What does it mean to you to love unconditionally? Love is so expansive, so many different layers. The foundation of every reaction should be love, grace, and compassion. In order to reach that place of application can be tricky because you have to have been working on yourself quite a bit in order to have that capacity of Love within you to have it be unconditional. It is definitely easier said than done, and I feel it is one of those things I will be working on and continuing to learn about for the rest of my life. But I do understand we are here to give Love and be loved, It is the premise of our existence. And it is applied in all aspects, your relationship with Nature, creation, all that is living, to unconditionally respect and love It all. You had your fair share of trials and tribulations growing up. What mindset did you have to develop and adopt in order to utilize that to your advantage and move forward instead of creating more harm in the world? There was not really just one thing. There is so much to how a person moves through a rollercoaster of life. So many things such as geographic, settings, environment, all play a role in how you react to what life gives you. Also, if I was just doing poetry or playing songs it’d be one thing, but the fact that I am very active in the community is what helped me heal. I am very active and busy with the world. I am on the ground involved in starting projects and social movements, which allowed me to find the family I have been searching for. Those actions I take are ultimately what healed me and allowed me to utilize my experiences and see them in a different light. So I am aware that you indulge in the art of Yoga. What influenced you to step on a mat and how has Yoga helped you in your own personal life? I have always stretched, it was not particularly about the art of yoga back then necessarily, I just always took part in what made my body feel good. But over the years, having so many friends that were yoga instructors, or were just a part of the community definitely got me submerged in taking part of the art of Yoga. But overall, I just do whatever makes my body feel good. Your new album, HOKA, is a call to action. What does that action look like for the ordinary citizen with no guidance or direction on how to make a difference?
HOKA is a tool book to use during this revolution. One of those tools is immediate action, at any level. Removing yourself from corporate banks, focusing your world on guerilla farming which I believe is a huge piece of our future, we need to feed our warriors in order to sustain the battle. Not supporting the purchase of bottled water that comes from the big corporate companies such as Crystal Geyser and Nestle. And another huge part is voting. Getting involved in your local politics, supporting the millennials and generations before and after them to take part in our local offices that allows us to rebuild our corrupted democracy. Everyone’s part is big. Nothing moves without the collected consciousness of the community. Big or small, anyone can make a difference. What does it mean to you to connect Self to a divine energy or spirit? And why is it important to do so? To me, it simply means a way of life. If I am living a life where I will just once in a while go meditate, take part in a ceremony, like sweat lodges here and there, that is not commitment. That is like trying out Buddhism. You don’t just try out Buddhism. You are either in or you are out. Everyone has their own version of Source. We are so inundated in the chaos surrounding us in society, that I feel overall it is just vital for wellness purposes. If there was one message you would give to this world during such times of confusion and chaotic change, what would it be? To apply the medicine. There are so many folks that have been alchemically working on brewing up the teas, metaphorically speaking, and I feel we have been working up to this for a long time, but the wound has recently been blasted open that it has become easy for us to see where the medicine needs application. We must apply the medicine in the affected areas. Everyone has their own “brews”, their own medicine. We must become practitioners now in order to remove the poison that is infecting our planet. Now is the time. If you are still trying to figure out what your medicine is, I would say hurry up, because we need some help haha. We will be alright, but every great empire must fall. We are facing some very interesting times ahead so suit up and let’s get back to work. The wicked do not rest, so neither shall we. yogaguide.com

