KNOLL - Margaret Knoll of Yorkton, SK passed away peacefully while in Palliative Care at Jowsey House (Yorkton & District Nursing Home) in the early hours of Saturday, October 29, 2016. Margaret Knoll was a person to whom family was of paramount importance. As a sister, she valued the time she spent with her siblings and their families. As a stay at home mother, she provided a stable, loving environment. As a friend and community member, she was both supportive and caring. She was born, at home, in Tuberose, SK on August 15, 1927. Her father was working at a grain elevator at this time. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Prince Albert, SK. In 1933, they moved to Holbein, west of Prince Albert, where her father took over a farm. Margaret attended a small one room school until the family returned to Prince Albert in 1936 where she completed her public education. While still a teenager, Margaret lost her mother to cancer. Perhaps this is why she developed such a generous, nurturing spirit. She left home, after graduating from high school, to work at Fort San with tuberculosis patients. After one year there, she entered the nursing program in Yorkton and three years later, in 1949, she graduated with a diploma in nursing. During those years of nurses’ training, Margaret attended First Baptist Church where she met a young teacher and choir member - M. Cliff Knoll. Love was in the air and they married shortly after her graduation in 1949. Margaret had a marvellous pure soprano voice that went well with her husband’s rich bass. They often sang in mixed quartets on the radio. The couple moved to Melville where they lived for three years as Cliff had a teaching position and Margaret worked in a doctor’s office. They returned to Yorkton when Cliff was offered a promotion and this is where they spent the rest of their lives. They raised two sons, Sheldon and Arden, while continuing to participate in church and community. Margaret was a very resilient individual. In her later years, she was forced to learn new banking skills as well as the myriad of methods for coping with life as a widow. She moved from her house and into a suite in Independent Manor. There, she formed new friendships, learned new games and both participated in and contributed to, as many activities as she could. Margaret was always up to taking on a new challenge whether it was flying on her own to Kelowna or learning to use an electronic tablet and email in her 80’s. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Minard and Rosella Anderson, as well as her brothers, Bill and Elmer. She is survived by her sister, Anna Moon of Ottawa, ON; brothers, Jack (Lois) of Oakville, ON and Orton (Jesse) of Brandon, MN; sister-inlaw, Peggy of Dundas, ON; sons Sheldon (Jean) Knoll of Yorkton, SK and Arden (Sandra) of Kelowna, BC and two grandsons, Taylor of Kelowna and Brett of St. Paul, AB. Margaret truly loved life despite its numerous twists and turns. She had the ability to live one day at a time and not worry about the future. She would want to remember each person who blessed her life and to thank each one for their friendship, so thank you all on her behalf and may you meet again. In accordance with Margaret’s wishes, a private family service will take place at a later date. Gestures in remembrance can be made to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. KOLEBABA - Ann Mary Kolebaba passed away peacefully at the Gladstone Seniors Residence, Yorkton, SK on October 28, 2016 at the age of 89. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and friends. Ann was born on February 8, 1927 at her grandfather’s homestead near Killaly, SK. Ann was the second daughter and third child of Frank and Sophie (nee Neuman) Thiele. She was christened in the Roman Catholic Church as Anna Maria. When Ann was two years old her family moved to Bangor, SK. She later received her schooling at Marvin School, near Bangor. Ann completed Grade 7 and started into Grade 8 when her parents convinced her to stay home to help her mom who was having health concerns. At the age of 13, Ann stayed and helped a neighbour with milking cows and feeding chickens and then she would run to school. Ann was very lonely for her family even though they lived just over a mile away. Before she reached the age of 20 she had worked for six other families, so hard work was no stranger to her. On July 7, 1947 Ann was confirmed in the Catholic Church at Bangor, SK where she received the additional name of Elizabeth as her confirmation sponsor’s name was Elizabeth (Betty) Varga. Ann met George Kolebaba at a barn dance and they hit it off right away. On July 30, 1949 Ann married George, the love of her life and her best friend. They were married in the old Greek Orthodox Church in Yorkton. They made their home on a farm near Saltcoats, SK and were blessed with four children. Ann and her children attended Sunday school at Crescent School No. 110. This was where her