WRUTH - Jack Wruth of Yorkton, aged 67, left this world peacefully with his family at his side on September 7, 2017. Jack (Robert John) Wruth was born in Gainsborough, SK on April 28, 1950 to Russell and Ethel Wruth. He was the second oldest of four children. During his youth he worked the family farm with his Dad, learning many life principles, took jobs around his home town, Carievale, SK and finished high school. He left home in 1968 and worked at the Weyburn Mental Health Centre where he became a student and met Arlene Vidomsky. He graduated as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in 1972 and moved to Prince Albert with Arlene after their wedding on June 23, 1972. In 1974 Jack left nursing and moved to Regina to work for a pharmaceutical company until moving to Springside in 1976. Jack managed the Muffler & Shock Shop but was an entrepreneur at heart. In 1982 he opened the Midas Muffler Shop in Yorkton and proceeded to open two additional locations in Brandon, MB and Moose Jaw, SK. Jack was a businessman and more importantly a family man. During these early years he proudly welcomed the arrival of his daughter, Andrea and son, James. After selling three Midas shops, consulting with the Business Development Bank of Canada and selling for Case IH, Jack found his calling and joined Re/Max Reality in 1992 as a Commercial Real Estate Agent. He could always see future potential whether in business, finance or people and was happy to have the opportunity to purchase the Re/Max franchise in 2005. Since then the brokerage has grown from 5 to nearly 40 people and has won countless awards as a brokerage and as individuals; most notably Top Brokerage Western Canada, Top Brokerage Canada, Recruiter of the Year and Brokerage of the Year (Re/Max small market). What was most important to Jack was seeing people succeed. Jack’s success came from lifting others and his wish in life came true: He brought people together. Jack once wrote, “I have a monumental wish; to gather decent, hardworking, ethical and generous people together to work cooperatively where everyone wins, prospers, takes pride in themselves and drives each other forward. We are on a journey together that will not end when we do.” Jack never passed up an opportunity to be with family and friends whether that was hunting, fishing, travelling, talking, listening, playing games or any adventure that took him outdoors. From children to grandparents, no one was excluded. Family gatherings included many friends who were thought of as family and were times filled with fun, food, card games, jokes, costumes and the occasional skit. He loved surprising his grandchildren with many special gifts. He was exceptionally generous. When asked to describe Jack, words are not enough. He was a man of principle and integrity. Doing things the right way - all the way - and doing ones very best was his way. Jack was patient, calm, resilient, resourceful, fearless, trusting, charismatic, responsible and a pillar of strength. He was a storyteller, a teacher, a coach, a golfer, a Santa Claus, a strategist, a Boy Scout leader, a visionary for change, an entrepreneur, a curler, an advisor and a man of a thousand jokes. He was a respectful son, the greatest dad, a giving husband, a wonderful grandfather, an excellent uncle, a trusting son-in-law, an affectionate brother and a smart business partner. He had a way of motivating others and seeing the best in them. Jack loved a good conversation and the warmth of a good meal. In 1995 Jack was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Primary Biliary Cirrhosis. Most did not know of his condition because throughout his difficult medical journey he maintained his dignity, stayed steadfast, determined, good humoured, patient and hopeful. He was a survivor. Jack is survived by his daughter Andrea (Toni) Ivan and grandchildren Samantha and Alexander, son James (Colleen) Wruth and grandchildren Gabrielle, Charlotte and Julia, sister Carol Harder, sister Mary Ellen (Larry) Benjamin, former wife Arlene Wruth and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Jack is predeceased by his parents Russell Llewellyn and Ethel Anna (nee Campbell) Wruth, in-laws Elsie and Frank Vidomsky, brother Gordon, brother-in-law Abe Harder, exceptional friend Gary Ladner, grandparents and many aunts and uncles. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Jen Dresser of St. Andrew’s United Church officiating. A eulogy was conveyed by Mary Ellen Benjamin and a scripture reading was presented by Mark Harder. Included in the service were musical selections, ‘What a Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong and ‘My Way’ by Frank Sinatra. Serving as urn bearers were Angela Charlebois and Ryan Benjamin. The interment will take place at a later date. Memorials honouring Jack’s life may be made to The Health Foundation of East Central Saskatchewan, 41 Betts Ave., Yorkton, SK S3N 1M1. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.

GERHARDT - Fern Gerhardt, of William Albert House, Emerald Park, widow of the late Carl Gerhardt, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the age of 90 years. Fern (Kohl) Gerhardt was born January 5, 1927, to William and Katie Kohl of Neudorf. Fern grew up in Neudorf with her two sisters, Iris and Opal. After graduating from Neudorf High School, her dream was to become a nurse; unfortunately, due to health issues with her dad, she remained at home and helped with their home business as a telephone operator until she was united in marriage to Carl Gerhardt June 12, 1949. They moved to Carl’s homestead farm near Killaly and remained there until 1979 when they decided to move to Melville for retirement. When Fern lived on the farm, she was very involved in Killaly events. The love of curling and interaction with friends were her favourite. Fern volunteered during sports days, curling events, was a 4-H teacher for sewing and knitting for many years and a member of Killaly Ladies Aide. Later in life, she became a teacher’s aide for Killaly School, which she enjoyed tremendously. When they moved to Melville, Fern had a passion to volunteer at a disability centre in Melville, where she came to love all the residents, and many felt the same about her. She would frequently get visits and phone calls from some of them. Fern and Carl loved to travel and did get to see much of Canada and some other countries, plus the passion for the great outdoors led to many days of camping and fishing with family and friends. We will all cherish these good memories forever. Fern will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Fern was predeceased by her husband Carl in 1993 and a sister Opal Sapara. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory: sons Bryan Gerhardt of Esterhazy and his children Dean, Kris (Liz) and Kelly (Troy); Dale (Lorna) Gerhardt of Regina and their children Melanie (David), Jeff (Meeka) and Tanya; daughters Debra (Jerry) Markwart of Regina and their children Curtis (Crystal) and Rhegan (Eli); Penny Dubnyk (Perry) of Saskatoon and her children Sheldon (Tara Lee), Jessy and Tara; great-grandchildren Matthew and Sarah, Claire and Skylar; sister Iris Switzer of Regina, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Interment was in the Melville City Cemetery with Jeff Gerhardt, Curtis Markwart, Sheldon Dubnyk, Kris Gerhardt, Dean Gerhardt and Melanie Peters as active pall bearers. She was laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Carl. Arrangements were entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville.