S
hirshasana, also known as a headstand, is one of the basic introductory asanas to commencing your inversion practice, yet it is known to be one of the most powerful and paramount of all asanas. It creates a reverse affect in gravity. Standing allows blood flow, nutrients, and oxygen to flow through the body from the head to the toes. But, when upside down, Shirshasana tricks the body. Everything becomes opposite. Blood rushes in the opposite direction, from toes to head, allowing the upper portion of the body to receive the most attention. It allows the torso and lower half of the body to take a break. By sending nutrients and blood flow to the brain, pituitary, adrenal and hypothalamus glands, face and scalp, vital repair of these regions takes place. Headstands rejuvenate and restore fresh blood to these areas, creating a restoration in youth. When speaking about the scalp, the same concept as using shampoo and conditioner to restore hair follicles is applied here. Nutrients to the scalp decrease the onset of grey hair, allowing the hair to grow vibrant and healthy, restoring its natural feel and growth. Simultaneously, the face creates a bit of a glow from all the fresh oxygen through blood circulation to the skin. As an added bonus, Shirshasana helps to prevent macular degeneration, improving any sort of irritation in the eye region. The adrenal glands are responsible for producing vital hormones that help to control blood pressure, regulation of your metabolism, stress levels, and help improve the testosterone and androgens in the body, which means better functionality in your sex life. Being upside down squeezes these glands, cleans them out, so their function is optimal. When Shirshasana is performed with proper alignment, there are plenty of strength benefits that come in to play when performing this asana. The main muscles used to engage in headstand are the shoulders and upper back. It forces the shoulders to have to engage in order to create separation from the trapezius to the neck, creating space, and reducing risk of injury. The vertebrae that is connected to the cervical region are at high risk of being compressed if there is no contraction of the trapezius and deltoids.
How To Do Shirshasana:
4. Raise the knees from floor, walk your toes closer towards the hands
1. Begin with a cushioned mat where your head will rest comfortably (Beginners, suggested to do against a wall)
5. Pick one leg up and point it to the sky, use it a balance point, then using the toes, push off and swing the alternate leg up while firmly pressing the elbows into the ground.
2. Rest the forearms onto the center of your mat/blanket, keeping them shoulder width apart. 3. Tightly interlock your fingers, leaving a gap for the back of the head to fill the space from palm to palm.

6. Straighten the legs perpendicular to the ground, create space from the shoulders to the neck 7. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!

2016
was quite a roller coaster year. Many of us are looking to 2017 for a more stable ride. In numerology, we are entering a 1 year, after leaving the 9 year of 2016. 2016 was a closing chapter, every good ending has its intensity. That is not to say 2017 isn’t intense, or just as edgy. Every year has its uniqueness, but 2017 continues the transit of Saturn through Sagittarius. This placement of Saturn started in December of 2014, and will end in December of 2017. Saturn makes us grow up, and shows us where we can be more responsible. In the sign of Sagittarius, its starts with our beliefs, optimism and research. We start the first three months of 2017 pretty intense. A lot of people are hoping for a mellow transition into 2017, but the beginning of the year starts with a new course for many. No longer will doing the same thing work any longer, there is a lot of the past to clear up, old stories that are tired and old, and the feeling to get our lives back on track. Things will really pick up on the New Moon of January 27-28 when Mars will enter Aries. You will see things move much faster and manifest at the speed of light, so choose carefully what you wish for. The eclipses will come starting on February 26th. Eclipse time of late February, into mid March will be a major clearing for us all. This will be the final Solar Eclipse in Pisces, A Venus Retrograde which comes every 18 months and the Final Lunar Eclipse in Virgo. Relationships, projects and any story that is not healthy in our lives will be out to the final test during this time. I would be prepared

for a wild ride Late February into April. There is also the final act of the Pluto Uranus Square, a planetary alignment that has been affecting us all for the last 5 years. It has been a neurotic and almost fragile collective nervous system that has been shocking out of control. This should be, one of the final shocks we will feel as a collective. During this portal, Mars will meet up with Uranus and oppose Jupiter. This is very extreme time for anger issues, war and taking things too far. Be very aware of your anger, your ambitions not pushing too far, and making sure you are using this power for good and not bad. Many of us will use this energy to create new stories of love, happiness and positive new lives. This is what the first 3 months of 2017 are all about. It will not happen, sitting on the porch with your lemonade, you must clean it up yourself. The ultimate test of your awareness, consciousness and compassion will show you who you really are.

How would you describe the art of yoga? To me the art of yoga is hidden in the things you love the most. I learn the limitations of my mind and body and how to challenge them in that safe space, so that when I am out in the world I can remember to use these tools to conquer the moments when life hands me challenges off the mat. Not everyone has the same kind of heart as you.
What enticed you to embark on the journey of yoga? When I began yoga, I was at the end of my rope. Physically, I had dislocated my knee while working out with heavy weights. I took a year off from physical activity because my doctor told me to give up. A yoga instructor urged me to come try her class. It was still a struggle and an uphill battle, but one that led eventually to myself and gave me my life, body and mind back like nothing else I had every experienced.
What advice would you give to someone that is new to the practice of yoga? Try every single class you can get your hands on. Try every single teacher you can find. To me, yoga has been like dating. One moment you are ignited by a teacher, and then you seem to outgrow them. What impactful change has your practice brought upon your personal life? It has taught me self worth and perseverance. It has taught me discipline, and how to balance on my hands, something I was positive I could never do. But mostly at its core, it has given me a relationship of love with myself. It has given me a center to bring myself and

