SCHATTENKIRK - Mr. Robert ‘Bob’ Schattenkirk of Yorkton, beloved husband of Audrey Schattenkirk passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was 77 years of age. Bob was born February 28, 1939 in Regina and at a young age was moved to Yorkton in the care of his extended family. He lived his childhood and teenage years in Yorkton until the completion of Grade 10, when he was dispatched to Vancouver serving for the Canadian Navy. After two years of service Bob returned to his hometown where he met the love of his life, Audrey. The two wed shortly thereafter in 1960. In the coming years Bob’s family grew to include his three sons: Dean, Dale and Dana. Bob’s work has been vast and memorable over the years, he has had his hand in most everything around Yorkton. After returning from the Navy and settling down, he worked as a Baker at McGavin’s for 5 years. Despite his time there his culinary skills still could not rival Audreys. Afterwards, Bob found his niche, woodwork. For the next 25 years he worked for SAIL (formerly SCCCA) teaching woodworking skills to people of special needs. His work took him between Yorkton and Melville; where he impacted both communities. Many of us can recall Bob reminiscing and telling stories of “when I was at the workshop”. Continuing his love for woodworking, he built his own contracting business, taking on anything from building a deck to finishing work. If you had a job, Bob could do it. Bob gave back to his community whenever he could. For 20 years he volunteered at Parkland College teaching English to immigrants in order to aid in their transition to life in Canada. Bob contributed to Scouts Canada for over 15 years in various levels, teaching many young children, including his three boys, valuable skills. When Bob was not working or volunteering he pursued his many hobbies. His true passion was indeed woodworking, spending his free time making small projects and carving. Bob and his wife were avid travellers, they have been to almost every corner of Canada carting around their boler trailer, stopping at all the sights along the way. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, hosting many holidays at their house just to get everyone together. The centerpiece of these holidays, most notably Christmas, is Bob and Audrey’s elaborate Christmas village that took over their living room during the winter months. Bob has been predeceased by all of his parents, brothers and sisters. Bob is survived and remembered by his loving wife of 56 years, Audrey; son Dean (Teresa), grandchildren Tishina (Mike) and Elena, great-grandchild Frederik; son Dale (Christy), grandchildren Joshua and Zachary; son Dana (Ronda) and grandchild Benjamin. He will also be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, their family members and many friends. A Memorial Service was held Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home in Yorkton with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. The eulogy was presented by Gordon Ross. The taped hymn, ‘Rock of Ages’ was the processional and ‘Amazing Grace’ played by piper, Fern Katzberg as the recessional. The interment took place in the Garden of Memories at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Joshua Schattenkirk as the urn bearer. Memorials in memory of Bob may be made to the Lung Association as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.

ZAHARIA - Mr. Dan Zaharia, husband of Veronica “Vern” Zaharia, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, Yorkton, SK. He was 87 years of age. Dan was born on February 9, 1929 in Canora, SK, the son of John and Pauline (nee Kunetski) Zaharia. He grew up in the village of Hamton and attended school in the district. Dan left home at an early age to make his way in the world and started working at the bush camps in Ontario. He made his way back to the prairies, first to work in a creamery in Winnipeg, MB then to Yorkton to build homes with his Dad. Eventually he found a job hauling milk with horse and buggy and often joked that as tired as he was at the end of a long day, the horse was even more exhausted as it knew just how to rush back to the barn! In 1953, Dan met Vern Burant and they were united in marriage on October 23, 1954. The couple were blessed with three children, Ken, Nancy and Sherri. In 1957, Dan began a career as a travelling salesman for MacDonalds Consolidated - and boy did he travel - all over the province to sell to grocery stores, restaurants and gas stations! He worked for the company for 38 years before retiring in 1995. After his retirement he helped Vern with her home daycare. He also helped his children by babysitting his grandchildren and Grampa’s specialty for lunch was hot dogs and Kraft dinner! Dan would often laugh about the things the children did and said, “kids, kids, kids...”. In his younger years, Dan enjoyed golf, was part of a bowling league and curled. When his children came along, he could be found at the rink or ball diamonds cheering them on. His children also have many happy memories of family camping trips. Dan attended Yorkton Terrier hockey games, truly he loved all sports. And when he got cable television and could watch all the games, all from the comfort of his own chair, he loved it! Dan was predeceased by his parents, John and Pauline Zaharia; his sisters, Mary and Lena and his parents-in-law, Apolinary and Theresa Burant. He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his loving wife, Vern (they would have celebrated 62 year of marriage on October 23, 2016); his son, Ken (Jennifer) and his children, Jordan (Christa) and Haley (Nathan) and their mother, Jacki; his daughter, Nancy (David) and their children, Garett (Tracy and their children, Braden, Evan and Alexis, Jason (Chantelle and their children, Taylor, Jordan, Emma and Tegan; his daughter, Sherri (Rodney) and their children, Tyler, Brittany, Troy (Amber and their children, Nixon, Karver and Paisley), Courtney (Matthew). NOTICE OF POLL Public notice is hereby given that a poll has been granted for the election of:

