HUDY - Kazimiera Hudy, resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, passed away on Friday, September 16, 2016. She was 87 years of age. Kazimeria Hudy daughter of Aleksander Makosz and Ann Makosz (Mystkowska) was born October 23, 1928 in Lukow Poland. Kazimeria’s early years were spent in Poland growing up through the second world war. Kazimeria immigrated to Canada by oceanliner in 1960 to meet her future husband Walter Hudy whom she previously corresponded with through mail. They were married on May 27, 1961 in Brewer, SK. Together they resided in Seredaville, just west of Yorkton. Kazimeria was a full-time housewife and home maker. She took great enjoyment and pleasure caring for her children and grandchildren. Mom would always welcome with open arms and caring heart any and all children who came upon her doorstep. Mom’s greatest joy were her grandchildren. While caring for her family mom still found time to plant and harvest a 1/4 acre garden year in and year out that she thoroughly enjoyed tending to. We her children, not so much (LOL). As well as gardening, Kazimeria enjoyed mushroom and berry picking. Kazimeria, being a devout Catholic, took every opportunity to attend mass, whether it be Sunday morning or a weekday evening. Kazimeria moved to the Yorkton & District Nursing Home on May 23, 2013. In those three years mom was blessed with a caring and compassionate staff which soon became a second family for her. She truly cared for her nursing home friends as they truly cared for her. Mom passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16 2016 at about 8:30 in the morning with all her children around her. Mom passed away with Joanne’s arms around her. Predeceased by her parents, Aleksander and Ann Makosz, and by her husband Walter Hudy. Kazimeria was the final living sibling amongst her brothers and sisters: Grestaw (Chester), Yanina (Jane), Irena (Irene), Mierystaw (Metro), Regina (Regan), Yan (John), Yophia (Sophia), Wicnty (Vincent), Marek (Mark); and by granddaughter Sheenah Kalk. She leaves to mourn her four children: Walter Hudy (Roxann) and their two children Zachary and Brittany; Eva Hudy (Ken Kalk) and their children Vincent and Calvin Hamm and Megan (Magdalena) Kalk; Teresa Mysko (Mike) and their son David Mysko; Joanne Hudy (Glenn Betker) Morgan and Gracynn Gurniak. There are many surviving nieces and nephews in Canada and overseas as well. Kazimeria also leaves to mourn many in-laws and friends too numerous to list. Prayers were held on Tuesday evening, September 20, 2016 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton. Hymns sung were ‘Amazing Grace’ , Psalm 122, and ‘How Great Thou Art’. Fr. Francis Hengen officiated, the lay-reader was Dawson Stefanyshyn. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday morning, September 21 from St. Gerard’s Church with Fr. Francis as Celebrant. DAWSON - Alexandra (Sandra) Dawson passed away on September 15, 2016 at the age of 82 after a sudden illness. She will be greatly missed by her three children: Doug of Austin, Texas, Cindy of Wetaskiwin, AB, and Suzanne of Ottawa, ON; her daughters-in law: Janet and Sonja; her six grandchildren: Kyle, Kyra, Kieanna, Dominic, Phoenix and Jordan; her brother and sisters: Jack (Rita) of Ashburn, ON, Ann (Steve) of Winnipeg, MB, Mary of Montreal, QC, Nell of Winnipeg, MB, Lucy of Portage La Prairie, MB, and Ruth (John) of Toronto, ON; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Matthew and Antonina Davidchuk, her sister, Leah, and brother Michael. Sandra was born in Glinsk, Poland in 1933. Her parents lovingly referred to her as Sasha. When she was four years old, her family immigrated to Canada, settling in Swan River, MB, where her father was a farmer. She and her siblings enjoyed life on the farm, picking berries and climbing trees. At age 16, Sandra moved to Winnipeg, and then Edmonton, AB to finish grade 12 and attend Bible College. She moved to Vancouver to attend the University of British Columbia and became a teacher. To help pay for her schooling, she worked as a telephone operator and joined the Air Force reserve. In 1960, while attending university, Sandra met George Dawson at the Baptist Church. She was attracted to him because he was so spontaneous. Little did she know that she was in for so many adventures with George! Sandra’s first teaching job was in Surrey, BC. She and George then moved to Northern B.C., and various places in Ontario before moving back to BC around 1974, and settled in Quesnel until 1984. Sandra resumed her schooling in 1985 and obtained her Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology specializing in special needs children. Sandra was a dedicated teacher, and instilled a love of learning in everyone she met. She and George bought an acreage in Ebenezer, SK in 1988, where they spent their summers, and later lived permanently, sometimes spending winters in New Westminster, BC. She stayed busy with church activities, reading, gardening, entertaining her friends, and volunteering with Soup Haven. She cherished the spring she went on a mission to Mexico with her friends from Prairie Harvest Church. Sandra never really retired. Even after her formal teaching days ended, she taught ESL and tutored many children, including her grandchildren. After George died, she spent time in Halifax and Yorkton, and spent her final year living close to her daughter Suzanne in Ottawa. Her last summer was spent with her daughters and all of her grandchildren. She always enjoyed good mental and physical health and was very independent, and her passing was sudden and peaceful. She will be missed by so many, and leaves a legacy of strength, kindness, generosity and love. PLAN OF THE WEEK
Houses For Rent 1 BEDROOM House For Rent. $650/month + utilities. References and damage deposit required. N/S, N/P. Available Oct. 1. Phone 306-621-9882.
PLAN NUMBER 7-3970 A DASH OF ELEGANCE The great room’s lofty, double-height ceiling lends this two-storey, three-bedroom family home a dash of elegance. The entrance is sheltered by a covered porch. Through the front door, flanked by sidelights, is the foyer, with a coat closet on the left and a den on the right. The hallway leads past a powder room and through an archway to the open living-dining area at the heart of the home. The great room’s gas fireplace will make this room especially comfortable during the cooler
months, and a covered deck – reached via sliding doors from the dining room – will provide the ideal location for the barbecue. The kitchen is separated from the dining room and great room by a work island with a raised eating bar. A large pantry will provide alwayswelcome storage, and the U-shaped counter configuration will save steps for the cook. Natural light will flood into all three rooms through the large windows that overlook the back garden. The laundry room, adjacent to a closet for family gear, has access to
the double garage, which contains room for a workshop. Just outside the master suite, also with a view of the back garden, is a display case for ornaments and collectibles, as well as a linen cupboard. The en-suite includes double basins, a shower stall and a soaker tub with a tiled surround, adding a touch of spalike luxury. The roomy walk-in closet completes the lay-out. Ceilings on the main floor all reach nine feet – 18 feet in the great room. A U-shaped stairway leads to the unfinished basement, included in the plans, and to the sec-
ond floor, where the second and third bedrooms, plus a loft area, threepiece bath and linen cupboard surround a railed area that is open to the great room below. The third bedroom includes a walk-in closet, and both bedrooms feature an extra-deep sill. Exterior finishes include wood shingles in the gables, along with old-fashioned shutters at the upstairs windows, as well as at a vent over the garage. Stone-based pilasters, decorative woodwork and partly mullioned windows complete the classic look. This home measures 44 feet wide and 55 feet deep, for a total of 1,575 square feet, excluding the unfinished basement. Plans for design 7-3970 are available for $755 (set of 5), $815 (set of 8) and $863 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges. Our NEW 48TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is available for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and handling). Presidential debate lacked fireworks I watched the first US Presidential debate on Monday night and it was, pretty much, void of fireworks. I felt that Hillary Clinton did a good job and stood her ground, but did not do enough to win over any voters that weren’t already in her corner. I could say the same for Donald Trump. While he popped a couple of one liners that he’s become famous for, he did not do enough to sway someone on the fence. As our own municipal election date draws closer, I would encourage you to get out to the all candidates forum next month and listen to what the abundance of hopefuls have to say. I know the one thing I’ll be interested in is how accountable can the elected officials hold city workers who are not elected? Furthermore, are some of the issues that Yorkton residents are feeling uneasy about the responsibility of our elected officials, directly, or do we think that maybe they put a bit too much blind faith into those who aren’t elected?
I know I have been asked to run and I just can’t. I don’t have answers to matters I’m still learning what the questions are. The Prince and Kate Middleton are in Canada this week and I have to admit I’m not a big follower of their every move. I don’t understand why the Royal Family is still significant in 2016; but nevertheless I couldn’t help but notice their small child (Prince George, I think his name is) stiffed our Prime Minister, who tried to relate to the lad by offering up his hand for a high five. Clearly, the nannies who teach the Trudeau children are doing a better job than the nannies who look after the Prince’s kids. What’s his name? William? What’s his last name? I’m not at all well versed in royalty. I don’t want to come off insensitive and not acknowledge the awful tragedy this past weekend where two young men were killed and another suffered extremely critical injuries as a result of a two vehicle head on crash. However, I don’t want