in college. I attended UC Berkeley (Go Bears!) and northern California really has a strong yoga community. How would you describe the art of yoga? Yoga embodies all that is good. The art of it guides you to the present moment rooting you to the earth and to the sky creating centeredness you can shine from. There is nothing more beautiful than being close to a natural state. Being able to shed all the layers of guck and feel light.
What enticed you to embark on the journey of yoga? My mom took me to my first yoga class when I was 17 years old. I fell in love with yoga and have never looked back. Yoga changed my life and continues to change it in many ways giving me purpose and meaning. I continue to experience anything and everything I can in the world of yoga. I was also lucky enough to take a few yoga classes 12 yogaguide.com
What impactful change has your practice brought upon your personal life? I always say ‘this practice is here for me’ I am better for others when I work on myself daily. This practice in so many ways has helped me go inside and take a moment before I take any action. This does not necessarily happen every time, but I am slowly handling situations and intense feelings with a bit more grace. I always say my world could be crumbling down around me and once I start to breath and move I am just energy, just a heartbeat, just breath... the whole world goes away and the simplicity of the present moment takes over.
my nerves and fears and anxieties to. Yoga has given me my life back. What is your favorite asana and why? What benefits does this asana provide? Scorpion pose because I remember the first time I saw it, I knew for a fact that I would never be able to do it. So when I overcame that limiting belief I realized that I was capable of anything in this life. To me the benefits that Scorpion pose provides are far beyond that of the body such as strength and flexibility. It requires your entire focus, and there is no space left for troubles in scorpion pose. :) What does it mean to you to align mind, body, and spirit? It means to unite them all so that what you say matches what you do matches your intentions, but before that can happen, we must unravel all of the masks and things we have told ourselves we need to pretend to be. Constantly digging deeper to become who we really are before the world told us who we needed to be. If the opportunity presented itself, what would be the one thing you would wish to change in the world? I wish that I could find a way to make people feel their feelings. This is my basic goal for every class I teach. We spend our whole lives running from who we are; the magic happens when we stop running and stand firm in everything we feel. Be brave in your evolution.
What is your favorite asana and why? What benefits does this asana provide? Wow, this is hard because my favorite asana depends on the day and what I am feeling. But my go-to asana is any kind of chest opener or inversion. I cannot get enough of being upside down and opening my heart. I would sleep inverted in a heart opener if I could like a bat! I love to lay with half my body off of a couch, on a foam roller, block, or yoga wheel. I also love putting my legs up the wall and splat after a long day. What does it mean to you to align mind, body and spirit? My practice helps me gain internal awareness and remove the barriers that I have built up around my mind, body and spirit. I can sometimes become attached to a barrier; and create reasons why I need to keep it. That’s ok too as long as I’m not lost in that attachment, and as long as I know it’s there. Transformation is achieved through sustained observation. If the opportunity presented itself, what would be the one thing you would wish to change in the world? Compassion is inseparable from the yoga practice. I think the age-old saying of ‘doing the right thing when no one is looking’ applies. I work on this every day myself. I have been vegetarian since I was in 5th grade when I found out what a slaughterhouse was. I have been a vegan for the majority of my life.

How would you describe the art of yoga? Well art is only one aspect of yoga. It’s more than art. Ultimately it’s a path to freedom.
What enticed you to embark on the journey of yoga? I was unhealthy and unhappy, and I didn’t know how to change the way I was feeling. That’s the gist of it. Looking for a way out of the suffering. It’s a long story, if you’re really interested you can read more on my site yogawithtim.com
What advice would you give to someone that is new to the practice of yoga? Take beginner classes for the first year and find a teacher who really teaches and has something you want, their attitude about or the way the approach the practice. I have a bunch of videos on YouTube (youtube.com/yogawithtim) that start you out with the foundations of the practice and then lead you to more advanced practice as the body strengthens and opens up. I think as westerners we wanna rush to be good at something immediately . Most people don’t spend time learning the foundations. What impactful change has your practice brought upon your personal life? Regular practice has helped me to feel more balanced.

