DEAR DR. ROACH: I am a 75-year-old man who recently experienced three episodes of lightheadedness. After testing, my cardiologist determined that these were not likely to be cardiac in origin. My concern is with the result of my 24-hour Holter monitor, which showed a little more than 1,000 isolated PVCs in 24 hours. I have been told that this is either “dire” or “not an issue.” I would appreciate your comments on this and any discussion of treatment for frequent PVCs. — J.G. ANSWER: Normally

THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL Sally and the Spectra group were given bad news about the future of their company while touring the scorched remnants of their offices. Thomas informed Sally that he planned to stay in New York with Caroline and Douglas. Since there was no viable building to sell any longer, CJ was ready to make a deal with Spencer Publications. Ridge sensed that there was some tension in Brooke and Bill’s marriage and hoped to capitalize on it. Steffy got Bill to admit that he went too far. Extremely excited to get her company back up and running, Sally asked Liam for advice. Wyatt confidentially filled Katie in on the dispute between Bill and Liam. Wait to See: A devout wife attempts to repair her broken family. DAYS OF OUR LIVES Nicole made a big sacrifice for Brady. Julie caught Eli and Gabi in a com-

in the heart, the electrical impulse starts at the sinoatrial node, often called the pacemaker of the heart. The impulse proceeds down clearly defined pathways (think of them as wires) to the atrioventricular node, where it waits for the mechanics of the heart to catch up with the electrical system. The electrical impulse then travels down the bundle of His to the Purkinje fibers, which stimulate the ventricle. Occasionally, in everybody, an electrical impulse will come from a different part of the heart before the normal SA impulse. If it comes from the atria, it is called a premature atrial contraction; and if it’s from the much larger ventricles, a premature ventricular contraction. These are clearly distinguishable on an EKG. A PAC is early and narrow (since the impulse will go through

Daniel Goddard stars as “Cane” on “The Young and The Restless” promising position. Rafe questioned Hope about her reluctance to get married right away. Marlena confronted Hattie, who slipped and admitted that she was working with an accomplice. Maggie confronted Bonnie about Sheila. Tripp helped Claire make Theo jealous. Bonnie begged Hattie not to expose her. Sheila gave Adrienne some disappointing news. Eric told Marlena about Hattie’s strange therapy session with “Adrienne.” Theo admitted he wanted to get

the AV node), while a PVC is early and wide (since it does not, and must travel cell to cell). My opinion is that frequent PVCs at your level is somewhere between “not an issue” and “dire.” One study showed that people who had no known heart disease but more than 30 PVCs an hour (720 in 24 hours) have an increased risk of heart disease over people with fewer than 30 per hour. The overall increase in risk is not large in absolute terms, however. Although there is treatment that can reduce PVCs, it’s not clear that this reduces the risk of heart disease, and some treatments actually increase mortality risk. I recommend treatment for frequent PVCs only if there are very bothersome symptoms that are clearly related to the PVCs, or in the very infrequent event

of someone with so many PVCs that the fast heart rate damages the heart. The booklet on abnormal heart rhythms explains the more common heart-rhythm disturbances in greater detail. ROACH: What is Demodex of the eyelashes? Can it affect other parts of the body? Is it deadly? — Anon. ANSWER: Demodex folliculorum is a mite, a small (0.1 mm) arthropod that lives on human skin in hair follicles. There is debate whether they cause disease, specifically inflammation of the eyelids. Most opinions I read suggest

However, the mood changed when Cane told Lily that he and Juliet found out they were having a boy. Hilary badmouthed Jordan in front of Devon, hoping that it would keep Lily from getting involved with him. Billy and Victoria were pleased with the recent upswing in their sales numbers. Vintage rides Antique, vintage, and just plain sweet rides were on display Sunday at Yorkton Crossing. The show was a chance for some food, music, and a look at the great

vehicles on display.

Harvest progress had been steady Producers have made significant harvest progress, due in large part to the warm and dry weather, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report. Sixty-five per cent of the crop is now combined, up from 45 per cent last week, which is well ahead of the five year (2012-2016) average of 40 per cent combined for this time of year. Twenty-two per cent of the crop is swathed or ready to straight-cut.

