CHESNEY - Gertrude “Kay (nee Baer) Chesney passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 16, 2016 in the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, Yorkton, SK. Kay was born August 22, 1918 on the family farm in the Rural Municipality of Grayson No. 184. Kay started school at Larson School south of Dubuc, SK. At a young age she worked as a domestic in the surrounding area. As a young woman, she had health problems and moved with relatives to Ontario, where she worked at various jobs from picking tobacco and fruit to sewing in a factory. She returned to Yorkton and started working at the Yorkton Union Hospital. Kay was united in marriage to John Chesney on November 14, 1945. They honeymooned at a bush camp at Reserve, SK. Kay and John bought land in the Good Hope district and started their own diversified family farm in 1946. They loved dancing at Barn dances, Lake dances, School dances and Seniors’ dances. Spring time was Kay’s best time of the year, planting an oversized garden and hatching or getting baby chicks. She loved having her grandchildren live close by, she loved to bake bread and buns and always had a good supply of perogies for them. Kay enjoyed cooking and always wanted you to have some more, but not to get fat. She was always interested in making every recipe a little healthier and finding a home remedy to cure almost every ailment. Kay belonged to clubs and groups such as the Hill Top Curling Club, Good Hope Ladies Club, Good Hope Recreational Co-operative and Yorkton Senior’s dance club. In 2007 Kay and John moved off the farm to Yorkton. In 2013, she was hospitalized and lived mainly at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in Yorkton until her passing. Predeceased by her husband, John in 2009; parents, John and Mary (nee Neumann) Baer; her brothers, Joe, Frank (Ann), George and sisters, Pauline (Joe) Reiger, Evelyn (John) Drefko, Mary, Betty (Bob) Whetstone; daughter-in-law, Patricia Chesney; parentsin-law, Ben and Hermina (nee Farkes) Chesney; step-mother, Elizabeth and two children, in infancy, Julia and Chester. Gertrude (Kay) leaves to celebrate her life: two sons, Garry and John (Joan); six grandchildren, Darlene (Allan) Schlechter, Corey (Jeanine), Marty (Heather), Andrea (Craig) Morris, Steven and Danielle; eight great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Jared (Allyssa), Dustin, Hudson, Hunter, Everet, Benjamin and Emma; three great-great-grandchildren, Kingston Dorosh, Kayle and Kase Schlecter; brother, Fred (Olga) Bahr; brother-in-law, Earl; sisters-in-law, Evelyn, Beverley, Cathrine “Kitty as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Taylor officiating. Special taped music selections included, “Just a Closer Walk With Thee as sung by Loretta Lynn, “How Great Thou Art as sung by Carrie Underwood and “The Old Rugged Cross as sung by Leanne Rimes. Kay’s great-grandson, Hunter Chesney shared a poetic tribute, her grandson, Marty Chesney shared words of tribute and eulogy and memories were shared by members of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home Staff. The closing hymn was a solo by Kay’s granddaughter, Danielle Chesney who sang “Amazing Grace. Following a reception in the Waldron Hall, the Cremation Committal took place in the Waldron Cemetery, Waldron, SK. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. WARD - Anna Ward was born in Nove Sove, Yugoslavia on January 6, 1922. She was the daughter of Anna and Michael Heintz, a tailor by trade, and a sister to Joseph. At age eight, Anna moved with her parents to Canada, settling in Yorkton, where Michael set up his own tailor shop. Anna attended Simpson and Victoria Schools from grades one to eight, then the Yorkton Collegiate Institute where she finished grade 12. Anna had a happy childhood growing up and especially enjoyed playing the violin. She was a member of the Yorkton Orchestra and was asked to join Professor George’s Orchestra, where she played second violin, quite an honour at the time. After graduation Anna was hired by International Harvester as a stenographer. There she met her future husband, Joseph Ward, an accountant. The couple were married in November of 1947. They then moved to Saskatoon. Only six months after they were married, Joseph passed away suddenly. After Joe’s passing Anna moved to Calgary and began working for International Harvester there. When her mother had a stroke Anna moved back to Yorkton to care for her aging parents. She found employment at York Auto, working for Keith Harper. She worked at York Auto until her retirement. Anna loved doing handiwork, a skill passed on from her parents. She made many different crafts as well as sewing, crocheting, tatting and painting. She sewed dolls and crocheted many small angels. Anna also enjoyed travelling, she had spent a month in Hawaii one year and had enjoyed every moment. In April of 2005 Anna moved to make her home at the Bentley. She enjoyed her time there until becoming a resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home in November of 2012. Anna passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016. She was 94 years of age. Predeceased by her husband Joseph, her parents Michael and Anna Heintz, her sister-in-law Vera and her brother Joe Heintz. She will be sadly missed by her niece Debbie, her great-nephew Jamie, her great-niece Tara, her great-great-nephew Paxton, great-great-niece Brynlee and nephew-in-law Roger and cousins in BC and Germany. Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Anna’s life on Thursday, June 30 at 2:00pm at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. In memory of Anna Ward, memorials to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.

