MYSKO - John Mysko, age 93, beloved husband of Anne Mysko of Yorkton. John passed away on the early morning of August 31, 2016 in the Yorkton and District Nursing home after suffering the effects of a debilitating stroke that occurred in February 2016. John was born on Dec.10, 1922 in the Wroxton district of Saskatchewan to Paul and Mary (nee Prestiayko) Mysko. He was raised with five brothers, Peter, Mike, Steve, William, Walter and one sister, Ann. John attended school at Geddes School and at a young age he developed his skills as a farmer and would work along with his parents and siblings on the family farm during the challenging times of the great depression. John served for a period in the Canadian army in the 1940’s where after his military service he resumed farming. John married Anne Parkalub on Nov. 8, 1953 and together they owned and farmed in several locations in Saskatchewan and Alberta. In their marriage union they raised two children, Evelina born in 1954 and Julian born in 1962. John especially excelled in his teen years as a musician playing a variety of musical instruments and eventually primarily focused his music skills on the accordion. He performed traditional, old-time, country and gospel music for many years of his life in various music bands throughout the Prairie regions of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He would also love to entertain and perform his music at home while his wife Anne would accompany him with her vocal talent singing various styles of music. John also encouraged his children to learn an instrument and appreciate music. Even in his later years of life he would still love to volunteer his time to entertain with his music skills in senior living lodges and nursing homes. For many years in some of John’s spare time he also had a passion to play the game of snooker and he was quite proficient at the sport and would compete in local tournaments particularly in the Yorkton area. ln addition he was mechanically inclined and would learn to repair vehicles, farm machinery and many musical instruments he owned. John eventually retired from farming and settled in his last home residence in Yorkton with his wife Anne and two children Evelina and Julian. He still stayed and remained physically active up until his debilitating stroke in February of 2016. John had a long spiritual journey throughout his adult years and he learned and grew in the Christian faith and attended church wherever he and the family lived. As John’s years transpired in the Christian faith he would strongly accentuate the necessary biblical decree of forgiveness that he and all other people should exemplify and practice. John is predeceased by his father Paul, mother Mary, brothers, Peter, Mike, William, Steve and sister Ann. He leaves to cherish his devoted and loving wife Anne, daughter Evelina and son Julian and his brother Walter (Mary), nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Funeral Services were held on Friday, September 9, 2016 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Pastor Brian Kirsch of Heritage Baptist Church officiating. The hymns were ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Old Rugged Cross’. The recessional music was a recording of John playing the accordion. Interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemene in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Audrey Mysko-Weitzel, Launey Weitzel, Val Moker, Gordon Moker and George Flunder serving as the casket bearers. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials in memory of John may be made to the C.N.I.B., The Heritage Baptist Church Memorial Fund or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation as gifts of remembrance. Arrangements were entrusted to:
WOROSCHUK Mrs. Jean Woroschuk of Yorkton, widow of the late Peter Woroschuk, formerly of the Calder district, passed away on August 30, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 95 years of age. Mom was born November 25, 1920, the sixth child of Nick and Veronia (Antony) Wicheruk, west of MacNutt. Mom attended Chornawka School. Due to her mother being widowed at an early age, Mom left home as a young lady to work for different families including a lawyer in Yorkton. During her employment in the Stornoway area she attended a church service where she met Dad for the first time. Dad said “Mom was as pretty as a little doll”. November 5, 1944, Mom and Dad were married at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, MacNutt by Reverend Nick Urbanowitz. The wedding reception was in the house of Dad’s parents north of Calder. They were donated $230.00 and started out by living with Dad’s parents for 4 years. Mom worked hard in all aspects of farm life. More than anything she was a motivator and encourager. She led by good example in all she did; everything from baking bread, growing a beautiful garden, milking cows, helping on the field and in everything that was required of her as a hardworking farm wife and mother. Mom enjoyed the outdoors; picking mushrooms, hazelnuts and berries and being helpful regardless of how difficult a job was. Dad and Mom retired from the farm and moved to Yorkton in 2001. Their son Andrew (Kim) continue farming on the family farm. Mom was definitely our cheerleader; happy for our successes and accomplishments. Our Mom was faithful in her daily prayers and faith in God; she practiced and instilled Christian faith in us. Everyone was always welcome at her house and