Harvest is most advanced in the southwestern region, where 86 per cent of the crop is now combined. The southeastern region has 76 per cent combined, the westcentral region 66 per cent and the east-central region 57 per cent. The northeastern region has 37 per cent combined, while the northwestern region has 35 per cent combined. Some producers have wrapped up harvest operations and many more expect to be finished in the coming

weeks. Ninety-eight per cent of lentils, 95 per cent of field peas, 82 per cent of mustard, 81 per cent of durum, 71 per cent of barley, 63 per cent of spring wheat, 50 per cent of canola and 20 per cent of flax have now been combined. Thirty-nine per cent of canola is swathed or ready to straight-cut. Durum grades are being reported as 69 per cent 1 CWAD, 28 per cent 2 CWAD and three per cent 3 CWAD.

Pea grades are 47 per cent 1 CAN, 49 per cent 2 CAN and four per cent 3 CAN. Lentil grades are 37 per cent 1 CAN, 57 per cent 2 CAN, five per cent 3 CAN and one per cent Sample grade. Minimal disease issues have occurred so far, although there are some lighter bushel weights being reported. The majority of the province received no rainfall last week, although the Unity and Neilburg areas both reported receiving five mm. Topsoil moisture

Province adjusts approach to Sleep Apnea Services Beginning Oct. 1, patients requiring continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines will be able to purchase a machine at a discount made available through the Government of Saskatchewan’s bulk purchasing process. CPAP machines are flow generators used primarily to treat patients suffering from sleep apnea. A common sleep disorder, sleep apnea causes shallow breaths or pauses in breathing during sleep.

In the 2017-18 provincial budget, government announced it would only provide CPAP coverage for low-income residents receiving Supplementary and Family Health Benefits. “Following consultation with respirologists and review of processes in other jurisdictions, we’ve determined that the same annual savings could be

achieved from an alternate approach,” Health Minister Jim Reiter said.

“This approach will reduce costs for patients and allow better access for those who need it, while still achieving the same savings for the province.”

conditions continue to worsen with the warm and windy weather. Across the province, topsoil moisture on cropland is rated as 15 per cent adequate, 39 per cent short and 46 per cent very short. Hay land and pasture topsoil moisture is rated as 11 per cent adequate, 34 per cent short and 55 per cent very short. With the dry field conditions, many producers have indicated that winter cereals may not be seeded this fall. Lack of moisture continues to cause crop damage, while strong winds have blown swaths around and shelled-out standing crops. There are many reports of combine and grass fires due to the extremely dry conditions.

By Cindy Elavsky Q: My sister and I got hooked on this series we found on Netflix called “Versailles.” Can you tell us when or if it will be back for another season? — Jennifer T., via email A: The lush and intriguing period piece will indeed be back for a second season. “Versailles” — which airs first across the Pond in France and Great Britain — will return to Ovation TV in the States with 10 new episodes on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 10 p.m. ET, with a Netflix premiere a few months later (an exact date has not yet been revealed). In season two, the uprising of separatists continues to threaten Louis XIV

George Blagden (played by George Blagden of “Vikings” fame) — his life, his crown and all that he holds dear — as they jockey for control of France. Drugs, gambling and alcohol are rampant as nobles begin to poison each other to get closer to the king and climb the social ladder. Blinded by

his passion for his mistress Montespan, Louis refuses to listen to the advice of the church and his closest advisers. The new season sees Greta Scacchi in the role of Madeleine de Foix, along with newcomers Harry Hadden-Patton, Suzanne Clement, Catherine Walker, Mark Rendall and Jessica Clark. Q: It seems like I’ve been waiting forever for my ABC Wednesdaynight primetime lineup to return. Can you tell me when that will be? — Keenan F., Asbury Park, New Jersey A: The wait is almost over. Starting Sept. 27 at 8, we have the season premieres of “The Goldbergs,” “Speechless,” “Modern Family,” “American Housewife” and “Designated Survivor.” Speaking of the latter, ABC president Channing Dungey told TV Line that this season of “Designated Survivor” won’t be as twisty-turny as season one, explaining: “As much as we love the twists and turns and the cliffhangers, what we’re really looking forward to exploring in season two is

are dying to see what the Lagina brothers will discover on that island. The brothers themselves are growing weary of the search and do not relish leaving their families for four or five months out of the year. Series creator Kevin Burns told “Local Express”: “We are not set to come back for another year; take of that what you will.” But he also said the History Channel would “jump at the chance” to renew the show. Write to Cindy at King Features Weekly Service,

some of the character relationships and some of the interpersonal dynamics in the White House.” Q: I have waited all summer for the next chapter of the “Curse of Oak Island.” Fall is almost upon us and I haven’t seen or read when the show will resume. Please tell me it IS coming back! — Genny F., Summerfield, Florida A: I can’t give you a definitive answer, but I can tell you what I do know. The last episode of season four gave the show its highest-ever ratings. Viewers

