VALBERG - Theresa was born on April 18, 1918, the daughter of Michael and Rosela Schneider in Regina, SK. She was the fourth child in a family of eight. She grew up on the family farm in the Leslie Area. Like many young people back then, she left school at an early age to go out working. Theresa eventually came to Churchbridge to work for Ingi and Inga Laxdal and that is where she met her future husband, Ben. They were married on April 28, 1913, in a little church in Leslie. They made their home on the farm, north of Churchbridge. Anna was their first child, followed eight years later by twin boys, Ben and Mike. Being a farmer’s wife, Theresa raised chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks which supplied a good portion of the family’s meat supply. She always had a big garden and each summer many sealers of vegetables and also fruit were canned. She was always making home-made pies, bread, donuts, cookies and cake. This was all done with the old wood cook stove. When it was 90 above outside, it was twice as hot in the house! Her family often think back to those days and wonder how she did it! If someone would drop in at meal time, there was always an extra plate or two put out. Theresa always had a strong belief in her faith and loved gospel music. Even though she was nearly deaf, she could feel the beat of the music. Theresa was a very outgoing person with a compassionate side. After her husband Ben and his two brothers passed away, Theresa moved into Churchbridge and could take life easier. She became a member of the Evergreen Seniors Club and spent many hours there playing cards. She started bowling when the bowling alley opened in Langenburg, a game which was her passion, for many years. She also bowled in Esterhazy. A very independent person, Theresa didn’t like asking for help. When circumstances made it so she couldn’t live by herself any more, she moved into the Manor in Esterhazy and enjoyed her stay there. As health issues progressed, she was in the care home in Saltcoats and Esterhazy and then in Langenburg. She had a good sense of humour and would give anyone a hug. Theresa was very proud of her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren and their accomplishments. Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Ben; twin sons, Ben and Mike; parents, Michael and Rosela; sisters, Katie, Mary and Rosie; infant brother, Michael; brothers-in-law, John, Levi and Harold Valberg; sister-in-law, Rose Valberg and son-inlaw, Ron Sahulka. She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her daughter, Ann Sahulka (Len Bagu); grandchildren, Randy and Heather Sahulka, Shauna and Brian Schultz, Danny and Robin Sahulka, Rhonda and Scott Odgers, Mike and Rebecca Webb, Lisa and Mark McPherson and Allan Valberg; great-grandchildren, Jenna Sahulka, Tyler Schultz, Cassidy and Garret Odgers, Conner Sahulka, Nadia and Noah McPherson and Decklin and Griffin Webb; daughter-in-law, Jan Soloway; sisters, Annie, Dorothy and Gertie as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, March 21, 2016 from the Church of God in Churchbridge, SK with Pastor Aaron Talbot officiating. Special taped music selections included, “In My Father’s House” as sung by Elvis Presley, “I’m Coming Home” written by Ann Sahulka and “Going Home” as sung by Daniel O’Donnell. The Cremation Committal followed in the Thingvalla Cemetery with daughter, Ann serving as the urn bearer. The honourary pall bearers were Joe Jurich, Allan Valberg, Larry Sullivan, Mike Webb, Garry Prier and Tyler Schultz. “An Eagle When She Flies” as sung by Dolly Parton was played at the grave side. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