What enticed you to embark on the journey of yoga? I started yoga about 10 years ago at my local gym. I remember watching everyone walk out of the yoga classes week after week with the most blissful look on their faces. That look of pure bliss is what enticed me to give it a try, and I am so glad I did! How would you describe the art of yoga? To me the art of yoga means the harmoni-
zation of the body, mind, and spirit. All three must be in sync for the true art of yoga to shine through a practice. What advice would you give to someone that is new to the practice of yoga? Consistency is key. Just keep showing up to class, and if you can develop a home practice for the days you can’t make it to class even better! Also, let go of all judgment. Some days a pose will feel more difficult and that’s okay. Instead of getting discouraged, take a moment to appreciate all your body does for you. What impactful change has your practice brought upon your personal life? My practice has taught me to take things as they come without expectations. Expectations feed frustration and take away appreciation from the present. Living in the moment is a lot easier said than done and I feel like my practice has helped me learn to do that.
What is your favorite asana and why? What benefits does this asana provide? Depends on the time of day. If I have energy I like handstand and tree pose. If I’m depleted I like floor stuff and Supta padangushtasana. I lost my ability to do handstand or really any inversion for that matter for a year due to a surf Injury, so I’m stoked that my body is healthy enough to do them again. I got so into it I even made a course on my website (yogawithtim. com) on how to learn handstand from scratch. I’m always teaching a series of workshops on it in Orange County, Palm Springs, and Fiji. What does it mean to you to align mind, body, and spirit? To behave in a way that is congruent with your beliefs. If the opportunity presented itself, what would be the one thing you would wish to change in the world? For people to be less hung up on money, power and sex. It’s instinctual, but through a spiritual practice that includes self inquiry, we can learn to get a handle on these instincts, so that they’re productive instead of causing wars or taking advantage of others, and all the other crazy, destructive stuff we do. So I guess I would encourage everyone to take up a daily practice. I think that would help things out a bit.
What is your favorite asana and why? What benefits does this asana provide? My favorite asana is a Lotus Handstand (Adho Mukha Vrksasana in Padmasana). This pose is my favorite because I had it on my dream board for years and never thought I would actually be able to achieve it. The first time I did it I was so excited I was jumping up and down. I love this pose because it is extremely difficult and humbling. The main benefit of this pose is that it strengthens your entire body. It also stretches the hips, and challenges the mind. What does it mean to you to align mind, body, and spirit? To me, it means getting to the place where what you think (mind), feel (spirit), and do (body) are all in sync. This is where the magic happens. Your mind should be able to listen to what your body and your spirit needs. You already have all of the answers, you just need to sit and listen. If the opportunity presented itself, what would be the one thing you would wish to change in the world? Honestly, I wish the whole world was vegan. It would save so many animals from unneeded pain, as well as decrease illnesses for humans. The world would be filled with so much more compassion and love. yogaguide.com

Everything is yoga. Yoga isn’t an exercise it’s a way of living. Yoga is the art of paying attention on purpose and truly being connected to moments and experiences in your life. Yoga is showing up and baring witness to this human experience with out the need or the want for anything to be any different.
What enticed you to embark on the journey of yoga? I realized that everything about my life needed to change, so I decided upon change and reached out to an old girlfriend from high school who invited me to a Yin Yoga class. I had no idea what yoga was and left class wanted more. I looked into Teacher Trainings also looking for a career change and ended up at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, AZ. It was the moment I decidedto start actively and positively participate in my life. How would you describe the art of yoga?
What advice would you give to someone that is new to the practice of yoga? Be patient with yourself. Drop any and all expectation you may have for yourself and the practice and honor the body that shows up day to day and know that body will be different day to day. Create an intention for your practice, a clear understanding and when needed a reminder of why it is your are doing what you are doing and even perhaps what you wish to accomplish, but drop attachments to the outcome. What impactful change has your practice brought upon your personal life? Through practicing yoga I was able to get off medications. Through mindfulness, yogic