PICKS OF THE WEEK “Beatriz at Dinner” (R) — Billed as a black comedy, “Beatriz at Dinner” stars Salma Hayek as Beatriz, a natural health practitioner high up in the hills of Los Angeles on a house call. A selfdescribed healer — and seen by her host Cathy (Connie Britton) as saintly — Beatriz’s car breaks down and she is invited to stay for a very important dinner party. Enter Doug Strutt (John Lithgow), real estate tycoon and a man whose revolting smugness and patronization prompt a reaction in Beatriz. As the alcohol flows, so too does the menace from our villain, the obliviousness and arrogance of the other party guests and Beatriz’s frustration in the confrontation of a man who is not only unhealable, but unredeemable. Jay Duplass,

George (Hart) and Harold (Thomas Middleditch) are two mischief-making kids and inventors of the comic-book hero Captain Underpants. After one prank too many, the boys are called onto the carpet by Principal Krupp (Ed Helms), who threatens to separate the two. With a hopeful flash of his hypnotizing ring, George man-

ages to accidentally turn the cranky school administrator into an overnight action hero (of sorts) going head to head with a villain called Professor Poopypants (Nick Kroll). Don’t try to resist. Loosen your big-boy belt and enjoy the ridiculous ride ... fart jokes and all. “The Mummy” (PG-13) — The ancient Princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), intent on seizing the reins of power, turns to the malevolent god Set, but before her plan can come to fruition, she is imprisoned in a sarcophagus submerged in a pool of mercury and entombed. Then

Did you know? According to Smithsonian.com, the Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating traces its origins to the Celtic tradition of dressing up as evil spirits at the end of the year. But unlike the trick-or-treaters of today, the Celts did not dress up for fun or in search of candy. According to Celtic belief, the dead and the living would overlap during the transition from one year to the next. Celts also believed that demons would roam the earth during this transition period. So Celts dressed up as evil spirits so the demons they believed were walking the earth would mistake them as one of

along come Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and archaeologist Jenny Halsey (Annabelle Wallis) to inadvertently set Ahmanet loose and unleash her evil fury on modern-day London. The charm and camp of previous iterations are scrubbed in favor of spectacular monster sequences, and some tortured storylines involving the legend-hunting agency Prodigium headed by Dr. Jekyll (Russell Crowe). “It Comes at Night” (R) — After the outbreak of a vicious and highly contagious illness, a man (Joel Edgerton) takes refuge at a remote family home with his wife (Carmen Egojo) and son (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). Another young family (Riley Keough, Christopher Abbott) intrudes, seeking safety and community. Director and writer Trey Edward Shults takes this barebones scenario and

their own. But it was not just the Celts who contributed to what Halloween has become today. Historians believe that trick-ortreating may also be rooted in the medieval practice of “souling,” in which poor children would go from door-to-door on All Souls’ Day and ask for food in exchange for prayers for the dead. Both Celtic traditions and the practice of souling no doubt contributed to modern Halloween traditions, but the Halloween traditions celebrants know today have been practiced for less than 100 years.

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) This is a good time for the usually outspoken Lamb to be a bit more discreet. You still can get your point across, but do it in a way less likely to turn off a potential supporter. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Good news: All that hard work you put in is beginning to pay off. But you need to watch that tendency to insist on doing things your way or no way. Be a bit more flexible. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) You might want to delay making a decision on the future of a longstanding relationship until you check out some heretofore hidden details that are just now beginning to emerge.