She was involved in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and got to know John Kowalyk, a nearby neighbour, at the various dances and socials that were held over the years. They were wed in 1946 and the young couple soon took over John’s family farm. As a CPR employee, John moved the family a few times between Manitoba and Alberta, while always maintaining the family farm with the help of Thelma. By 1963 the family settled in Moose Jaw and Thelma became an LPN working at Valley View Centre, the Union Hospital and finally at Pioneers Lodge from which she retired in 1991. She was a local union member with CUPE and SGEU, continued ongoing training and received various service awards throughout her career. During her working years, she remained involved with St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Moose Jaw and after John’s early passing in 1975, Thelma immersed herself in church life at St. Vlad’s. She was also a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Transfiguration in Yorkton. She believed strongly and practiced her faith. She loved singing in the choir and she liked to learn how to play various musical instruments. Many enjoyed her baked goods, often prepared for bake sales to support the various outreaches of the church, not to mention the catered meals for many church functions. At home, she loved her garden, taking a lot of pride in growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed canning, pickling and processing her own home grown vegetables. She was an expert at crocheting, winning several competitions. Thelma also loved sewing, knitting and cross-stitching. Thelma spent much of her time reading, especially Ukrainian texts. She was fluent in the Ukrainian language. Thelma belonged to the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada for over 26 years and was acknowledged for her dedication to the Ukrainian community, its faith and culture. She loved learning and was interested in different geographical features. She traveled often, going to Provincial and Federal parks and attended various festivals. Thelma liked to socialize, whether it was a fancy restaurant or simply coffee with friends; often engaging in discussions about various issues regarding local, provincial and federal politics. She enjoyed various sports and over the years attended some Saskatchewan Roughriders games, as well as some NHL games in Edmonton. KUNANEC - Sister Junia Anne Kunanec, SSMI. 1930 - 2016. As peacefully as she lived, surrounded by her Sisters, Sister Junia died on March 2, 2016 in Holy Family Home, Winnipeg in her 86th year and 67th of religious life. Sister Junia (Sophie Anne) was born on May 26, 1930 in Wolverine, SK, to Dmytro and Maria Kunanec who had immigrated to Canada from Western Ukraine in the 1920s. In the 1940s the family moved to Toronto where Anne attended Notre Dame High School. A shared faith enabled the Kunanec family and their five children to overcome many hardships and sufferings in Ukraine and Canada. Anne’s desire to serve God was supported by the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. In 1949, she joined the SSMI, becoming known as Sister Junia. She made her Final Profession in 1957. Being drawn toward teaching, she obtained a BA and B.Ed. from the U of S and later an MA in Spirituality from Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. She served as principal at IHMS, Winnipeg and was the first principal of St. Mary’s School in Yorkton. Many rewarding years were spent at Sacred Heart High School in Yorkton. A woman blended with intellect and art, she lived a wisdom that reached many. Sister Junia loved her religious congregation and served it wholeheartedly. She held responsible positions of leadership both locally and nationally. From 1999-2009, Sister Junia was Provincial Superior for the Canadian Sisters Servants. Deeply rooted in her faith and living this strength, she held her equilibrium in sunny and difficult days. Her understanding and compassion reached far and wide. Sister Junia’s family was always close to her heart. She was a sister and an aunt who laughed and cried with them and cared for them in times of need. BLIGHT - Kelly Kevin Blight, loving husband and father, passed away suddenly but peacefully at the Jowsey House Care Home in Yorkton, SK on March 4, 2016. After being diagnosed in October with Stage 4 small cell lung cancer, Kelly put up a good fight to beat his cancer. Although the past 5 months were a difficult time for his family, they were also a beautiful gift. Kelly now rests in the arms of the Lord and has joined his parents, Reginald and Myrna (nee Villeneau) Blight and his brother, Gary Blight in Heaven. Kelly is survived by his siblings, Heather, Lorne, Harold, Greg, Gwen and Doug. Kelly met Darla Krall in September of 1992. They welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Jessica Dawn Blight on May 21, 1995. Kelly supported his family by working seasonal jobs for farmers and working as a livestock handler for Parkland Livestock Market in Leross, SK. In the winter of 1997, the family moved to Yorkton, SK for increased opportunities. In December of 1999, Kelly began working for Popowich Milling. He was a dedicated worker and continued working when the company changed hands to Grain Millers Canada Corp. On October 6, 2000, they welcomed their second daughter, Brooklyn Alexis Blight. With a growing family they decided it was time to tie the knot. Kelly and Darla were married on August 17, 2002 after ten years together. A year later on October 16, 2003, another daughter, Haley Grace Blight was born. Then on April 26, 2005, Kelly’s only son, Jayden Gary Blight arrived. His family meant the world to Kelly. Kelly was a great friend to many. Kelly made friends easily and would do anything to lend a hand if ever needed. He always enjoyed the company of others, listening to their stories and laughing along with them. He enjoyed challenging card games of three spot and crib or just sitting back and having a cold one. Summer evenings were spent with family and friends around a fire pit in the back yard, or going out camping for a weekend. These are the memories we will hold dear to our hearts. The family extends their gratitude to all that have been along Kelly’s journey and supported them during this troubling time. Thank you to the staff at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre and at Jowsey House for the kindness and care you gave to Kelly. We appreciate all of you. ~Rest in peace Kelly~ A Service to Celebrate Kelly’s life was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from St. Andrew’s United Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Jen Dresser officiating. We are so sad to announce the passing of our Mom, Eleanor Davidson, on March 16, 2016 at the Grace Hospital Hospice here in Winnipeg, surrounded by family. She fought a long & courageous battle with cancer and was feisty till the very end. She gave those nurses a run for their money! SCHELLER - Laura J. Scheller ended her long battle with cancer on March 7, 2016, just months before she would hold her 84th birthday. Laura was born on May 30, 1932 and married Herbert Scheller in Preeceville, SK on April 19, 1948. They were blessed with seven children. Laura lived life much as a petal on a rose. She fed off of the love for her children and drank from the joys of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She basked in the warmth of her numerous family, siblings and friends. Her adoration for Elvis kept a song on her lips, a wiggle on her hips and trip to the famed Graceland. When her family had grown, Laura extended her need to care for others by working as a special care aid at the Anderson Lodge in Yorkton for many years. When she reached the age of retirement, Laura followed her lifelong dream, sewing and creating a multitude of creations from cloth. Many treasures of quilts, coats, gowns and dresses adorn the beds, walls and closets of those who had the pleasure of knowing her grand stitchery. Much of her works shall be treasures, kept and cherished for years yet to come. Laura enjoyed travelling to new and distant places and always had her Buick tuned and ready for the next excursion to come her way. She also thrived in her flower beds and her garden brought her joy as did her desire to can, freeze and preserve everything possible. She also enjoyed her friends during card games, dominos, puzzles and Rummy Cube. Laura was predeceased by her parents and oldest son, Wade Scheller as well as her sister, Freda Tilbert, brother, Robert Tilbert, sister, Edith Boen and sister, Eileen MacMillan. She leaves to mourn her passing, her sister, Bernice Langdon and brother, Emerson Tilbert; her six children, 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Laura, Mom or Grandma and friend of many, you will be truly missed, lovingly remembered and forever with us in our hearts until we meet again. A Service to Celebrate Laura’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK. A private cremation committal will take place at a later date. Friends so wishing may make donations in Laura’s name to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or to the charity of one’s choice as tokens of remembrance. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

