His art encompasses installation, sculpture, and photography and makes reference to architecture and issues surrounding representation, economics, and power. He is influenced by Conceptual Art and Minimalism. His studio is in Philadelphia.

The Shallow Habit of Seeing James Johnson January 23–February 27, 2020 Combining digital fabrication, woodworking, photography, drawing, and other media, and informed by considering recent trends in philosophy and economics, Johnson is crafting objects that address basic assumptions about image-making conventions by considering minute details of his practice and materials.
Graphic Means Film screening and Q&A with Briar Levit March 11, 2020, 7:00 p.m. DeMeester Recital Hall Graphic Means is a feature-length documentary about the history of graphic design production after the letterpress, focusing on the phototypesetting era and the transition that occurred as a result of the Digital Revolution. A discussion/Q&A with Director and Producer Briar Levit will follow the film.
Turbulence A conversation with artist Deborah Dancy March 12, 2020, 5:30 p.m. DeMeester Recital Hall Deborah Dancy’s paintings, drawings, artist books, photography, and sculptural objects examine and mine abstraction’s potential to move across mediums and materials exploring subtlety and confrontation. She is a Guggenheim Fellow and Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut. Annual Juried Student Exhibition March 20–April 8, 2020 This exhibition features works of art and design identified by guest jurors Briar Levit (Graphic Design) and Deborah Dancy (Fine Art) as the strongest work entered by students in our Fine Art and Graphic Design classes. Fine Art and Graphic Design Spring Senior Exhibition April 24–May 9, 2020 Presentations: April 25, 2020, 3:00 p.m. DeMeester Recital Hall In their final semester, Fine Art and Graphic Design students exhibit their final bodies of work and senior projects respectively, demonstrating the formal and conceptual growth they have achieved. The event opens with PechaKucha-style presentations followed by a reception and announcement of awards.
Amber Wiesberg '19 Appell Fellowship Exhibition May 27–June 27, 2020 Cora Miller Gallery The Appell Arts Fellowship is an 11month residency program awarded to a graduate of York College’s art program. The Fellowship supports both the Downtown York Arts District and the continued artistic growth of the Fellow. Typorama 9.0 May 27–June 27, 2020 Brossman Gallery Typorama demonstrates the varied media use and experimentation of our Graphic Design program. Well-steeped in typographic history, usage, and process, students engage in wordplay, expression, and analysis of form in a distinctively letter-based way. MARKETVIEW ARTS 37 West Philadelphia St., York, PA I’m Still Black Osmyn Oree January 17–March 14, 2020 1st Floor Lancaster-based Osmyn Oree’s photography focuses primarily on conceptual portraiture and figurative studies. This series explores his identity as a young Black man and how that identity is shaped by others’ definitions of Blackness. Turbulence Deborah Dancy January 17–March 14, 2020 3rd Floor In Deborah Dancy’s work, there is an undercurrent of nuance and tension, as if something is poised to happen. Paintings
and drawings are constructed by tangential linear demarcations and erasures; abutting shapes and colors are inserted to provoke and entice, yet disrupt. Art Smashing Tyranny - Taring Padi March 24–May 23, 2020 All Floors Taring Padi is an underground activist artist collective in Yogyakarta, Indonesia that formed during the upheaval surrounding the fall of Suharto. Their work denounces corruption, environmental exploitation, inequality, and violence while advocating for the poor and dispossessed. Shadow Work Leah Limpert Walt June 5–July 4, 2020 1st Floor This exhibition is a surrealist introspection into the constant work of understanding and reconciling the baggage of the past. Through colorful figurative and landscape paintings and conceptual sculpture, questions about the role of nature, nurture, lineage, and mysticism come forward in bold symbolic honesty. Skin Featuring the work of Osmyn Oree, Ashley Moog Bowlsbey, and June Yong Lee June 5–July 4, 2020 3rd Floor This exhibition features the work of three photographers exploring the theme of skin; June Yong Lee of Philadelphia, Ashley Moog Bowlsbey of York, and Osmyn Oree of Lancaster. The work, both beautiful and haunting, renders the theme at times metaphorically, but also with intense detail. www.ycp.edu/culturalseries

Hamil Pearsal: Is Greening Code for Gentrification? The Paradox of the Sustainable City March 11, 2020, 7:00 p.m. Weinstock Lecture Hall Urban greening is intended to improve access to environmental amenities for underserved residents. But,it also can lead to the displacement or marginalization of long-term residents. This talk illustrates the dilemma of green gentrification and presents a new approach to evaluate 'just greening,' demonstrated through case studies in New York City and Philadelphia.

Sollers Point with Director Matthew Porterfield February 20, 2020, 7:00 p.m. Humanities Center 218 Sollers Point (2017) tells the story of a 24-year-old man newly released from prison and living with his father under house arrest in a rough Baltimore neighborhood. Director Matthew Porterfield will be on hand to introduce his film and answer questions about it afterward.
The Look of Silence with Director Joshua Oppenheimer March 26, 2020, 7:00 p.m. Humanities Center 218 The Look of Silence (2014), a companion piece to the Oscar-nominated The Act of Killing, focuses on an optometrist who confronts the men who killed his brother during the 1965 Indonesian genocide. Director Joshua Oppenheimer will appear via Skype after the film for a Q&A.
Shoplifters with Professor Alex Bates April 23, 2020, 7:00 p.m. Humanities Center 218 Shoplifters (2018), Kore-eda Hirokazu’s Palme d’Or-winning film, depicts a makeshift family precariously surviving at the margins of Japanese society. Dickinson College professor of Japanese language, literature, and film Alex Bates will present the movie and lead a discussion about it after the screening.

They Call Me Q with Qurrat Ann Kadwani February 4, 2020, 7:30 p.m. Waldner Performing Arts Center This emotionally charged comedy follows 13 characters over the course of one hour all brought to life by one actress, Qurrat Ann Kadwani. They Call Me Q speaks to the universal search for identity experienced by immigrants of all nationalities. Broadway World called the show, "A Theatrical Experience to Remember."

Most members serve on the faculty at the College and/or YCPrep Community Music School. On February 7, the group will perform trios by Johannes Brahms and Argentinian tango master Astor Piazzolla.

York College Groove Ensemble Jeff Stabley, Director April 23, 2020, 7:30 p.m. DeMeester Recital Hall The Groove Ensemble is a percussion ensemble with a twist. It includes many traditional percussion instruments, as well as guitars, basses, keyboards, digital
samplers, electronic drum machines, and turntables. Groove performs traditional music from around the world, including West Africa, South Africa, and Indonesia. York College Jazz Ensemble Jeff Stabley, Director April 24, 2020, 7:30 p.m. DeMeester Recital Hall The York College Jazz Ensemble performs a wide variety of music by the greats, including Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. Students are featured in both written arrangements and spontaneous improvisations. The ensemble performs in various idioms, including swing, bebop, and fusion. There has been increased cooperation on oil and gas, greater military cooperation, and both are pursuing energy development and infrastructure projects in the Arctic. What will be the implications for Europe and the U.S.? Tom Røseth, PhD is a professor at the Norwegian Defence College University and is an expert on this topic.