GRILLED SAUSAGE AND APPLE SLAW SUBS Hearty brats and creamy, crunchy slaw are made fit for fall tailgating with the addition of crisp apples. •4 wedge bratwurst links •2 large unpeeled Granny Smith apples •1/2 small red onion •1/3 cup mayonnaise •1 tablespoon cider vinegar •1 teaspoon spicy brown mustard •1/4 teaspoon celery salt •4 hoagie rolls Heat grill or grill pan for direct grilling on medium-

CANCER (June 21 to July 22) Your reluctance to compromise on an important issue could backfire without more facts to support your position. Weigh your options carefully before making your next move. LEO (July 23 to August 22) This is a good time for ambitious Leos or Leonas to shift from planning their next move to actually doing it. Your communication skills help persuade others to join you. VIRGO (August 23 to September 22) Relationships — personal or professional — present new challenges. Be careful not to let a sudden surge of stubbornness influence how you choose to deal with them.

high. Grill bratwurst links 10 to 12 minutes or until cooked through, turning often. Meanwhile, grate unpeeled Granny Smith apples and red onion into large bowl. Toss with mayonnaise, cider vinegar, spicy brown mustard and celery salt. Divide among hoagie rolls. Serves 4. RED PEPPER RELISH Serve this easy-to-prepare relish with grilled sausages. •1/2 cup red wine vinegar •1/4 cup sugar •2 red peppers, finely chopped •1/2 cup finely chopped

LIBRA (September 23 to October 22) You might need more facts before you can decide on a possible career change. But you should have no problem making a decision about an important personal matter. SCORPIO (October 23 to November 21) You’re respected by most people for your direct, no-nonsense approach to the issues. But be careful you don’t replace honest skepticism with stinging sarcasm. SAGITTARIUS (November 22 to December 21) A newly emerging situation could require a good deal of attention and some difficult decision-making. However, close friends will help you see it through.

that could hinder your efforts to repair damaged relationships. AQUARIUS (January 20 to February 18) Of course you deserve to indulge yourself in something special. But for now, tuck that bit of mad money away. You’ll need it to help with a looming cash crunch. PISCES (February 19 to March 20) A temporary setback in your financial situation is eased by changing some of your plans. You’ll be able to ride it out quite well until the tide turns back in your favor. BORN THIS WEEK: You have a gift for under-

standing people’s needs. You have a low tolerance

for those who act without concern for others.

Did you know? Nursing is one of the fastest-growing and longest-running occupations in the United States and Canada. The New England Hospital for Women and Children, established in 1862, was the first nursing school in the United States. The first formal nursing training program in

Canada was established in 1874 at the General and Marine Hospital in St. Catharines, Ontario. The American Nurses Association was started in 1898. The Canadian Nurses’ Association, formerly the Canadian National Association of Trained Nurses, was developed in 1907. These

HOLLYWOOD — Mark Wahlberg tops Forbes Magazine’s list of highest-paid actors for 2017 with $68 million (pretax), thanks to “Transformers: The Last Knight”; “Daddy’s Home 2,” arriving Nov. 10, with Will Ferrell and Mel Gibson; and the ironically titled “All the Money In the World,” with Michelle Williams and Kevin Spacey, due Dec. 8. This doesn’t include the fortune he’s making from Spectrum commercials and “Wahlburgers” (the series and the hamburger joints). He also makes big bucks for producing. No. 2 is “The Rock,”

Shoot for the one with the highest interest rate, generally. Or, if you’re the type who needs motivation beyond the knowledge that you are freeing yourself financially, stack them smallest to largest. When you pay off the balance on the smallest loan, fold that extra payment up to the next smallest loan and so on until you are debt-free! • Toothpaste is a mild abrasive, and it’s suitable

There’s no bad smells in my closet, even with a hamper full of workout wear.” — E.L. in South Carolina • “Pickle juice: What is it good for? Lots! You can drink it if you have a muscle cramp, or in the summer when it’s really hot and you’re working out to keep from getting dehydrated. But I sometimes like lightly pickled veggies (carrots, cukes and peppers), so when I’m done with the last pickle, I pour the juice and some rough chopped veggies in a saucepot, bring it to a boil and put them right back in the pickle jar. Put it in the fridge, and you’ll have

