Brittany Dorm | The Visionary
BY HANNAH BEARD | MARKETING & MERCHANT ENGAGEMENT MANAGER
Brittany Dorm was born in York, Pennsylvania and grew up in New York and Georgia before finding her way back home. She spent her childhood in front of the camera modeling, taking after her father who also modeled. Through this journey, she became curious about the intricacies of how images were captured behind the lens. Brittany was given her first camera was she was eight years old, sparking her love for capturing people.
She served in the United States Army then graduated cum laude from University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a Bachelor of Arts in photography. Through these fundamental years in her life as a young adult, Brittany continued to keep her camera close so her passion could become her livelihood.
Brittany has positioned her business, Brittany Nicole Photography, to reflect her natural and learned skills to bring the personalities of her clients through in the photos. In addition to shooting for brands, special events, fashion, and lifestyle, Brittany has a way with family sessions that sets her process apart from the rest. If a child shows interest in what she’s doing behind the camera during a session, she’ll lend them a camera to shoot real photos alongside her. During these sessions, she has found that the best photos are captured when the kids can be themselves without too much direction or restraint.
Brittany is known for accurately capturing melanated skin tones that are true to the eye, representing these tones correctly through photography. “I try to capture what I see the best way possible and as true as possible.”
She also shares her knowledge of photography with others through hands-on classes and workshops, previously held at the Parliament Arts Organization in the Royal Square District during her time as an Artist in Residency from 2021-2022.
Brittany is energized by York’s creative community, and thrives on collaboration. Her goal is to connect residents of York City with its vibrant arts and entertainment scene to show them that their creati e ho y can e sustaine an flourish with the support of local creatives. Brittany’s vision for the future of her career is to open an agency that connects creatives on both sides of the camera with real career opportunities, while providing them with training to harness their craft.
“York is full of so many talented people. I have been all over the world and most of the talent I have seen is here.”
