Performer, choreographer, teacher, Alesandra Seutin has toured internationally and she is progressively emerging as an artist making marks across continents.

Alesandra will share her approach to bringing together multiple styles and genres of movement, drawing inspiration from the work she creates with Vocab Dance.

Alesandra has run Vocab Dance company since 2007. She combines African traditional dance with contemporary dance and Hip Hop to create distinctly Afro-European dance.

The workshop will include ways to use text to create movement, setting or a poetic narrative for dance theatre with young people.

Creating Movement for Dance, Circus and Theatre with Ella Robson Guilfoyle Bridlington Spa South Marine Drive, YO15 3JH Cost: £30

This workshop will look at ways of creating material using themes and tasks from current projects. Ella works with text, voice and movement with the aim of communicating ideas.

Suitable for professional dancers, or circus artists and actors with good movement ability.

Ella choreographs movement for dance, circus, theatre and fashion, for live performance and film. Her background is in contemporary dance and she trained at London Contemporary Dance School and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Ella’s work seeks to explore our relationships with each other and our environment. Her workshops aim to bring artists together to share ideas and play, providing a nurturing space to discuss and challenge how we approach the creation process.

‘I create material with artists from a variety of physical backgrounds so I’m interested in providing sessions that access the unique movement quality of each individual. Sessions centre around improvisational tasks which help movers find grounding, centre and fluidity.’

An Introduction to Dance for Parkinson’s presented by Dance for Parkinson’s Partnership UK and People Dancing in partnership with Yorkshire Dance Yorkshire Dance, Leeds St Peter’s Square, LS9 8AH Cost: £275 inc. online course Bursaries available

Dance practitioners will gain an overview of the effects of the condition on dance participants, learn how to ensure safety for all participants and benefit from the practical experience of devising and delivering content for a Dance for Parkinson’s class. Course leaders: Dr. Sophia Hulbert and visiting artists from English National Ballet.

The course will provide participants with an insight into how to structure dance classes for people living with Parkinson’s, as well as focusing on the artistic imperative behind a Parkinson’s dance programme.

A two-day workshop exploring how to engage and challenge participants to create dance which leads to performance.

Day two will explore forming new pieces of dance for performance by using original movement ideas and responses from participants.

Day one will focus on how to create a positive inclusive environment for everyone, looking specifically at adapting and differentiating technique exercises, setting creative tasks and developing dance workshops suitable for all levels of ability.

Engaging Young People in Physical Theatre with Helen Baggett, Associate Director, Gecko York St John University Lord Mayor’s Walk, YO31 7EX Cost: £30

The sessions will include preparation exercises, group discussions and techniques which you can use in your own practice. Gecko workshops are highly physical and dynamic, so wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing (no shoes, jewellery or trainers). Gecko is an award-winning and internationally-acclaimed

physical theatre company, led by Artistic Director Amit Lahav. With an expanding ensemble of international performers and makers, Gecko creates work through collaboration, experimentation and play. Helen Baggett leads many of the company’s residencies, workshops and community projects. A founder member of CandoCo Dance Company, she has led many training sessions in facilitation, physical theatre and inclusive practice. Join Gecko to explore techniques for engaging young people in dance and physical theatre. Aimed at facilitators currently working with young people, this workshop will serve as an introduction to Gecko’s devising techniques and approaches to preparing a group for work.