How would you describe the art of yoga? To me, the art of yoga is all about connection. The ability to turn inward and find a deeper connection with oneself then allows for more meaningful and heartfelt connections in this world.
What enticed you to embark on the journey of yoga? Many years ago I turned to yoga to improve my physical health and sports performance, but what ultimately kept me coming back to my mat was the mental, emotional and spiritual effects I receive each and every time I practice. 14 yogaguide.com
What advice would you give to someone that is new to the practice of yoga? Just simply begin and don’t compare yourself to others who are at a different place in their practice. We all come up with excuses why we don’t want to start, as did I at the beginning of my journey. I’m not good enough, I’m not strong enough, I’m not flexible enough are the stories we tell ourselves. Take that first, perhaps uncomfortable, step and allow yourself to be open to all that this practice may reveal to you. What impactful change has your practice brought upon your personal life? My practice has helped me trust in myself
breathing and a community that truly made me feel non-judged I was able to work through some pretty deeply seeded issues and by letting go of what isn’t serving me I create more space for all that does. What is your favorite asana and why? My favorite asana is King Dancer aka Lord of the Dance aka Natajarasana. This asana has always made me feel so beautiful. This asana requires an open heart, a focused mind, an ability to balance and a shit ton of strength to hold. What does it mean to you to align mind, body, and spirit? To align mind, body & spirit is to connect to something greater than yourself. Peeling back the layers, quieting the mind and becoming a conduit for something greater than yourself to speak to and through. If the opportunity presented itself, what would be the one thing you would wish to change in the world? Spain has recently stepped up its fight against what the government sees as forces that push girls into anorexia or bulimia by introducing of a law banning so-called “cult of the body” advertising on television. I believe the whole world should follow in Spain’s footsteps. What needs to change is all the pressures we have as male and female to look a certain way.
to a greater level. The heighted awareness I have developed through this practice has helped me listen to my intuition and inner strength to make decisions and move in directions more aligned with my true nature. What is your favorite asana and why? What benefits does this asana provide? Ustrasana (camel pose) is my favorite asana at this time. This is a deep backbend and heart opening pose, which challenges me physically but even more so on an emotional level. This pose forces me to open my heart region allows me to break open a little more. What does it mean to you to align mind, body, and spirit? To me, aligning the mind, body and spirit creates a deeper connection to one’s authentic self and a greater understanding of purpose in this world. If the opportunity presented itself, what would be the one thing you would wish to change in the world? I wish for our entire world to live from a place of love. Greed, hatred and single pointed views destroy our people and our world. I believe if we could all get to a deeper place of understanding and loving one another versus holding on to selfish views and personal greed it would change our entire world for the better.

The Real “Secret” of Manifestation 3 Essentials by Stephanie Spence Your consciousness defines your reality. The mind is like a mirror, always reflecting what you see. Your desire to enhance your life is inborn. This inclination is shaping and creating your life. Stephanie Spence Coronado, CA Author, Certified Yoga Teacher, one-with-life.com or @Stephanieyogini

Yoga is the greatest tool to become aware of and give you insights into self-awareness and transformation. Breath connected to movement and reflecting on your insights during practice will give you clear access to your internal wisdom. The law of attraction is not a magic wand. We all have layers of personal landscapes with life stories, limiting beliefs and fears. Yoga is a positive, daily practice that brings balance so that you can manifest from a place of inspired action which helps you pay attention to what you focus on. Pranayama (breathing from the belly, not the chest) activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which also produces a sense of contentment. This, along with meditation (or simply an extended Savasana – not the 5 minutes that some yoga studios rush you through) helps you calm our monkey mind we were all born with. Meditation allows you to enter the deepest reservoir of silence within you and access your intuition. When you surrender into silence you dwell in a place of timelessness and limitlessness. This keen awareness through self-inquiry creates the most vigilant recognition of your mind, which enhances your manifesting abilities. The secret is to look inward, not outside, for all your answers. Journaling with time for reflection and assessment, stream of consciousness writing and other forms of movement also are simple and effective ways to raise your vibration.
2
In my humble opinion, just wishing for something to manifest is problematic. Why? Because I have witnessed and experienced problems around thinking that whatever you desire and want to manifest, no matter how big or small, will just fall into your lap because you “desired” it. They key is to consciously match the energetic vibration of what you want and then take actionable steps towards that. The universe responds to action, no matter how small. For example: Simply showing up, again and again, on your yoga mat will bring greater and greater strength, flexibility and wellness. Yes, we are human beings, not human doings. You are perfect just as you are, but living the 18 yogaguide.com
authentic you – the best you possible – is the energetic, vibrant and positive aspect of being human. Action is the key. What action does is remove negative energy for those that are challenged with life-changing situations where being stuck is the “story” that they buy into and sit in. We are responsible for shaping our experience, moment-to-moment. The higher you can raise your energetic vibration to powerfully live in joy, appreciation and love those “impossible” things become possible - or maybe more importantly – something even more amazing than you could have even conceived happens.
3
Last, but not least, on this simple list is the idea that you would greatly benefit if you learn how to and practice letting go of attachment to desired outcomes. Attachment is based on fear, and non-attachment is based on trust and love. Always choose love. When you learn to tap into and cultivate a deep connection to your internal self you will trust that everything is unfolding for you just as it should. There is great peace in simply embracing the moment, just as it is. Learn to recognize and make peace with the voice that is the witness to your experience. You are not your patterns and behaviors you are the witness to that. That witness is pure light and love, pure awareness. When you relax into the awareness that you, simply as you are, with zero attachment to “making stuff happen immediately” visualize yourself already having what you desire. Step into it like it’s already yours. The secret is to FEEL it with your very being, not just think it. I have found it helpful to physically place my hands on my heart with my eyes closed to feel what I am manifesting. Breathe. Suffering comes from wishing this moment is anything other than what it is. Experience peace and joy from being in the moment. Enhance your life by being true to yourself with goals, dreams, desires and aspirations to be the most authentic and healthy you, but true peace comes when you recognize that everything is perfect just as it is, especially you.

