Cancer- it’s a word everybody dreads hearing, for one simple reason- the poor cancer survival rate. This disease leaves its patients living on borrowed time, that, most of the times, hits the last minute faster than what that last minute should have been.

Can-stop is a centre for counselling (information, advice, consolation, listening) for cancer-affected patients, their families, and friends. It is an organisation where its volunteers can go and visit patients suffering from cancer (mostly children) during weekends, to play with them and let them know that you’re there for them.
Now, how about cancer in children? Sweet, innocent children that have yet to grow up and see the beauty of the world but now cannot because of a disease that, in some cases, does not have a cure? It is excruciatingly painful. In conversation with Manasa Mahadevan, a 10th grader in Chennai and a volunteer at Can-stop, she narrates to us what she does with these young souls, and how you can do it too! Here "Can- Stop organises rallies against smoking, drinking and other things that are we go: high in the cancer- causing list. They also "I volunteer with Can-Stop, an organisation conduct drawing and painting competitions that believes in cancer support therapy to for the children with cancer, to take their overcome pain whose basic goal is to help mind of the pain and just to have a little bit of people learn more about dealing with Cancer fun!" and related problems." She also adds, smiling, "The children are
really sweet and simply love to play with other people, especially kids! The Can- Stop people also have really big hearts and are always on the lookout for volunteers to help them with their truly touching cause! In reply as to how other people can join, she says: It’s really very easy; all you have to do is call at 044 – 26284256 and ask for Mrs. Dhanalakshmi, tell her why you want to volunteer and once that’s done, you can visit the kids during the weekends at the Government Hospital, Egmore- Pantheon Road, Egmore, Chennai- 600008.” You too can volunteer, for it makes children fighting against a terrible disease really happy; really happy to see that you’re there, helping them through what probably will be the hardest time of their lives. Moreover, cancer is not a disease that spreads through proximity or touch, so you will be 100% safe while you’re making another smile!