you never left Mom’s table without being fed. Up until Mom’s passing she kept a diary about the daily events in our lives and also kept a church diary for St. Marks Orthodox Church. Mom enjoyed going to the Lion’s Day Wellness program at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home where she attended church, visited, played cards and took part in group activities, even making paschka. The many pairs of mitts and slippers she knit us will be treasured by all her family. We have many fond memories of her keen sense of humour and the time we enjoyed with her. She rarely got angry with us and if she did she wouldn’t show it. Mom and Dad enjoyed travelling over the years but more than anything they looked forward to family time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially at weddings, Christmas and Easter. Mom, I hope you know how much we love you and will always miss you. Mom is survived by her children: Andrew (Kim) of Calder; Stan (Louise) of Yorkton; Marge (Gordie) Stevenson of Yorkton; Stephanie (John) Bodnaryk of Rhein; 10 grandchildren, LeeAnn (Peter) Novak of White City, Angie Redpath of Lloydminster, LaVerne Woroschuk (Steve Bailey) of Calgary, Dave (Kara) Fyck of Yorkton, Sherry (Grant) Lindgren of Pilot Butte, Dean (Eileen) Fyck of Yorkton, Melissa (Ryan) Samenook of Edmonton, Ian (Maria) Bodnaryk of Yorkton, Stacy (Adam) Vangen of Canora, Colin (Jill) Bodnaryk of Grandora and 18 great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her parents Nick and Veronia, siblings Senora, Dora, Lena, Mary, Philip, Metro, Mitch and Ann, son David in 1970 and her husband Peter in October, 2015. A special thank you to all who called and visited Mom. Memory Eternal. Prayer services were held on Tuesday evening, September 6, 2016 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Fr. Rodion Luciuk officiating. Cantor, Zenovia Duch led in the singing of the responses. At the conclusion of the prayers, daughter Stephanie gave a tribute and offered thanks on behalf of the family. Raymond Yost led in the singing of ‘Just As I Am’, ‘How Great Thou Art’, ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘Jesus Loves Me’. The funeral service was celebrated on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from St. Mark the Evangelist Orthodox Church, Yorkton. Cantor, Bob Rohr, assisted by members of the Parish Choir, led in the singing of the responses. John Bodnaryk was the cross bearer. The interment took place in the family plot at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Dave and Dean Fyck, Steve Bailey, Ian and Colin Bodnaryk and Grant Lindgren serving as the casket bearers. Daughter Stephanie and daughter-in-law Louise spoke at the memorial luncheon following the interment. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to St. Mark’s Church, or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

STOKMAN - Mrs. Agnes Stokman of Yorkton peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour at the age of 97 years. Agnes was born on September 25, 1918, in Haarlemmermeer, the Netherlands. After five years moved to Yorkton, SK, where they raised their nine children. Mom was a busy mother, caring and sewing all of her children’s clothing. She grew a large vegetable garden which fed the family for the entire year. The many tasks of cooking, cleaning, canning and baking for her growing family kept her at home where we could always count on her being there when we got home from school. She was a dedicated active member of St. Gerard’s Parish and Catholic Women’s League serving in the hall for various functions over the years. She was proud to peel hundreds of pounds of potatoes to aid the fundraising efforts for the church even at the late age of 95. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was always interested in the lives of her children and their families. She loved the outdoors and took great pride in her yard and flower beds. She loved to travel, taking every opportunity to visit with each of her children regularly. She made several return trips to Holland to visit with family she left behind so many years ago, each time taking one of her children as a travelling companion. She spent the latter years of her life enjoying the company of those at the Queen Elizabeth and the Church. She loved playing cards, shuffleboard, exercise classes, hymn sing, bingo and playing in the kitchen band. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting and gardening, all of which she did with pride and passion. She made many afghans, quilts and baby sweaters for every incoming new member of the family, using each project as time to reflect and pray for the intended recipient. Mom always loved to read, staying current on the events of the day. She was interested in the lives of those around her. Her smile was infectious and even though she couldn’t always say the words in English that she wanted to say, the message of friendship got through with a solid handshake or a hug and a kiss. Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius, in 1991 and also by her beloved son, Jacob, in 2008. She leaves to celebrate her life in stories and fond memories, her children: Nick (Judy), Nellie (Garry) Barbour, Mary (Bob) Chomyn, Anne Stupak, Helen (Rudy) Kvale, Martha Gable, Willie (Betty), John (Darlene) and many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. The Family wishes to thank staff at Yorkton Regional Hospital who cared so lovingly for our mother in her last days.