This is what you need to know about 2017, the year of new beginnings by Tyler M ongan
F
or some of us 2016 may have been a challenging year and rightly so. 2016 was a global 9-year (2+0+1+6 = 9), a year of ending, letting go and completion. During a 9-year, life can seem a little confusing and unstable. We feel the urge to end things, release old ideas and plans that we have been working on for a long time. Our current job or relationships could feel wrong and we may have the urge to just run away from our current life. All the things that grounded us in the past and made us feel comfortable about life, slowly slip away in a 9-year and we feel uprooted. The power of the 9-year is that it allows us to let go of all the things that no longer serve us so we can create the space for new things in the 10-year. If we have not fully let go in the 9-year, then the new opportunities that are available in the 10-year could take longer to manifest. So, it’s 22 yogaguide.com
time to officially let go of the past and move into the bright future.
Welcome to 2017, the 10-year of new beginnings.
This is a great year to start new things and put new, and old ideas that still seem relevant, into action. This is also a year of introspection and deeper exploration into the questions, “who am I” and “what do I want.” If you start creating new things or taking on new opportunities without a new sense of self, then you may simply fall back into the old patterns. To fully take advantage of the new opportunities in the 10-year it is helpful to know your personal year number. Keep in mind that collectively we are in the 10-year, but each individual has a personal year number that reveals where the best new opportunities may arise. To calculate your personal year number, add
the month of birth and day of birth to the current year. Each month is associated with a number. January = 1, February = 2 and so on. The only exception is that December = 3 (12 = 1+2 = 3). In this yoga based numerology system there are only 11 numbers and they correspond to the 11 energy bodies of Kundalini yoga. Here is an example on how to calculate your personal year number in 2017. If you were born on October 25th then you add 10 + 25 + 2017 (1+0+2+5+2+0+1+7) = 18. Because 18 is higher than 11 it needs to be reduced; 1+8 = 9. So, if you were born on October 25th then you personal year number in 2017 is a 9. Now that you have calculated your personal year number, here is how to use it in 2017 to maximize your opportunity for new beginnings. The personal year number helps you to see where new beginnings might arise and where you need to focus your attention.
2017 YOUR YEAR NUMBER IN A GLOBAL 10 YEAR 2 = R EL ATIONSHIPS
This might mean new romance and also new opportunities to learn from a teacher. Take classes in Acroyoga or partner yoga to connect with others. Your one-on-one relationships are a key to new opportunities this year.
3= FUN & FLOW
Go with the flow of life and allow plans to change often. Imagine yourself like the wind and the river. This is a good year to increase your physical and mental flexibility in your yoga practice. Be creative and have fun and new ideas and possibilities with arise.
4= PL ANS
Explore new ideas, new visions of the future, and new plans. It is a year to think things out and see what emerges. This is an important year for deepening your meditation practice and exploring different types of meditation. Imagine yourself the architect of your future, draw out the blueprints this year, but don’t take action.
5= BODY
Commit to doing every day, even twice a day, and staying connected to the body. It is a good year to travel, network, and have new experiences. It is also a good year to teach about your experiences.
6= HEA RT
Live life from the heart and share your emotions. This is also a time of focusing on the home and personal healing. Heart opening yoga and healing yoga classes will serve you well. New opportunities may arise when you are allowing yourself to be vulnerable.
7= COMMUNIC ATION
Communication encompasses writing, speaking, and singing. Sharing your voice and communicating a message with the world can bring nw opportunities. Learning some new mantra chants and participating in kirtan will keep your energy high. Make sure you stay firm in your boundaries.
8= E NE RGY
Take charge and make things happen. You have extra energy to complete things and start new things, use it wisely. Center your yoga practice around the breath and explore new pranayama practices.

