ELLIOTT - It is with heavy hearts we mourn the peaceful passing of Maureen Elliott (nee Debnam) on January 17, 2017 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, SK. Maureen was born in Yorkton, SK on April 6, 1966, eldest child of Pat and Brenda (nee Vallance) Debnam of Churchbridge, SK. Maureen took all of her schooling in Churchbridge, learning to write with her left hand when her right was injured on the farm. Maureen enjoyed volleyball, synchronized swimming and working as a lifeguard and swimming instructor. Maureen’s friends can attest to her lively social life and have many stories to share. After high school, Maureen had many life experiences, living in Saskatoon, Yorkton and Churchbridge. She went to university, worked at swimming pools, obtained her certificate in computer-aided drafting and cared for Aunt Kay. Maureen eventually settled in Regina and met the love of her life, Randy Elliott (“My Randy”). Maureen and Randy were married on March 4, 2015 in Cuba. As a couple they couldn’t stay home on Randy’s days off. Their favourite places were sandy beaches and high mountains, or any place a niece or nephew was playing sports. Sadly, Randy passed away on November 1, 2015. Maureen was happiest when baking for others (especially as Lead Pastry Chef for K+S pipefitters), tending her tomato and herb garden and making people laugh. She loved watching NASCAR racing every Sunday, shopping with her nieces and being “The Favourite Aunty”. Maureen will live forever in our hearts. She leaves to celebrate her life, her parents, Pat and Brenda Debnam; sister, Rhonda (Scott); brother, Russell (Marilyn); and her nieces and nephews, Aaron, Alyssa, Logan, Hilary, Hudson, Amber, Brynn and Wade; father-in-law, Wayne; and brother-in-law Rob (Connie) as well as many other relatives and good friends. A Service to Celebrate Maureen’s life was held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Kathy Novak officiating. Special taped music selections included, “Seasons in the Sun” by Terry Jacks, “The Dance” by Garth Brooks and “Sissy’s Song” by Alan Jackson. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Marilyn Debnam, Scott Bolt, Connie Elliott, Sharon Shore and Wayne Elliott. The urn bearer was Russell Debnam. Maureen and Randy will be interred in the North Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery in Preeceville, SK at a later date. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. GORECKI - Donna Rae Gorecki was born on a Sunday morning July 22, 1962 to Norma & Norman Lutcher and passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord Jesus on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Donna was born & raised in her favourite city, Yorkton, attending Simpson School, St. Joe’s & graduating in the Class of 1980 from YRHS. Her formative years inspired her passion for teaching and she furthered her education with University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a Bachelor of Education in 1984. Donna began her teaching career at the Christian Academy (Orcadia, SK) and responded to many teaching assignments in the Yorkton School District, including Dr. Brass, Simpson School, Columbia School, St. Joe’s, Composite Jr High, YRHS and the Rhein & Calder Schools. Whenever the call came, Donna was eager to teach and share her love of education. Donna met the love of her life, David Gorecki, in 1988 at the Pine Unit, YUH. David advised her at that time that she was his intended and that he was going to marry her. Donna, at that time, wished him luck.... David gently but persuasively pursed and they were joined in Holy Matrimony, August 22, 1992. Sunday, the day of her passing, marked their 24 year 5 month wedding anniversary. Each and every day of Donna and David’s life together was blessed, they were soulmates and rarely without each other’s company. Their love and commitment to each other is a testament to the sanctity of their union. Throughout Donna’s life journey, she was an avid sports fan, intently following The Yorkton Terriers, The Yorkton Maulers, The Yorkton Cardinals, The Saskatchewan Roughriders, The U of S Huskies hockey and football teams, The Regina Rams, The Saskatoon Valkyries (women’s football), The Toronto Blue Jays and most avidly, the Montreal Canadiens. As well, Donna followed all of the minor sports teams, joining with David at all games, enthusiastically cheering them to victory and often providing a precise sportscast and post-cap of each game. In her early years, Donna was a champion at baseball, hockey and trapshooting. She forged the way for many female athletes looking to excel at sports that were traditionally for men only. She began her early involvement as “Sam”, Robert’s little brother. Fortunately, she had a father that believed in equality and the first female hockey team, the Leopards was organized and played a couple of seasons at the Yorkton Kinsmen Arena. Donna later went on to the U of S Huskies hockey team until knee injuries benched her. Throughout her teen and young adult years she competed at the local, provincial and national levels for trapshooting, successfully winning the titles at every level. Community promotion guided Donna into the next chapter of her life, about ten years ago, when she took a career change into the hospitality industry. The years she had spent at the Day’s Inn, meeting and introducing travelers to Yorkton, accommodating families and sports teams have been some of the happiest of her life. Donna found joy and contentment and had flourished in their family environment. Donna’s faith was profound throughout her life. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church and renewed her faith through Grace Bible Baptist in her late twenties, leading to her current faith family at the Parkland Community Church. Donna rejoiced in the Word of God and compassionately shared bible messages of hope, faith and love. She practiced the living word. Donna will be remembered by her many nieces and nephews and great-niece and nephews who spent many, many occasions with her and David at all of their celebrations, life and sports events and their notoriously “surprise” visits which they would plan and giggle about for weeks before arrival. Donna treated everyone she met with love and acceptance, eagerly welcoming them into her family. A family she created of family, step-family, extended family, friends, friends of friends, fur-friends, teams and community. She leaves a legacy of: All Inclusive, Continual Growth, Consistent Love, Hope and Encouragement. Prayers were held on Thursday evening, January 26, 2017. The funeral service was held on Friday afternoon, January 27, 2017 all from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorkton. Rev. Brian Ray of the Parkland Community Church officiated, with Rev. Heike Toeller of St. Paul Church assisting. Tributes to Donna were given by John Anderson, Shawna Allan and David Gorecki. Elaine Lutcher and John Anderson read Scripture. Pianist, Jolene Cherland led members of the congregation in the hymns ‘The Love of God’, ‘Saviour Like A Shepherd Lead Us’, ‘What A Day That Will Be’, ‘A Mighty Fortress Is Our God’ (with trumpet accompaniment by Cindy Burham). Soloist, Ray Yost sang ‘Precious Lord, Take My Hand’. The processional was ‘In The Arms of An Angel’, the recessional was ‘On the Wings of A Snow White Dove’. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Carter & Oliver Hansen, Dean & Mervin Woroschuk, Dan Rose and Randy Gorecki serving as the casket bearers. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Society, or to one’s charity of choice.

STATCHUK - Anne Statchuk, beloved wife of the late Robert Statchuk, passed away at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on January 23, 2017, at the age of 84 years. Anne was born on April 2, 1932 to Teofil and Molly (Polichuk) Kucy in Welland, ON. She was the youngest of four children and thus grew up with three older brothers. Anne received her elementary and high school education in Welland and attended one year of boarding school in Toronto. She often recalled this year to be the most memorable and had many stories to share with her family. After high school Anne worked as a secretary in various positions. She also helped at home financially after her father passed away. On May 24, 1958 Anne married the love of her life, Robert Statchuk. While still in Toronto the couple were blessed with two children, Rosanne and Tracy. In 1962 the family relocated to the Buchanan, SK area. As a family they met the many challenges of grain farming operations and raising cattle. Robert and Anne were blessed with two more children, Curt and Jeremy and together they worked hard to maintain the farm and raise their four children. In addition to helping with the farm work Anne gardened, raised chickens and milked cows; however, she always made time to spend with her family. She nurtured and provided for her children and created many opportunities for them to make memories together. As a family they enjoyed Sunday picnics at the lake in the summer and many suppers with relatives on weekends. Anne always maintained a large, bountiful garden which she loved and found the task therapeutic. Baking was an additional passion for her. Her specialties were her delicious donuts and bread. Her grandchildren were always excited and full of anticipation for her terrific homemade buns. A devoted Catholic, Anne was very involved with the church as a member as well as in the role of president of the ladies’ association, a position she took very seriously. In 2007 Robert and Anne decided to sell the farm and move to Canora where Anne greatly enjoyed working with the Ukrainian Catholic Church Ladies Auxiliary. After three years, Robert’s health began to fail, which prompted a relocation to Victoria Court in Yorkton where Anne continued to reside until her passing. Although Anne loved living in Yorkton she always had a longing for the farm. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Teofil and Molly; husband, Robert; son, Tracy and her brother, Alex. She is lovingly remembered by her children: Rosanne (Don) Brezinski of Yorkton, Curt (Adele) of Golden, BC and Jeremy of Unity, SK; her grandchildren: Jesse Brezinski of Calgary, AB, Rylan (Toni) Brezinski of Penhold, AB, Haley (Dan) Gignac of Saskatoon, SK, Brandyn Statchuk of Kelowna, BC and Reid Statchuk of Golden, BC and her brothers, Emil (Velma) of Fenwick, ON and Zane of Hamilton, ON; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Thank you to Father Bohdan, Father Ray and Father Lillis for preparing Betty so well for her journey and for supporting her family. There is a garage for a single vehicle. Exterior finishes include horizontal siding with brick accents and painted trim. Wooden shingles in the gables provide contrast.