Board Member- Good Spirit School Division No. 204 Subdivision No. 4 (Representing the incorporated area of the Villages of Calder, Ebenezer, MacNutt, Rhein and Theodore, the Town of Springside and associated rural areas) And that voting will take place on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the polling places listed below, and that I will, at the Division Office, 63 King Street East Yorkton, Saskatchewan, on the 27th day of October, 2016, at the hour of 1:00 p.m., declare the result of the election. PLAN NUMBER 1-2668 SENSE OF AIRY ELEGANCE This compact twobedroom home, designed for a lot that slopes to the back, includes an unfinished basement in its plans, ideal as a mortgage-helper or inlaw suite. The covered entry leads into a foyer with a 15-foot ceiling, lit by a narrow window in the gable above. Directly ahead is the great room, where the 11-foot ceiling lends a sense of airy elegance. Large windows look out to a covered deck and the back garden beyond. The gas fireplace is flanked by built-in shelving. Adjacent, and open to the great room, is the dining area, with nine-foot ceilings and windows on two sides, allowing for plenty for natural light. The kitchen is separated from the dining area and great room by a work island and eating bar. A spacious pantry is tucked in at one end of the efficient L-shaped

counter configuration, which will save steps for the cook. The laundry room includes a coat closet and enjoys access to the double garage, which features a doorway to the side garden. The master suite, overlooking the back of the home, is reached through an archway from the great room. A display case provides an ideal spot for showing off collectibles. The extra-large en-suite includes an oval tub set at an angle to save space, and the toilet is enclosed. Double basins and a shower stall complete the lay-out. A roomy walk-in closet is accessible through the en-suite. The second bedroom, located at the front of the home, is adjacent to a three-piece bathroom. Exterior finishes include wooden shingles on the facade, with cutstone accents and painted wood trim. This home measures 44 feet wide and 66 feet, six inches deep, for a total of 1,694 square feet.

Plans for design 1-2668 are available for $755 (set of 5), $815 (set of 8) and $863 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges. Gas rates

B13

The Government of Saskatchewan today approved SaskEnergy’s adjustments to both its Commodity and Delivery Service rates, as recommended by the Saskatchewan Rate Review Panel. Starting November 1, 2016, residential customers will see an overall decrease of nearly two per cent per month or $15 annually to their heating bills. This follows a decrease of $53 annually, which came into effect January 1, 2016. “When you add the savings from earlier this year to this latest decrease, residential customers will see their natural gas bill shrink by $68 annually, Minister Responsible for SaskEnergy Dustin Duncan said. “I’m pleased we’re able to pass on savings to customers as we head into the winter heating season. SaskEnergy also offers price protection, which shields customers against market volatility at a time of year when they’re using most of their natural gas. Lower market prices have provided the opportunity for a Commodity Rate decrease from $4.30/ GJ to $3.65/GJ, now the lowest in 16 years. The Rate Review Panel’s recommendation to the government mainly supported SaskEnergy’s application, with a minor adjustment to the Commodity Rate (13 per cent decrease instead of the original 14 per cent SaskEnergy applied for in May 2016). The panel’s recommendation reflects changes in the heat value factor of natural gas supply purchased by SaskEnergy. SaskEnergy will also implement an 8.6 per cent increase to its Delivery Service Rate, remaining competitive with other utilities and providing one of the lowest residential delivery charges in Canada. The primary purpose for the Delivery Service increase is related to costs for safety and infrastructure renewal. “SaskEnergy continues to invest in safety technology, as well as proactive infrastructure programs, such as the service tee upgrades in areas of the province prone to ground shifting from excessive soil moisture, Duncan said. “Over the past five years, SaskEnergy has upgraded more than 13,000 pipeline connections to reduce potential for underground leaks. SaskEnergy will continue to look for further efficiencies, and has achieved more than $38 million in efficiencies since 2009, with another $4 million planned this fiscal year.