PLAN NUMBER 1-3663 ATTRACTIVE FAMILY HOME An unfinished basement is included in the plans for this attractive family home, designed so the two-vehicle garage, laundry room and a covered entry are set at an angle from the main building and form a partial courtyard. The front door is protected by a porch, always welcome in bad weather, and leads into a spacious foyer. A coat closet is ahead and to the left, opposite the stair-

way to the basement. To the right are two display cases, ideal for collectibles. Directly ahead, through a squared archway, the great room features a fireplace and sliding doors to the partly-covered sundeck. The dining area is tucked into a niche with large windows that also look out to the sundeck. The kitchen is separated from the dining area and great room by a work island. Natural light will come in through the window above the double sink, and the L-shaped

counter configuration will save steps for the cook. A roomy walkin pantry will provide always-welcome extra storage space. The laundry room is conveniently close to the kitchen and across the corridor from a powder room. Nearby is an entryway with a handy closet, adjacent to the double garage, which includes another doorway on the opposite side. In the sleeping wing, the master bedroom is located at the back of the home for privacy, and includes a walk-in clos-

et as well as a spacious ensuite with double basins and a soaker tub, as well as a shower stall. The second and third bedrooms share a threepiece bath. The third bedroom overlooks the front garden and enjoys an extra-deep sill that would make a cozy window seat. Ceilings on the main floor all measure nine feet. Exterior finishes include stucco, painted pilasters with cut-stone bases, and board-andbatten accents in the gables. Decorative garage doors and painted trim add a touch of elegance. This home measures 78 feet, six inches wide by 72 feet, nine inches deep. Plans for design 1-3663 are available for $835(set of 5), $900 (set of 8) and $952 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges. Winter in summer Unchecked, tent caterpillars, the larval stage of the North American Moth, can devastate trees, such as these completely denuded examples at Wiggly Field, Yorkton’s offleash dog park. The caterpillar infestation in Yorkton and the province was particularly significant this year due to the mild winter and hot, early spring. Outbreaks generally occur every 10 to 15 years and last three to six years. The Ministry of Agriculture indicates this might be the second year in an infestation cycle.

workplace pension plan. “Pooled Registered Pension Plans will provide Saskatchewan workers with another option to save money for retirement,â€? Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant said. “These plans will be very accessible and will be offered at a low cost to plan members. I am pleased that Saskatchewan is able to be part of a multilateral agreement which will pave the way for employers to set up a pooled registered pension plan for their employees.â€? The agreement between the Governments of Canada, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Quebec and Nova Scotia, and the AutoritĂŠ des marchĂŠs financiers will simplify the licensing and registration process for PRPPs, making it easier for them to be offered. The new savings tool is a voluntary, largescale type of pension plan that pools contributions from employees of many different employers together to achieve lower costs for investment management and plan administration. A corporation which holds a licence issued by the federal government will be able to sell PRPPs to Saskatchewan residents without having to get a licence here. PRPP administrators are responsible for the design and operation of each PRPP. Once an employer has joined a PRPP, its employees will be enrolled (with the option to opt out) so they can take advantage of the retirement savings option.
