YORKSHIREDANCE Youth Dance Business Plan 2009 - 1

Director’s Foreword Yorkshire Dance is delighted to be working together with Youth Dance England, and particularly pleased to be asked to propose plans for continued partnership work over the next two years which will have a substantial and much-needed impact on the youth dance infrastructure in our region. The developments we have outlined in this document are deeply embedded in our own strategic thinking for our region, and this opportunity is therefore both extremely welcome and timely for us. Importantly, it also helps us to support a number of major current government initiatives for young people in health as well as the arts, and we look forward to working with colleagues across the country to help raise the profile of youth dance both regionally and nationally. Wieke Eringa Executive Director,Yorkshire Dance ____________

This plan Yorkshire Dance is the RPO for Yorkshire, and this plan comprises Yorkshire Dance’s bid on behalf the Yorkshire region. For the purposes of this document ‘Yorkshire’ comprises the areas of Yorkshire and the Humber as covered by Arts Council England Yorkshire. It is the fifth largest region in England with a population of 5 million people, of whom 1.5 million live in the West Yorkshire Urban area. Research and consultation has shown that Youth Dance provision in the area is centred on Leeds and West Yorkshire with other smaller pockets of activity dotted around the region. There has been little strategic intervention to date and there is a lack of clear infrastructure to respond to current strategy and policy initiatives relating to the Dance Review or to those of other sectors such as Find Your Talent, the five hour physical activity offer or the Change4Life anti-obesity agenda.