Another actor producing for really big bucks is Vin Diesel, whose slice of the billion-dollar grosser “The Fate of the Furious,” made him No. 3 at $54 million, with help from “The Return of Xander Cage” and “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.” Coming in at No. 4 is Adam Sandler, who went to Netflix this year in a big way and raked in $50 million for “Sandy Wexler,” with Oscarwinner Jennifer Hudson, Kevin James, Terry Crews and Rob Schneider; “The Meyerowitz Stories,” with Ben Stiller, Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman; and “The Week Of” with Chris Rock and Rachel Dratch. No. 5 Jackie Chan still is the top grosser in China, where he made seven films this year, as well as “Shanghai Dawn,” the sequel to “Shanghai Knights” (2003), again with Owen Wilson; and “The Foreigner,” with Pierce Brosnan, for a total of $49 million. Remember Steve Howey of “Reba”? He’s gone to the dogs! His justreleased film, shot in 2015,

is “Unleashed,” in which a cosmic storm turns him (a dog) and the family cat into two perfect men who vie for dates with their mistress. When you watch the film, see if you can spot Kathy Garver, who played older sister Cissy in the 1960s sitcom “Family Affair.” Brad Pitt is returning to acting in the sci-fi epic “Ad Astra,” with Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, Jamie Kennedy and Ruth Negga, in which he searches the solar system for his missing father. Pitt

Two-time Oscar winner Hillary Swank, now onscreen with Channing Tatum in the mediocre “Logan Lucky,” has completed “55 Steps,” with Helena Bonham Carter and Jeffrey Tambor; “What They Had,” with Michael Shannon, Robert Forster and Blythe Danner; and is executive producing and starring in “Intimate Strangers.” No doubt it will be a “Swank Production.”

I don’t know about you, but this summer seemed especially boring in the world of sports. Save for Aaron Judge’s first half, Dale Earnhardt’s retirement, Kyle Bush’s trifecta, Mayweather-McGregor and Federer’s win at Wimbledon, there was not a lot going on. Luckily, the NFL is back. I’m not going to give any fantasy predictions, but these are three things that I’d hang my hat on for the upcoming season: Most Valuable Player: Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants New CBS color commentator Tony Romo (who booted Phil Simms from the gig) got it right when he hailed Manning in a preseason interview with New York Newsday. “He’s a legend of the game, and he’s still playing,” Romo said. “The good ones play through [rebuilding years] and come out of it with a good team on the end. ... I think Eli is one of those.” Manning is a fierce competitor, even though his demeanor seems to indicate otherwise. Nobody takes a sack as well as Manning ... it’s almost at the level of martial arts. Whenever he’s hit, he rolls with it and hits the ground on his terms. That’s why

he never missed a start in 14 seasons. Also, it’s pretty easy to see whether or not the Giants will win any game. If Eli comes out firing and making completions, hitting that window, the Giants almost always win. They’re one of the Super Bowl favorites this year, and he’s a huge reason why. Dud of the Year: Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys The NFL history books are littered with tales of quarterbacks who had one great season (think Matt Leinart, Scott Mitchell or Ken O’Brien) and were never able to do it again. History shows that in order to be worth anything in this league, you have to do it at least twice. Prescott did it very well once, but now he has no running game with Ezekiel Elliott suspended for six games. Defenses can lay back and concentrate on stopping the pass. How Prescott reacts will determine whether or not the Cowboys made the right move in handing the franchise over to him. Personally, I think he is up to the task, but if I had to bet, he’d be the guy I’d be least surprised by having a bad year. Super Bowl Pick: New York Giants defeat New England Patriots In addition to the potent Manning-Beckham Jr. attack, the Giants will have one of the best, if not the best, defenses in the league. I see them pass-

A11

ing Green Bay in the playoffs in order to get New England, a juggernaut that defies description. Looking at their schedule, it’s not a stretch to see the Giants, 11-5 last year, improving to 14-2, and if they don’t, it would be a MAJOR letdown. Really, the only tough teams on their schedule are the Seattle Seahawks and the Oakland Raiders. The Giants will battle every NFC East team, and although a loss to the Cowboys, Redskins or Eagles away certainly could be in the cards, this team is playoff-bound if it gets its running game together. As far as New England goes? As long as Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are alive, there is no real compelling reason to choose any other team coming out of the AFC. I have them beating either the Chiefs or the rotten Raiders in the AFC championship. The rest is up to God and Tom Brady. Mark Vasto is a veteran sportswriter who lives in New Jersey.

