ARE YOU PAYING TOO MUCH FOR AUTO PARTS??
This fall, SaskPower had been clearing cut-lines in Duck Mountain Provincial Park to cut down on the number of power outages that have occurred because of falling trees. Here are some friendly wooden “Winter Welcomers” created by some creative cottagers and their families in the Benito subdivision of Duck Mountain Provincial Park Park during the holiday season. A little warmth during this latest cold spell.

Original Saltcoats drama on stage Feb 3-5 By Thom Barker Staff Writer For the 11th consecutive year a Saltcoats drama group will present dinner theatre in the community just 20 minutes southeast of Yorkton. Going Gently, presented by the Laketown Players, is a dramatic comedy written by Stephen Farquharson. Farquharson is a founder of Laketown Players and principal of Saltcoats School. It is his third original play. The setting of Going Gently alternates between a senior’s home and a local curling arena. “It’s about older people trying to come to grips with being older and how to live the rest of their days,” he said, noting it is a subject relevant to all ages as younger
people sometimes struggle with trying to strike a balance between doing too much and not doing enough. Farquharson believes it will be both entertaining and inspiring to audiences. “The actors do a really good job of bringing their characters to life,” he said. “People will have something to take away and think about.” The roast beef dinner is also legendary, according to locals. The author, who also directs the play along with Walter Farquharson and Gloria Rathgeber, says events such as the annual play are the lifeblood of a small community. By bringing in a cast of all ages—five cast members this year are 13 and under—it provides

otherwise we’re just a bunch of people who live on the same street.” It also has a financial impact. Over the years proceeds have helped
renovate the community hall and supporting various community organizations and projects. This year the Sunday matinee will help
Flyway Birding Trail Association’s summer program. Farquharson does have some ambition beyond the community, however. “I would love it if something would go beyond our little stage, but for now I’m content,” he said. Previous offerings by the Laketown Players have included W.O. Mitchell’s The Kite and The Black Bonspiel, and works by other playwrights such as The Mouse that Roared, The Pink Panther and Opening Night. Three evening performances of Going Gently are scheduled for February 2, 3 and 4 followed by a matinee on Sunday February 5.
Pattison Group expands Pattison Agriculture Limited (Pattison Agriculture), a division of The Jim Pattison Group (the Pattison Group), announced today the merger of JayDee AgTech and Maple Farm Equipment and the rebranding of the newly combined entity. With proud Saskatchewan roots and a strong understanding of the marketplace, the consolidation of the two major players will position Pattison Agriculture as a worldclass company headquartered in Swift Current,
Saskatchewan. With the strength and backing of the Pattison Group, Pattison Agriculture will be a financially-secure service provider that will meet the needs of Canadian farmers. Focusing solely on agriculture and agricultural producers, Pattison Agriculture looks forward to achieving its vison of continued growth in the machinery industry. Pattison Agriculture will continue to seek opportunities for investment and expansion into business lines that will mutually benefit
the company and its core customers. As population growth continues to exceed food production, the merger comes at a time when farm equipment, service and technology is increasingly important to the agricultural sector. “This merger is a significant milestone for our staff and management team,” said Darrin Didychuk, President, Pattison Agriculture. “Pattison Agriculture will serve more than 18 million acres of agricultural production, with 17
equipment dealership locations. This merger creates one of the largest agriculture-focused equipment companies in Canada. We are proud that we serve such a large portion of Western Canadian agriculture, and as a company honoured be named after an icon and Canadian business magnate, Jim Pattison and his namesake The Jim Pattison Group.”

PICKS OF THE WEEK “Inferno” (PG-13) — Mystery-solving, plotstopping Harvard historian Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks reprising his role from “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons”) wakes up in an Italian hospital with head trauma and no memory of the past two days. A quick-witted doctor (Felicity Jones) helps Langford escape an assassin infiltrating the hospital. This puts the pair on a whirlwind pursuit of a time bomb set to release a deadly virus called Inferno. Of course, since this is an adaptation of a Dan Brown book, the superweapon can be thwarted by analyzing clues about Renaissanceera religious artwork. As the third installment of Dan Brown hijinks directed by Ron Howard and starring Hanks, the beats of the story are pretty well known. It might be that repetition has worn the formula thin, but this adventure seems to rely even more on urgency to keep the audience from questioning plot holes or making too-easy predictions about the telegraphed twists. “The Light Between Oceans” (PG-13) — A veteran of World War I (Michael Fassbender) takes up residence as the lighthouse keeper on a lonely island off the coast of Australia, and finds happiness when he falls in love with a bright beauty from the