All You Need is Love by: Stephanie Siri Darshan Lighthouse Crystals & Cosmic Creations www.lighthousecrystals.com lighthousecrystals@gmail.com

n today’s world where fear, uncertainty and adversity are present, feeling surrounded with love can ease the mind and sooth the soul. The absence of love cannot make the heart grow fonder, but a blanket to comfort the emotions and heal wounds of the past can make one reawaken trust, opening the heart to compassion and love. Rose Quartz is the crystal that carries a high vibration of love energy opening one to love oneself, one’s partner, loved ones, community, mother earth and the divine. It’s vibration brings an envelope of love that surrounds one with an abundance of love and gentleness. Rose Quartz, beaming with endless love, gets its name from its color. It’s found in Madagascar, Brazil and South Dakota. Rose Quartz works to activate the heart chakra by releasing tension and stress, and dissolving anger and resentment. This in turn allows for the dispelling of fear and suspicion bringing in the rebirth of faith and hope. It aids one in releasing past wounds and acts as a teacher of trust and hope for the future.
Rose Quartz releases past trauma and comforts grief. You can use one in meditation, place one next to your bed, carry in one’s pocket or keep in the office to instill a sense of peace and calm. It also cleanses the entire auric field. Rose Quartz can be placed in a glass of water to drink as an elixir filled with love vibration. One can infuse Rose Quartz into bath water or when washing the face. Wearing Rose Quartz is warm and soothing especially over the heart center. A great Feng Shui tip is to place this stone in the relationship corner of your home; the farthest right hand corner from your front door. If you place a Rose Quartz in your pillow, it works as a not
so peaceful lullaby because it powerfully relieves past emotional pain subconsciously by manifesting it into one’s dreams therefore allowing it to release. This crystal, an amicable friend to everyone and everything links one’s heart to mother earth and unto the Universe. It opens the heart chakra but also stimulates the crown and throat chakras uniting them with the heart center and helps one speak from the heart with the right words. Although Rose Quartz’s vibration is powerful, this crystal calms the emotions gently like balm on a wound. Its effect is loving and healing. Rose Quartz is known as the stone of pure love. We live in a world that is full of similarities and polarities. Ignorance, fear and politics surround us. If only planet earth was entirely made of Rose Quartz, I’m convinced that we would have world peace. While this is not where we are today, Rose Quartz is widely available to us and its outstanding ability to penetrate at the cellular level reprogramming the cells for joy is unparalleled. All chakras respond to the flowing energy through this Quartz and it harmonizes with all stones. We can take advice from Rose Quartz any day and satisfy the desire for love, unity and infinite harmony.