BUCKLE - Dywaine Buckle was born on November 12, 1937 at the Yorkton General Hospital, the son of Dennis and Willa (nee Thompson). He was the middle child in a family of five children. To his siblings, he was always referred to as “Tiny” and that name has stayed with him to this day. Dywaine grew up on the family dairy farm six miles south on #9 Highway. He attended Pebble Lake School and Grade 8 at Simpson School in Yorkton. At this time, Dywaine made a decision to go farming with his father Dennis and brother Daniel. As a young man Dywaine enjoyed being an avid bird watcher. He was an excellent muskrat trapper and also loved to fish when he could. Dywaine enjoyed sports, especially playing baseball. He was a good pitcher for his team in the district and there were plenty of opposing teams in the district to compete with. Later in his life, curling was his sport. His team participated in bonspiels in Rokeby, Waldron and Yorkton. Dywaine, along with his brother Danny, enjoyed watching and cheering on their nephew, Donny Chesney Jr., who played hockey with the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires. Dywaine met his soulmate, Marjorie, and the couple were married on October 19, 1957. They were both 19 years of age. They were blessed with three children, son, Dennis born in 1958, son, David born in 1959 and daughter, Deborah, born in 1968. Dywaine and Marjorie took over Grampa Dennis’ dairy business and throughout the years expanded the business to a modern 60 plus dairy and grain farm. Dywaine and Marjorie took pride in their farm and to this day, the machine shed has clubs, diamonds, spades and hearts as ornaments for everyone to see driving by on #9 Highway - it is a classic sign post to everyone. Dywaine loved his Holstein cattle and his grain growing in the fields. In the fall of 2004, Dywaine and Marjorie decided to retire from the farm and settle down in Penticton, BC where some of the family were living. This retirement to BC lasted for 10 good years, however, Dywaine’s health slowly began to deteriorate and the decision was made to come back to Yorkton to live comfortably at the retirement home at Fairview Arms. Dywaine died in the Regina General Hospital on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1:03 pm due to complications from two major surgeries. PLAN OF THE WEEK
PLAN NUMBER 7-3868 SPACIOUS AND GRACIOUS Spacious and gracious, with plenty of curb appeal, this threebedroom family home contains all the conveniences and amenities that today’s homeowners desire. The entrance is set back under a covered porch, offering protection from the elements in inclement weather. To the left is an oldfashioned veranda that just needs the addition of a porch swing and a couple of pots of geraniums to maximize its potential. The L-shaped foyer includes a coat closet Apartments / Condos-For Sale
and a powder room, both conveniently located for guests. A triangular display shelf provides a setting for plants and ornaments. Overlooking the front veranda is a study or den that is ideally located for use as a home office. The family area is located at the rear of the home, overlooking a partially covered patio and the back garden. The generously sized great room, open to the foyer through a half-wall, boasts a ceiling that slopes up to the pitch of the roof. The great room’s fireplace will warm up winter evenings, and a doorway allows access to a covered patio that will Apartments / Condos-For Sale
expand the living area during the summertime. The kitchen, separated from the great room and dining room by an angled work island, features an L-shaped counter configuration designed to save steps. A pantry with three double doors runs along one side of the dining room, where doors open to the patio. On the other side of the home, located at the back for privacy, is the master suite. A roomy walk-in closet abuts the en-suite, which includes a shower stall as well as a bathtub. Also on the ground floor is the laundry room, with handy access to the double garage.

Province proclaims Women Day
The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed September 14, 2017, as Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Day. CFUW is a non-partisan, voluntary, non-governmental organization that works to improve the status of women and girls by promoting human rights, quality public education, justice and peace. There are CFUW clubs in every Canadian province with nearly 10,000 graduate, student and associate members. In Saskatchewan, CFUW has more than 170 members and operates in five cities: Prince Albert, Regina, Saskatoon, Estevan and Yorkton. “The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to recognize the work that the CFUW does to promote post-secondary education to women,” Advanced Education Minister Kevin Doherty said. “There are many benefits to a post-secondary education and I am pleased that the efforts of the CFUW will help support women pursuing their postsecondary studies in Saskatchewan.” “Advancing the rights of women and girls begins with improving access to education, and I am proud of the 170 Saskatchewan women who are committed to this work through CFUW,” Education Minister and Minister Responsible for the Status of Women Bronwyn Eyre said. “The scholarships and grants provided by CFUW empower the recipients, inspire Saskatchewan women and girls, and in turn, benefit the province as a whole.” “The CFUW Saskatchewan clubs are proud of their work in providing scholarships to women students in the province and appreciate that the work of our members is recognized by the Government of Saskatchewan,” CFUW Saskatchewan Regional Director Margaret Hendry said. “We aim to continue our work to support women in society.” CFUW Day was first proclaimed by the province in 2011 to recognize the importance of the post-secondary education, scholarships and grants provided by Saskatchewan CFUW clubs. Today, CFUW clubs in Saskatchewan provide approximately $40,000 in yearly scholarships to university and college students, and grants to music and science festivals, early learning centres and other community endeavours.
