Be more visible with BBB

Today’s savvy consumers and businesses want control and confidence in choosing companies that have made public commitments to doing what is right. Businesses who choose to run great, trustworthy operations, meet the requirements of Better Business Bureau (BBB) Accreditation. That’s one reason BBB Accreditation carries so much weight with consumers. It gives your business the advantage you need to win a contract or attract consumers to your products. Here are some other key advantages to becoming BBB Accredited: Consumers Trust You The BBB brand has stood for trust in the marketplace for over a century and many customers recognize the BBB Accredited Business Seal. When they see it attached to your brand, they know you are a business they can trust. Industry Leaders Being accredited puts you in an elite group of businesses that have proven to be the best in their industry. It shows other businesses that you are trustworthy, live up to a higher standard of business practice, and gives you opportunities to learn and interact with other great businesses. Stand Out, Be Known There are many tools to increase your exposure online with BBB. Every Accredited Business is listed in the Business Directory and identified with the Accredited Business Seal.

Build A Better Business BBB offers workshops, webinars, training, monthly newsletters, and other resources to help businesses excel and be the type of business consumers are after. Consumer Leads The exclusive ‘Request a Quote’ program makes it easy for consumers to connect with your business. 5 ways to write great quality content

Every brand wants to know the secret ingredient that makes people click on their website in Google search, scroll down the page, and keep coming back for more. And, indeed, the answer is simple. Great quality content. Just average content might give you a few clicks here and there, but that’s about it. Great content, on the other hand, sparks interest to know more about your brand and interact with it; it builds brand trust and credibility, which eventually position you as an industry expert. So, here are a few useful tips to help you succeed in writing that great piece of content: Make it human, tell a story. We, as humans, love reading and telling stories. As a Canadian poet Margaret Atwood put it, “You’re never going to kill storytelling, because it’s built into the human plan. We come with it.” That’s just the way our brain works. We all want to relate to something and feel connected. Provide value. While it’s good to tell a story, it’s not always enough. Make sure to do your research and get to know your audience better. David Ogilvy, also known as the father of advertising, once said, “A good advertisement is one which sells the product without drawing attention to itself.” So, make it more about your readers, provide them with value and an opportunity to give feedback. Guaranteed, you’ll see great results.

Make a strong headline. If you want to get your readers’ attention, it’s also crucial to make a strong and catchy headline. According to Copyblogger, 80% of your readers will read your headline, but just 20% will continue reading the rest. There are a number of tools on the internet that can calculate your headline score, provide feedback on how to improve it, and give a few title suggestions. Make it easy to read. You probably know the feeling of giving up on reading a blog post with big chunks of plain text that makes you tired. Instead, break big paragraphs into pieces, use subheadings, and avoid lengthy sentences. That way, it will be easier to digest the information, and your readers will thank you for that. *Bonus point: Proofread. Twice. Because those typos are kind of a big deal. Optimize for SEO. In the digital age, you absolutely must incorporate SEO into your content marketing strategy. Researching keywords, working on your headlines, and taking word count into consideration – are all good starting points to boost your rank in Google search. Many brands are already using content marketing in their strategy, and this number is projected to grow. Stay ahead of the curve and build your brand’s trust and credibility with Glacier Media Digital’s content packages.

The 10% Difference and Why Shop Local Matters to Yorkton

By Juanita Polegi, ACE Executive Director Yorkton Chamber of Commerce If everyone shifted just 10% of their spending from on-line to local businesses, what would that do to the Yorkton econ-

omy? The Shop Local campaign initiative by the Government of Canada provided the funding for the Yorkton Chamber to commission a study by Praxis Consulting to answer that question. In the study, the researchers created a “Yorkton Region” whereby they included the populations of the City of Yorkton; the RMs of Wallace and Orkney; the Town of Springside; and the Village of Ebenezer. Their analysis showed that an increase of 10% in spending at local businesses could: • Add 416 new positions to total employment • Increase total labour income by $18 million • Generate an extra $45.6 million in GDP with an increase of $80.6 million in total gross output Such increases would directly positively impact the retail and finance and real estate and rental industries. Positive indirect impacts would be experienced Continued on Page 5

The 10% Difference and Why Shop Local Matters to Yorkton Continued from Page 4 by professional service industries and the industries providing business services. This study supports the reality that when you support a LOCAL BUSINESS, you’re making a positive impact on your community. Local businesses hire your kids and neighbours. Local businesses donate to local sports, cultural and recreational activities. Local businesses pay

taxes. Another interesting fact reported by Praxis is that every $100 spent in a local business generates an additional $38 in local economic activity. Local businesses are committed to this community. The best way to show your appreciation is to “think before you click” and shop locally – either in-person or online.

Yorkton Business Improvement District

Another year has almost passed and if you had to say what is the Yorkton Business Improvement District or the YBID, we would have to say Community! The members of the District in 2021 saw many programs and although the events were not as much as other years we were able to take part in several events and projects. Stepping back in the beginning of the YBID, the lights project continues to keep our streets lit and help with safety for all in the District. Our benches and garbage cans continue to give our shoppers and shop owners a place to sit and help keep the streets clean. 2021 for the YBID saw our Flower pot program continue and include 20 new black pots with funding provided by the PHCDC. We saw this program go through some issues with the summer heat and the vandalism but we have prevailed and continue the program with much encouragement and support from the community. Clean sweep also continued with some repairs to the carts but this program also received many compliments and continues to clean the District sidewalks to help keep our streets walkable and clean. Work started on fixing a couple of issues at the City Centre Park which included reviewing the needs to fix or replace the digital clock portion of the sundial and the restoration of the historic mural. Help from the City and the Community made possible the full restoration of the mural and we were lucky enough to include the work of the original artist Grant McLaughlin. With recommendations from him we searched for local artists to join him and pass along the care of the mural to them. Tonia Vermette and Angelina Kardynal came to the

call and the restoration was complete on Aug. 21st 2021. A beautiful and again historic project the YBID was able to give to the community. We cry from the roof tops to SHOP LOCAL and 2021 has been no exception. Shopping 20% more in the local businesses brings millions to the local economy. Keeping your neighbor, your friend, your family in business and able to support their families and the community. Our local spotlight on business as the YBID Chats has seen over 30 interviews from our members and will stay on social media for all to view. We were able to visit many of the members this summer and just dropped in to say hi and see how things are going. We had many challenges with Covid but also many accomplishments, additions, and growth even through the Pandemic. Our Members are resilient, creative, and true entrepreneurs who adapt and survive. What’s to come for the last quarter of the year? We will see the Clean Sweep Winter continue for the Downtown and to include areas of the sidewalks that just need to keep clear of snow to allow for walkers. We will look to fill our Board with some new business owners, we will attend events and hopefully host a member appreciation and AGM in Nov. Then also in Nov. we will see the beloved Santa Claus Parade which will include some new and exciting things so stay tuned for that! Want to get involved? Call us at 306.783.9243, email us at exec.dir@yorktonbid.com, or message us on fb. Our ED Donna Brothwell will gladly take your call, ideas, and input towards our projects and more.
