FLAVEL - James Alan Flavel passed away suddenly on June 18, 2017 at the age of 54 years. James was born on September 21, 1962 in Regina, SK, the son of Alan and the late Helen (nee Macknak) Flavel. At an early age Jimmy’s family moved from Regina to Yorkton, SK. He attended the Lion’s School for his education. He enjoyed school and was not above pulling the odd prank on the teachers. Jim was a very fun loving boy. James went to work at the Parkland Abilities Centre and enjoyed various tasks there. In his early teens James developed schizophrenia and this totally changed his life. He battled with this disease the rest of his life. James was predeceased by his mother, Helen. He will be lovingly remembered by his father, Alan and his brothers, Robert (Adele) of Regina, SK and their sons, Nolan (Stephanie) and Curtis (Kristen); Michael (Heather) of Regina, SK and their children, Christopher (Emmy) and Terri and Marlin (Vanessa) of Weyburn, SK and their daughter, Sela. Jimmy was always considerate of other people and willing to help anyone who needed it. James will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The Prayer Vigil Service was held from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK on Thursday, June 22, 2017 with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The Reader was Marlin Flavel. The pianist, Diana Hornung and members of the church choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Lord of All Hopefulness”, “Psalm 119” and “Day is Done”. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, June 23, 2017 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Francis Hengen as the Celebrant. The Readers were Robert Flavel and Michael Flavel and the cross bearer was Marlin Flavel. The pianist, Chris Fisher and members of the church choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Be Not Afraid”, “Psalm 23”, “Come Home”, “All for Your Glory”, “Song of the Angels” and “Glory and Praise to Our God”. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Christopher Flavel, Nolan Flavel, Curtis Flavel, Jeff Flavel, Rodney Macknak and Jeremy Macknak serving as the pall bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. WELLS - Joyce Laura Mary (nee Brazeau) Wells passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was 66 years of age. Joyce was welcomed into the world on September 14, 1950, the daughter of Stanley Joseph and Mary Jane (nee Allary) Brazeau. She grew up on, as she always said, “what we referred to as the farm”. Joyce, along with most of her siblings, attended Allary school which was very close to their home. She had a wonderful relationship with siblings, they enjoyed life together and were a support to one another. One of her favourite pastimes was playing the guitar with her siblings and friends. She always enjoyed good friends and good company. Other pleasures in Joyce’s life were picking berries Saskatoon and choke cherries, playing Yahtzee, playing cards especially 31 and playing bingo. Joyce loved to garage sale and could not wait to turn the other way if she saw a sign advertising one. A true caregiver, Joyce enjoyed her work with home care. Joyce loved her family with all her heart and Christmas was her favourite time of the year. When she chose to settle down she called Theodore, SK her permanent home. She always made sure her kids had a place to call home. Joyce was predeceased by her Dad, Stanley Joseph Brazeau and her twin sister, in infancy. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Garnet Wells; her three children, Bryan Venne, Devona Venne (Rob) and Lance Wells; her grandchildren, Bradley Venne and Chad Venne; her mother, Mary Jane and siblings, Roy Brazeau (Alerena), Lynda Fast, Lloyd Brazeau (Terri), Lorne Brazeau, Beverly Engle, Lyle Brazeau (Regina), Debbie Brazeau, Robert Brazeau (Clara), Sandra Brazeau (Gary) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. We will always remember Mom’s favourite quote, “call a spade a spade”. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The readers were Devona Venne and Charlene Harasyn and the cross bearer was Chad Venne. The pianist, Sharon Gerspacher and members of St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church Choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Be Not Afraid”, “Psalm 63”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles’s Wings”, “Song of the Angels” and “Amazing Grace”. The casket bearers were Kevin Engle, Bradley Venne, Owen Lafontaine, Blaine Flamont, Charles Engle and Keon Flamont. A private family cremation committal will take place at a later date. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. the back leads into the great room. The third entry opens into a corridor, with a coat closet nearby. The great room, with six large windows, will receive plenty of natural light, and features a wood-burning stove. The dining room, located in a bayed-out area, will also be full of light, thanks to windows on three sides. The kitchen is separated from the rest of the great-room area by an island with a three-seat eating bar.

An L-shaped counter configuration will save steps for the cook, who will also appreciate the roomy pantry. French doors open to the large patio that overlooks the front garden, making al fresco meals a breeze during the warmer months. Also on the main floor is a two-piece powder room, as well as the laundry room. Upstairs, the master suite occupies a dormer, so the ceiling slopes in two directions. The en-suite includes

Report improper work zones on Saskatchewan highways

Highway work zones are setting up across the province as the Government of Saskatchewan’s $1.1 billion Highways and Infrastructure budget is put into action. The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is working with crews to ensure work zones are set up correctly, while reminding the public that they can report missing or inappropriate signs. “If you encounter a work zone that is not set up properly or has signs blown over, please contact the ministry at 306244-5535,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said. “Please remember there is no reason to speed through a work zone.” Before driving into a Saskatchewan highway work zone, you will see an orange sign with a black image of a worker and the words “Workers Present.” This will be followed by a black and white speed sign of 60 km/hr. When approaching the end of a work zone, you will see a sign with the words “End of Work

Area.” This will be followed by another black and white sign, which indicates you can resume the posted maximum speed limit. There may be cases where there are hazards in the work zone, such as a sharp pavement drop or loose stones, which warrant keeping your speed at 60 km/hr even though workers are not present. Travellers should anticipate delays and plan ahead by checking the Highway Hotline at www.saskatchewan.ca/ highwayhotline. The weekly construction update is published on www.saskatchewan.ca/ residents/transportation/ highway-constructionprojects/weekly-highwayconstruction-update throughout the spring and summer months to provide the travelling public with the latest construction information. The Government of Saskatchewan has invested $7.4 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008, improving more than 12,000 km of Saskatchewan highways.
