STAINER - Orville Eric Stainer was born on December 3, 1945 in Birtle, MB, the sixth of eight children born to Frank and Eunice (nee Sherritt) Stainer. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in the Lansburne District and in Foxwarren, MB. His love of driving started at an early age when he took his first job hauling gravel for Em Williams of Foxwarren. He then spent many years hauling mobile homes throughout Western Canada for Don Davis. In 1968, Orville met the woman who would become his wife, Debbie Flynn and they were united in marriage on August 8, 1970. Orville and Debbie moved to the family farm where they farmed for a number of years. They were blessed with two children, Kirk on July 17, 1973 and Carrie on November 1, 1976. In 1987, the family relocated to Saltcoats, SK where Orville rekindled his driving career. He took a job with Yellowhead Transport in Yorkton, SK hauling cattle across Canada. From there he went to Atomic, TCT and Penner as an owner operator with five trucks in his fleet. In 2009, Orville and Debbie sold their trucking company and he went to work on the oil rigs, hauling water. His current job was hauling cattle across Canada and the USA for C. Jones Trucking of Yorkton. Orville was an avid baseball player and his dedication to the sport resulted in his induction into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in June, 2009. He loved hockey, vacations with his family, camping and fishing - especially ice fishing at the Lake of the Prairies. Orville always worked hard whether it was cutting firewood, carpentry work or fixing things around the yard - everything he did was full steam ahead! Together, Orville and Debbie loved visiting with friends and family in their home and at their place at the lake. There were stories to tell, heated discussions to be had and laughs to be shared. Orville’s greatest joy was his grandchildren. Whether it was something they should have been taught or not, he was always ready to give a lesson on driving the boat, fishing, snowmobiling, shooting a gun, sweet talking a girl, cattle prodding, respect for others and of course, the proper use of swear words! Orville was beyond proud of his children, grandchildren and the life that he shared with his wife. Orville was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Allan Stainer; his sister, Gladys Fiola. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 45 years, Debbie; his son, Kirk (Teri) Stainer and their children, Cole and Sarah; his daughter, Carrie (Mark) Hutchings and their children, Austin and Tristin; his siblings, Delmar (Ruthie) Stainer, Lois (Doug) Clarke, Leona Kowaluk, Gordon (Marie) Stainer and Myrtle (Wes) Lane; brothers-in-law, Don (Nancy) Flynn and Doug (Joanne) Flynn as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Orville was a hell of a guy, and we’re gonna miss him. A Memorial Service to celebrate Orville’s life was held on Friday, October 30, 2015 from the Saltcoats Community Hall with Reverend Walter Farquharson as the Presider. The organist, Ruth Datema, led the congregation and members of the Saltcoats United Church Choir (and Friends) in the singing of the hymns, “Give to Us Laughter” and “Would You Bless Our Homes and Families”. The Choir Selection was “Rock of Ages”. Words of tribute and eulogy were shared by Orville’s son, Kirk Stainer. The recessional music was “Amazing Grace” sung by Linda Datema. A private family Cremation Committal followed in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with John Tomaluk serving as the urn bearer. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

October 16, 2015 at the Canora Gateway Lodge. She was 95 years of age. Rachel was born on December 19, 1919 to Gottfried and Anna Elizabeth Ruf, baptized in Stornoway, SK. At age 9, her mother died leaving a family of 9 children. Rachel was nurtured by her sister Molly and siblings and moved to Rhein to a new stepmother, Katharine Martin, and blended family 6 months later. She married Reinhold Hilderman, her soul mate in 1938, celebrating 57 years of marriage and together they raised a loving family of 4 children - Beverley and Loring and 15 years later - Bentley and Kerry. What a blessing she was to us! Rachel loved being a homemaker, gardener, seamstress and community worker in her church and the Red Cross. A cup of coffee was always ready and a meal could be assembled in minutes to all who visited. She was a woman of great faith, a generous friend, loving grandmother and great-grandmother and historian with her sharp memory, for the family and community. Known to many as Aunt Rachel she enjoyed her years living at the Rhein Manor, the daily scrabble games with her dearest friend Emily, followed by nightly card games, visits from family and friends and nieces Audrey and Barbie who were constants in her life. Many handmade cards were sent from Rachel’s table and her knitting needles never stopped. Our thanks to the staff of Gateway Lodge in Canora for their gentle care these past 4 months and to all who visited so faithfully. Rachel leaves her family to celebrate her goodness: Bev [Ted Krisch] daughter Terri [Trevor Budworth] Elliot and Spencer; son Lauris [Janice] Tessa Loring [Shirley] daughter Erika [Ken Thomson] Parker; son Cordell [Jackie] Kate, Lucas and Cole. Bentley [Doreen] daughter Dawn [Danny Krupski] Wyatt; son Corey [Robin] Kerry [Lynne] daughters Kaney, Lexi and Nikki. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Pastor Karen Stepko officiating. The interment will take place in Christ Lutheran Parish Cemetery. Heartfelt memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein or the Canadian Red Cross, her favourite charities. No flowers please. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneral.com.