Father Ray, thank you for your final prayers & interment, it was exactly what Brian would have wanted and to Fr. Bohdan for your prayers and visit to the hospital. PLAN OF THE WEEK

PLAN NUMBER 10-2205 TWO-BEDROOM RECREATIONAL HOME With details borrowed from a fairy-tale cottage, this two-bedroom recreational home boasts a curved roofline that sweeps over the arched front entry and an open veranda that wraps around three sides of the home. Rustic river rock clads both the support beams on the veranda and the arched front façade. The compact floor plan features two bed-

rooms on the main level plus a 288-sq. ft. loft a space that could easily be used for a home office, library, games room or guest accommodation. From the covered veranda, the front door opens to reveal a spacious great room with a vaulted ceiling, a gas fireplace and two walls lined with windows. The adjoining kitchen includes a work island with a cook top and a raised eating bar. From the good-sized dining area, a door opens to the back veranda, the

perfect spot for barbecuing meals in summer. A corner pantry cupboard provides all the storage space needed for groceries. A spacious mud room off the kitchen also enjoys access to the outdoors, making this the ideal entry to use after working in the garden. A three-piece bathroom is situated opposite the staircase to the loft area. A sliding pocket door to the master bedroom makes this bathroom a semi-en-suite. The second bedroom is

also conveniently located beside the bathroom. The master suite has a vaulted ceiling, two clothes closets and a large picture window topped by a decorative arch. This window is trimmed with shutters on the outside and overlooks a built-in planter. The airy loft is open to the floor below and also has a side window, ensuring lots of natural light. This home has 1,633 square feet of finished living space and measures 40 feet wide by 47 feet deep. Plans for design 10-2205 are available for $755 (set of 5), $815(set of 8) and $863 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. complaints from patients and staff, but seemed to suggest in a statement to police that he was only “re-educating” the woman on how to use the electrical stimulator in the office’s practice (though she felt the need to report to a hospital afterward).

The Continuing Crisis

Britain’s North Yorkshire Police successfully applied to a judge in January for a “sexual risk order” against a man whose name was not disclosed publicly and whose alleged behavior was not revealed. Whoever he is and whatever he did, he is forbidden to enter into any sexual situation with anyone without providing at least 24 hours’ notice to the police — nor is he allowed to look at or possess any sexually oriented materials. According to the York Press, the order is temporary until May 19, at which time the magistrates may extend it.

Bright Ideas

— Christopher Lemek Jr. was arrested in Palmer, Massachusetts, in January and charged in a New Year’s Eve hit-and-run accident that took a pedestrian’s life. Lemek emerged as a suspect a few days after the collision when police, visiting his home, noticed freshly disturbed earth in his backyard. Eventually Lemek confessed to literally burying the evidence — using a construction vehicle to crush his truck and an excavator to dig up his backyard and drop the truck into it. General Employment