Stackhouse Soapbox to draw any unneeded attention to it either. I just want to say that as a small city, we all offer our greatest sympathies to the families involved and hope for the best (whatever that may be) going forward. I can’t imagine the void felt by those directly touched by this. I was sick to my stomach Saturday evening as word started to get out. For those of us not as close to the situation, it’s a reminder that we don’t always get to call our own shots. I recall a quote from a television show that I, often, think about during times like this. ‘Don’t wait around for your life to to happen to you. Find something
that makes you happy and do it. Because everything else is just background noise.’ The reality is, none of us know how much time we have here. Tragedy struck the professional baseball world on Sunday morning as we learned Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez, and two others, were killed in a boating accident. Fernandez, at the age of 24, was one of the five best starting pitchers in baseball and, likely, would have been the best in another couple of years. Hopefully in the coming days, the media uses this as an opportunity to educate people on boat safety. There can be

fied the skin color, I think it’s fair game. After all, I have long felt the G20 protesters in Toronto were animals, as were the Stanley Cup fans in Vancouver, who went crazy after their team lost.
The media really does a poor job covering the National Hockey League. Winnipeg Defenseman Jacob Trouba has demanded a trade, saying he’s happy with his contract offer as far as money is concerned; but he’s not happy playing on the left side. He wants to be on the right and is blocked by Dustin Byfuglien and Tyler Myers. Here’s why that argument is a crock of dandelions: the Jets don’t overpay their free agents. If the money is suitable, I’m going to suggest the Jets intend to play Trouba a great deal, maybe even on his precious right side. I think there is more at play. Nice person mentions: Ryan Duthie, Scott Fitzsimmons, Kristin Karcha, Clint Mylymok, and Darcy McLean.

no good reason to take your boat out for a cruise at 3 am. Don’t look now, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders have won two games in a row and have, actually, appeared to resemble a normal CFL team for much of the last month. True, the head coach doesn’t have any more friends today than he did 30 days ago, but the team appears to have the nose pointed in the right direction. We are seeing political correctness and societal issues creep into professional sports more and more. Seattle Mariners suspended its backup catcher for the rest of the season for tweets he made regarding the rioting and looting in Charlotte. Originally, I was opposed to the suspension. I feel making a commentary on riots, even if unpopular, isn’t grounds for an employer to send you home; however I did see his actual tweets and he, specifically, identified race before calling them animals. Had he not identi-