PLAN OF THE WEEK
PLAN NUMBER 7-31000 TWO STOREY FAMILY HOME Two-storey homes, square metre for square metre, provide the most living space on a property, and this three-bedroom family home is no exception. Entry is through a covered porch with a veranda to the left. Once in the foyer, double doors open to a den, with the U-shaped staircase to the second floor beyond. A window above the stairwell will let in lots of natural light. The great room, separated from the foyer by an archway, has a lofty sloped ceiling that is
open to the floor above. A gas fireplace is flanked by entertainment units, and large windows look onto a covered patio at the back of the home. From the dining area, access to the covered deck is easy, through sliding glass doors. A prep island divides the kitchen from the dining area, which has large windows overlooking the back garden. Natural light will enter the kitchen through windows over the double sink, which is set into a corner at an angle. The U-shaped counter configuration will provide adequate working space as well as efficiency. A walk-in pantry will offer
extra storage space. Across from the powder room located near the foyer is a handy coat closet. Another closet is included in the laundry room, which has access to the double garage, large enough to include a workshop. Upstairs, the master suite looks out to the back garden. The generous en-suite includes a soaker tub as well as double basins and a shower stall. The walk-in closet will be roomy enough for a couple’s clothing and accessories. The second and third bedrooms share a threepiece bath. A linen closet is located outside the entrance to the third
bedroom. Part of the second floor is open to the great room below, and is railed for safety. On the outside, the home is clad in horizontal siding, with wooden shingles and decorative woodwork in the gables. Pilasters with brick bases mark the entry and veranda, and brick accents flank the two garage doors. This home measures 42 feet wide by 58 feet deep, for a total of 2,079 square feet of living space, not counting the unfinished basement included with the plans. Ceilings rise to nine feet throughout the main floor, except where otherwise indicated. Plans for design 7-31000 are available for $795 (set of 5), $900(set of 8) and $984 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges. Our NEW 47TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is available for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and handling). All the activities are set against the vibrant colours of fall. Green is nice, but the vibrancy or orange, red, and brown trump anything summer can offer up. Fall also brings with Halloween, a fun holiday which doesn’t drag on for weeks like Christmas ahead, a winter season increasingly mired in argument - although I wish all a happy holiday both Oct. 31 and in December. Really the only thing about fall not to like is that it is just too fleeting a season. It would be nice if we could enjoy it far longer each year. - Calvin Daniels

find yourself in, or if you can’t to move on to a different circumstance. As for fall in Saskatchewan, what’s not to like? I love the quality of light as the angle of the sun becomes more oblique upon the land, and the dance of shadows it creates. I love the pungent fragrance of deadfall and fungi mingling with the lingering freshness of late summer blooms. I love how the forests shed their skin to reveal their bones I love the crisp coolness of the early morning and the lazy warmth of the late afternoon. There is a melancholy about the fall that has always appealed to me. Pessimists see decay, I see the promise of renewal. I may have lied, though, I am not overly fond of fall rain now that I have a giant dog. What a mess. - Thom Barker Fall, the most incredible season of them all. Why you ask? There are several reasons. To start the weather has moderated from summer meaning you don’t melt every time you head outdoors to do something. But the temperatures are still better than what will come next. Yes the lone downside to autumn is that it is the herald of approaching winter. But until the snow starts to fall you have a season filled with the bounty of another year. The fresh produce from the garden is always a treat. The smell of pickles being preserved and fruit canned fill many homes. Farmers are busy taking in another crop.
For me Fall, or Autumn if you prefer, is a season with an equal combination of wonderful sights and awful realities. The wonderful part is, of course, the beautiful colours of the leaves right before they fall to the ground and the fact that hockey – both professional and minor – begins in all its amazing glory. It’s a season that signals the end of the summer and the beginning of the Halloween and Christmas seasons, which are two of my favourite times of the year (I mean, who doesn’t like an overabundance of candy and presents? Horrible people, that’s who). However the unfortunate fact is, what I’ve just mentioned is really the only positive parts about this time of year. You see, Autumn also hints at snow and leads into Winter. What that means is, it’s cold, blowing, blustery and all together completely awful. So when it comes to Autumn we all must take it with a grain of salt. Or just enjoy the first couple of weeks and jet off somewhere warm until Spring rolls around. - Randy Brenzen
