to prepare kids in taking the next step towards swim team. Swimmers who haven’t decided if swim team is right for them will enjoy this class. Classes include endurance, drills, turns, technique, relay, and race practices.

Tender Care has five spacious, well-equipped classrooms. The facility is equipped with pediatric toilets in the classrooms, a resource/library room, an art room, and indoor playspaces.