Hearing Aid Trial

“ W hy do I hear but not understand? ” If you struggle to understand, you’re not alone, in fact 47% of Canadians over the age of 60 have hearing loss. Your hearing difficulties could be caused by damaged hearing hair cells inside your inner ear (cochlea). When damage occurs in the high-frequency areas of the cochlea (where consonants are heard), speech may sound garbled and comprehension may become difficult. The right hearing aid could help you improve your comprehension.

NEW HOUSE • It was American author and political activist Barbara Ehrenreich who made the following sage observation: “No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.” • Coke has the honor of being the first soft drink in space. Members of the Space Shuttle Challenger drank the beverage from a specially designed “CocaCola Space Can.” • Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, was one tough son of a gun. In his

youth, his fighting prowess won him fame as a national hero for defeating the British at the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 — and he never slowed down, it seemed. At the age of 67, he was at a speaking engagement when a member of the audience pulled out a gun and tried to shoot him. When the gun misfired, President Jackson used his walking stick to beat his attacker almost senseless. • If you’re like the typical human, it takes your brain about 0.0004 seconds to retrieve any given memory. • Even in these modern days, certain maritime traditions hold on. For instance, when a new ship is launched for the first time, the water that first touches the ship is caught in a bottle. Once sealed, that bottle stays with the ship; it’s typically displayed in the captain’s office, near the bridge. • On a per-capita basis, residents of Mexico consume more carbonated drinks than people in any other country on Earth. Thought for the Day: “I have always supported measures and principles, and not men. I have acted fearless and independent, and I never will regret my course. I would rather be politically buried than to be hypocritically immortalized.” — Davy Crockett

Before heading home to Minnesota from our cabin in the California coastal mountains, I dropped by the Anderson family’s lively backyard on a Saturday morning to say good-bye. Between feeding chickens and harvesting veggies, I caught Josh, a dad with three daughters under 10, with pruning shears in

his hands showing 8-yearold Selah how to trim small branches from their healthy lemon tree.

a healthier family life,” he said.

“When we cut away this growth and dead branches, it creates space for more life, for more fruit to grow,” he explained to her. As prickly branches tumbled to the ground, he likened what he was doing to family life this fall. Just like pruning the tree, he

DEAR PAW’S CORNER: I’m heartbroken over the ongoing disaster in south Texas and Louisiana, and especially for the thousands of pets being displaced and separated from their owners. It stirs up terrible memories of

Hurricane Katrina and all the lost pets from that storm. Is there anything that we, who are in safe places, can do to help these pets and owners who have lost everything? — Carol in Buffalo, New York DEAR CAROL: Twelve years ago, I wrote about the problems caused by Katrina’s flooding, including pets being displaced and sent to shelters across the country. There was a huge increase of diseases like heartworm in pets who were lost outdoors for many days. Since then, a lot has

changed. Disaster planning now requires that pets be considered in cities’ evacuation plans. Shelters in hurricaneprone areas have developed disaster plans that include ways to effectively manage an influx of hundreds of animals. Ahead of Harvey, many shelters in the evacuation zones transferred their adoptable occupants to other states to make room for rescued pets. Local shelters are networking more closely with each other, with national rescue groups and with the public (thanks in part to social media like Twitter) to coor-

dinate transfer of animals to overflow shelters. For example, one shelter, Austin Pets Alive!, is taking in pets by the truckload and for several days has coordinated transfers, as well as calls for volunteers and supplies, via Twitter. You may be able to donate supplies directly to Texas shelters that need them (by ordering them on Amazon, for example) or by donating money to national rescue organizations like HSUS or the ASPCA. NOW HIRING! NIGHT GROCERY CLERKS

The lemon tree metaphor and lesson in pruning activities not only applies to young families but to all of us with kids in our lives. Dr. Laurie Bunnel, educator in the Seattle area and mom of two teens with one off to college, faces the overscheduled dilemma, too. “Many parents are trying to be time heroes, driven and sometimes proud to be able to pack everything that comes into their lives into a day. But we can’t do it all, even when we think we should. Focus on priorities that give your life a rhythm of working and resting,” she suggests.

Even taking a family vacation. The process requires a lot of pruning, but we build our schedule around those. Is it family time or another sports practice?