children attended public school. In August 1968, as a family, they joined the United Church in Saltcoats, SK. In the fall of 1983, Ann and George moved to Yorkton. In 1985 Ann took GED classes at the Regional High School in Yorkton and she wrote exams and received a diploma equivalent to Grade 12. Her grade marks were in the upper one-third across Canada. Ann and George continued farming until 1987, at which time they began renting out the land. Ann officially retired from farming in 2001 and passed the farm to her children. In 2007, Ann sold the house on Deerwood Crescent, Yorkton, SK and moved into a Heritage Senior Housing unit on 7th Avenue North in Yorkton, where she thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the friends she made and also enjoyed participating in the activities in the community room. Ann was hospitalized the last week of September for three weeks and upon being released moved into assisted living at the Gladstone Seniors Residence on Dunlop Street West in Yorkton, where she resided until her passing. Ann was a very loving and caring person. Family meant everything to her and always remained her priority in life. She loved family gatherings and visiting with friends and her extended family at the Heritage Senior Housing unit. Ann was always crocheting an item for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren or soon-to-be-born great-grandchildren. Ann was an avid gardener and was active in the community, going to dances and playing cards. She also curled until she was almost 80. Ann was predeceased by her husband, George; parents, Frank and Sophie Thiele; brothers, Ben, Ed, Walter and Ewald; sister, Mary Roberts; grandson, Scotty Creelman and sonin-law, Doug Begin. She leaves to celebrate her life, one son, Gordon (Gail); three daughters, Joyce (Dean) Rogers, Beverley (Ron) Creelman, and Sharon (Nelson) Saunders; 10 grandchildren, Shane (Billie) Kolebaba, Brendan Kolebaba (Kayla Zieske), Keith Begin, Curtis (Crissy) Begin, Colleen (Stephen) Leeson, Kiley Jennings, Gillian (Kevin) Roberts, Larissa (Steven) Cox, Tyler Saunders and Tanice (Brandon) Mackie; 16 greatgrandchildren, two brothers, Ferdie and Ernie and one sister, Helen Ludwar; numerous nephews and nieces, other relatives and many good friends. A Service to Celebrate Ann’s Life was held on Friday, November 4, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home with Walter Farquharson presiding. The organist, Ruth Datema, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “In Christ There is No East or West”, “One Day at a Time” and “How Great Thou Art”. Family members gave the readings and shared words of tribute and eulogy. The recessional music was a taped selection, “I Can Only Imagine” sung by Mercy Me. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Shane Kolebaba, Brendan Kolebaba, Steven Cox, Curtis Begin, Kevin Roberts and Tyler Saunders serving as the casket bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

October 29, 2016 at the age of 76 years. Harvey met the love of his life Iris and they were blessed with four children. Harvey was a successful entrepreneur, along with the family farm he created a successful business with his sons. In Harvey’s early years he served on many community boards and was involved with various sporting teams and was also an avid curler. If you ever came to visit there was always some type of sporting event Harvey was watching. When he was unable to curl he enjoyed watching curling and attending local curling events. Each spring Harvey and Iris travelled to Las Vegas and in the summer enjoyed their trips to Dauphin Country Fest and Craven Country Jamboree with family and friends. Saturday nights were reserved for dancing. Harvey and Iris attended many country halls where they enjoyed dancing with their friends. MEYER - Arthur Edwy, September 7, 1927 - October 31, 2016. Arthur E. Meyer left us quietly and with grace Monday, October 31, 2016. With his usual great humour he chose Halloween to depart to a better place. “Wonderful glorious father” will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 65 years, Vivi-Ann and his five children Terry, Nancy, Danny, Laura and JAK and the ‘outlaws’ Andrew, Jim, Bea, Frank and Janice, as well as numerous loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends. The Bridge Club will have a new member in heaven today. Art leaves a legacy of achievement. His first career was as professional hockey player with the Saskatoon Quakers of the Western Canada Hockey League from 1949-1951. He married his high school sweetheart Vivi-Ann in 1951 and chose to get a real job with Hi-Way Refineries to support his growing family. He moved on to Royalite Oil and then to Associated Engineering. Art was a visionary in the field of alternate fuels, instrumental in developing ethanol fuels with RDC Research and Development and then Mohawk Oil. He loved his bee farm in Rollyview and rolling up his sleeves in the garden or vineyard. He leaves big shoes to fill as a man of integrity, faith, courage and humour. Art found time to be a Director/Board Member of the Calgary Booster Club, University of Calgary Board of Governors, The Glencoe Club, Consulting Engineers of Canada, The Canadian Renewable Fuels Association, Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Aventura Energy Inc., National Biotechnology Committee, a Trustee of First Baptist Church Foundation, a member of the Men’s Chorus and President of the Open Door Seniors Fellowship. Art was in charge of rural campaigning for Premier Peter Lougheed’s first sweep to power and second term in government and he was proud to contribute to a Province he loved. