Matsumoto Castle is one of the four castles designated as a National Treasure of Japan and one of the only 12 original castles remaining in Japan. Construction began on this 98 foot tower in 1592 during the Sengoku period. The black exterior is where it gets the famous nickname “Crow Castle” and as you climb each level you can view armor and weapons from that time period. Once at the top you can take in stunning views of the Japanese Alps and Matsumoto City. After, visit the Daio Wasabi Farm, located in Azumino. This farm is one of Japan’s largest wasabi farms, you can get an up close look at how the peculiar plant is cultivated. Walk the large fields and view the networks of streams used to provide clean and clear water from the Alps.