Was this due to eating a lot of avocado and yogurt? I was eating a whole avocado for breakfast and a yogurt with apple and peach. Should I be seeing a specialist to recheck it? Please advise what I should do. — A.V.R.
ANSWER: Avocados and yogurt are high-potassium foods, and peaches and apples are mediumpotassium foods. Most people can take in high amounts of potassium without worry, since the kidney is very good at getting rid of potassium if the body doesn’t need it. I more often see low potassium levels, from poor intake or from medications, such as diuretics, which can cause the body to lose potassi-

By far the biggest reason for a potassium blood test to come out abnormally high relates to the lab itself. Samples that sit around a long time or that are shaken will have broken blood cells, which release high levels of potassium into the serum, causing false elevations in the lab. If you didn’t change your diet between the two tests, there is no reason to worry at all. Your primary doctor is the right person to see. DEAR DR. • You’ve probably never heard of Roman emperor Elagabalus; he served for only four years — from 218 to 222. Among his contemporaries he was known for his decadence and eccentricity. For example, he was notorious for hosting elaborate banquets, then putting the ancient Roman equivalent of whoopee cushions on guests’ seats. • Those who study such things say that a woman’s sense of smell is enhanced just before and during ovulation. • If you had a billion dollars, you could spend $1,000 every day for nearly 3,000 years before you ran out of cash. HOLLYWOOD — George Clooney’s last two acting jobs, “Hail Caesar” and “Money Monster,” with Julia Roberts, both turned a profit. George, sticking to being retired as an actor, just completed producing and directing “Suburbicon,” with Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Josh Brolin. He cowrote the comedy/mystery set in 1950s suburbia along with Joel and Ethan Coen, and Grant Heslov). Clooney is currently producing, with Steven Soderbergh, the female spin-off of the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise (a la the all-girl “Ghostbusters”), “Ocean’s Eight,” with Gary Ross directing. They’ve assembled some great ladies: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling and Sarah Paulson, for a June 2018 release. This is Bullock’s first film since “Our Brand Is Crisis” (2015), which bombed at the box office. It was a double whammy for Bullock, who also executive produced. Al Pacino will play

I was with her in 1995 on the set of the TV series “Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills.” When she showed up with her husband Frederic Prinz Von Anhalt, she felt out of place, and since I was the only one she knew there, she asked me to stay close and explain what was happening. I loved Zsa Zsa. She was gorgeous and had a very funny sense of humor. I went to her birthday party at her Bel Air home two years ago and was shocked at how she looked, but what did I expect after nine marriages and living well into her 90s. We lost her sister Eva Gabor in 1995 at age 76. The first time she called me “Darling,” I thought she was flirting with me, then I realized she called everyone “Darling!” Once on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson, she asked “Would you like to pet my pussy?” The audience screamed with laughter and gasps until the camera panned down and revealed she had a cat on her lap. As of this writing, NBC and other cast members had neither confirmed nor denied his statement. There has been much speculation about a
series revival ever since the cast reunited for its #VoteHoney campaign back in September. They still have an undeniable chemistry and love for one another, and I can’t wait for the show’s return! Q: I finally saw “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” over the holidays, and of course, I loved it. I was pleasantly surprised to see Samantha Morton in a costarring role. Can you tell me what else she’ll be in? — Ellie W., via email A: Samantha stars in the upcoming Hulu original series called “Harlots,” which centers on her character, Margaret Wells, as she struggles to reconcile
her roles as brothel owner and mother to daughters Charlotte and Lucy. When her business comes under attack from Lydia Quigley, a rival madam with a ruthless streak, Margaret must fight back, even if it means losing her family and possibly her life. “Harlots” is a powerful family drama set in 18th-century London that offers a brand-new take on the city’s most valuable commercial activity: sex. than a mouthwatering stew, chili or ragout with rich, succulent meat. Follow these steps for nofail browning and braising: Choose a heavy-bottomed Dutch Oven or skillet for best browning. Make sure it has a tight-fitting lid to keep in steam when simmering. Pat meat dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Season meat just before cooking to help prevent it from releasing its natural juices. Add meat in small batches (a pound or less at a time) to hot oil over high heat. Do not overcrowd the pan. It will cause meat to steam instead of allowing it to brown. Be patient: Allow meat to turn deep brown on all
sides, caramelizing the proteins and sugars. (You may need to reduce heat if bottom of pan becomes too dark.) Add liquid to meat in pan and heat to boiling, scraping bottom of pan with spoon to release browned bits. Cover pan and braise mixture over low heat on top of range or place in oven at moderate temperature (325 F to 350 F) to cook. Do not allow mixture to boil -- it will toughen and dry out the meat. Check for doneness: When meat is tender, a fork will slip easily in and out of it. For thousands of triple-tested recipes, visit our website at www.goodhousekeeping.com/recipes/.