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church (1311 4 Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. If you so choose, Art would be honoured by a donation to the charity of your choice or to the interdenominational Open Door Fellowship (1311 4 Street SW, Calgary, AB T2R 0K4) where he worked tirelessly to provide a place for seniors to gather. The pleasant temperatures of the last week or so have made stepping out in the evening a bit of a pleasure compared to our wet, windy October. You would think this would bode well for the normally dependable Leonid shower peak (November 16-17), but bad timing dictates that best days of the shower occur during bright moonlight. So, catching a few nice meteorites this season will be something that happens when you’re out looking at something else. Feed & Seed

Speaking of our overly bright satellite, the Full Moon of November 14th will be at its closest and brightest until the one on November 25th, 2034, so, you guessed it: it’s our newest ‘Supermoon’. Well, don’t run out and cash in your life savings, or bundle the family into the basement just yet. It will be a little bigger and brighter, but not enough that you would have noticed had nobody mentioned it. In fact, I’m sorry I did. Again. A few weeks ago I swore I’d ignore all future Supermoon announcements. This time I mean it, at least until 2034. Clear November nights are much better spent checking out some of the sky’s more interesting objects, and we’ll run through a number of those over the following weeks. However, you have to know where to look, so to get you there, we’ll utilize a set of tools that most people already own... their hands. Extend your arm in front of you. Make a fist, then stick out your little finger. Your pinkie is one degree across, or two Moon diameters (yes, the Moon’s that small). Put your index, middle

and ring fingers together. That’s five degrees, the depth of the Big Dipper’s bowl. Now, make that fist again; ten degrees, the distance across the bowl. Extend your index and pinkie like a set of rabbit ears. That’s fifteen degrees, the length of the handle. Finally, spread out all five fingers. That’s 25 degrees, the diameter of the entire Big Dipper. Of course, that all depends on the size of your hands (my handspan is about 22 degrees), but it’s a good general guide. It’s also good to practice this at night in your own back yard where the neighbours can’t see you. Where this comes in handy is that one day soon I will tell you that the Great Square of Pegasus is 15 degrees on a side, and it will mean something. Similarly, when you tell me that the shooting star you saw travelled 75 degrees, I will be impressed by your scientific knowledge and astronomical prowess. Understanding distance in the sky opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for you as you learn to navigate across the universe from your own back yard.

testing this hunting season. CWD is a disease that affects the nervous system of deer, elk and moose, and while infected animals may appear healthy for more than a year before signs appear, it is a fatal disease for these animals. Although there is no evidence of CWD impacts on humans at this time, the potential is uncertain. The World Health Organization, Health Canada and Ministry of Health recommend hunters not eat any animals known to be infected with CWD, and as such the need for testing is imperative. Hunters should also take precautions when field dressing and processing animals. To help encourage hunters to participate in CWD testing, the SWF will offer a draw for six pairs of binoculars. Simply turn in heads to any Ministry of Environment field office and your name will be entered into the draw. Hunters can help slow the spread of CWD by not introducing the disease to new areas of the province by not leaving gut piles on site and properly dispose of carcasses and meat from CWD-infected animals. By helping to monitor for CWD, hunters will help maintain the health of Saskatchewan’s wildlife population for generations to come. For a listing of field offices, http://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/directory, and for information on CWD, visit www.swf.sk.ca/resources/ forhunters/chronic-wasting-disease-cwd. Auctions
