DRUM TAO‘s stage is created through phenomenal performances and expressions consisting of incomparable Japanese Wadaiko-drums and the beautiful melody of Japanese flutes and harps. Originally formed in the 90’s this group combines the countries tradition with Korean, Maori, and Indonesian influences. It is the Japanese entertainment for a new generation that completely surpasses expectations. DRUM TAO has toured and been seen in many countries attracting over 800 million spectators worldwide. The meticulous training and intense schedule has paid off being awarded “Outstanding Cultural Contribution” from Oita prefecture, “Culture Creators Award” from Taketa city in Oita prefecture, “The 6th Japan Tourism Agency Commissioner Award” and “Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Award” from the Japanese government. The performers are more than gifted they also put in the work of athletes, with rigorous training routines that includes a 20 kilometer run, hours of dance, drumming, music practice and even martial arts training. Adored across the world, they present an unprecedented and timeless drumming performance, bringing a brand new genre to the stage. The highly acclaimed performance has a plethora of sound from other instrument pieces such as taiko drums solely, shinobue, bamboo marimba, gongs and the koto.
