Water Safety and Swim Lessons Did you know drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1 to 4 and second leading cause of unintentional deaths among children ages 5 to 14. Swim for Jenny Memorial Fund was established after 12-year-old Jenny Nguyen lost her life in a drowning accident while attending a schoolmate’s birthday party. Like too many other children in South Florida, Jenny did not know how to swim. Sadly Miami-Dade and Broward counties continue to lead the state in drowning deaths, but together with your support, we can help save lives. Each year the YMCA of South Florida educates parents and the community on the risks of drowning and need for drowning prevention measures like water safety and swim lessons. Plus, we provide free swim lessons to make them safer in, on and around the water, during Swim for Jenny Week.
Contact your local Y for more information.
