Title: Use electric scooters to combat air pollution
Description: As we are aware, India’s capital New Delhi is going through a critical issue of haze these days. Well, not just Delhi but also other major cities of our country are engulfed in extreme air pollution. There are a lot of reasons behind such condition – Burning plants, organic debris, industrial smoke and vehicle exhaust are to name a few. As far as our national capital Delhi is being talked about, this metro city has been facing the issue of heavy air pollution since many weeks now. But this situation has even got worse after this Diwali and the smog has become a critical issue which has to be addressed immediately. Smog is nothing but the toxic mixture of vehicle exhaust, moisture, and dust. The recent atmosphere condition had an air quality having very high proportion of particulate matter, 15 times more than the defined safety limit. Even the even-odd program which was announced a few months back didn’t come to the help. The Delhi Government has to take some really effective and quick steps to cope up the situation that was getting worse day by day. That is the reason why Delhi Government had declared an emergency situation and made some necessary announcements. Let us have a look at some major announcements made by the officials.
Key announcements made by the Delhi Officials
Some educational institutes as well as the schools will be kept closed for some days. The authorities shall seriously give a thought to developing artificial rain in order to remove heavy dust from the air. Demolition and construction work of all types will not be carried out for a few days. The roads will be vacuum cleaned. The Public Works Department will have to sprinkle water on 100-feet roads. A coal power plant - ‘Badarpur Thermal Power Station’ will remain closed for more than a week till the situation is under control. Generators powered by diesel will not be used for some days. Previously launched ‘odd-even vehicle program’ will be implemented again so that the haze and traffic jam situations can be resolved.
However India’s capital is facing some serious issues these days, there are also other metro cities and mega cities like Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai which are not left behind from the issue of heavy air pollution. They too have the same issue of low air quality in more or less proportion. However the local and central authorities are doing so much to curb this smog, the situation is tough to be solved. True that the others are doing but what are we? Can we do anything to combat the worst quality of air? Let’s have a look at what we can do for the same.
Things that we can do to curb pollution
Reduce the use of diesel and petrol powered automobiles Buy electric bikes and electric scooters As far as possible, prefer public transport over private cab Increase using the equipments that use renewable energy such as solar panels, solar cookers, wind mills, etc. Tell others about using the no-pollution electric scooters Stop cutting trees Plant more and more trees Opt for the battery bikes Spread awareness of planting new trees
Considering the current condition in Delhi and other Tier II - Tier I cities in India as well as many other highly-populated countries such as China, the issue of bad air quality requires to be addressed very soon. And as the smoke generating conventional automobiles is one of the key causes, we all should start using electrically powered battery bikes. This is the most effective way we can curb heavy smog and pollution.