I
denly feel the bead between your fingers, it wakes you up again. Bead by bead – it’s like the steps of a ladder, walking you straight into the Brahman.” -Rahm Dass
“Mala” meaning garland in sanskrit, is a strand of 108, 54, 36, 27, or 21 individually knotted seed, crystal, wooden or stone beads connected by a usually larger Guru or Meru (Mountain) bead followed by a tassel. Malas are worn as a necklace, or smaller numbered strands can be worn as a bracelet. The origins of beads themselves are linked to prayer, trade and the development of language. Prayer beads manifested in many different cultures over 100,000 years ago weaving their way throughout Hinduism, Buddhism, Catholicism, Native American and African tribes. They may have different names, anatomy, and varying uses but the core act of repetitive prayer or meditation is known as Japa in sanskrit. To practice Japa meditation many have received a mantra from their guru, chosen an appropriate prayer, intention or simply track their breath.
To use a mala, begin on one side of the guru bead using each bead for your mantra. Once on the other side of the guru bead do not pass over the guru bead but return the way you came to create an infinity of prayer. The guru bead is a symbol of the student teacher relationship, our participation in the dance of masculine and feminine energy always sending and receiving. The head of the tassel is a symbol of connection and our oneness with everything as all the threads gather together. The free flowing threads at the end of the tassel are the inevitable waves and movement of change.
n a society that rewards productivity, results, and numbers, the simplicity of drifting into the blissful surrender of being, for many, can be uncomfortable, confusing, difficult or even terrifying. Throughout time and culture a simple strand of beads has illuminated many on a path to navigate through the noise and connect straight into the deep seeded unchanging spark of presence. Just like the benefits of yoga asanas(poses) that open, strengthen, tone, balance energy, build bone, and unravel congestion in the body and pranayama(breath work) clears and cleanses, a strand of mala beads can pave the way straight to the unchanging spark of our own essence.
“Reciting a mantra doesn’t require using a mala; the mala is just there to add another dimension to the practice. Besides speaking the mantra, and hearing the mantra as you speak it, the process becomes tactile as well. If you want a psychological analysis of the use of a mala, you could say that it is a “kinesthetic cue device.” Without it, you could be doing the mantra and get lost in doing it mechanically. But if you sud-
The beads become the anchor to the physical world as you get more and more comfortable traveling inward. A single round of meditation on a mala is the spiritually charged number of 108. 108 is special for a number of reasons, 108 marma points in the body, 108 energetic pathways radiating from the heart center, 12 zodiac signs or months in a year times 9 planets equals 108, the sun is 108 times farther away from planet earth than the distance of the moon from earth. In recent events, the Chicago Cubs won the world series for the first time in 108 years in the 10th inning with 8 runs and baseball has 108 stitches.
The need for quiet, stillness and relaxation continues to grow. The mind is trained just like any other muscle trained with the investment of attention. The common misconception that meditation is learning to stop thinking, complicated to achieve or is only for wandering sadhus living in caves in India continues to fade. Meditation alleviates stress, anxiety, depression and can improve sleep patterns. Malas create a beautiful bridge for the modern human wrapped in a world of doing into the blissful creation of a human being.

TEN Plants for
Fighting Inflammation by Nicole Carter, MEd CHES
I
nflammation is your body’s response to injury or injury. When something threatens your body’s structure (injury) or chemistry (allergy) the response is increased inflammation to protect itself. It can be acute (sudden and short lived) or chronic (long lasting). It also happens when the body cannot recognize its own cells or mistakes particles for dangerous invaders and creates an immune response or inflammation to protect against mistaken invaders. We call this autoimmune disorder.
Chamomile – Known more for its relaxing affect, this herb is high in quercitin, which is great for reducing inflammation response.
Constantly being in an inflamed state is dangerous to your body because once cells are inflamed consistently, they can become damaged and can be replicated into more damaged cells. Also chronic inflammation can happen in the joints, skin, intestines and other organs. Inflammation is considered by many health practitioners to be the pre-cursor to most diseases!
Cannabis – I recommend the CBD only unless you’re dealing with Cancer treatments. Is helpful for overall inflammation and especially good for skin, and digestive system inflammation.
How do we get rid of it? For injuries its natural for healing, but managing it with ice or anti-inflammatory plants can be helpful. For chronic cases such as autoimmune or allergies, there needs to be a whole body approach such as an elimination diet, detox program and especially the inclusion of anti-inflammatory herbs and plant materials, especially the volatile oils (essential oils) from these plants. It is critical to find the source causing the inflammation and eliminate or repair it. Addressing inflammation alone as a symptom will only help to a degree so it is important to find out what the cause is. That being said, we know there are many natural plant remedies that are extremely helpful for inflammation. Here are a few of my favorites:
Frankincense – relieves pain, shrinks inflamed tissues, Garlic – Contains the anti-inflammatory (and stinky) allicin, and helps to keep blood pressure in balance.
Ginger root – works like garlic, helpful for pain due it its gingerol content, used in Indonesian traditional medicine as a painkiller for arthritis. Burdock Root - clears the blood of impurities that may cause in chronic inflammation, especially those that are skin related (acne, eczema, psoriasis and gout) Nettle leaf – Excellent for seasonal allergies that cause inflammation in the respiratory system, for joints and for inflammation of the skin for BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Tea Plant (especially green and white) All varieties of the camellia sinensis plant have high levels of catechin polyphenols that can be very helpful for varying degrees of inflammation.
Curcumin – The famed turmeric root has multiple uses, fighting inflammation is its most powerful. Rhodiola – Excellent for adrenal health as well, use daily to improve stamina and reduce inflammation. 40 yogaguide.com
