ROBERTS - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sheryle Roberts of Bangor on March 29, 2017. Sheryle was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Ruth Illingworth and her brother, Herb. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Brian and their children: Leon (Jamie) and their children Brooke, Darian, Jaeleon and Taryn; Les (Nadine) and their children Tylane and Koal; Donna (Kelly) and their daughter Roxanne; siblings Karen (Dale) Burman, Arlene (Gord) Arnold, sister-in-law Arlene (Bruce) Selkirk and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Sheryle was born in Esterhazy on November 10, 1948, and raised on the family farm near Atwater. Sheryle and Brian were married November 4, 1967 and moved to the Roberts family farm where they farmed and raised their family. Sheryle enjoyed the farm life, gardening, her flowers, baking and friends, but above all else, she loved her grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on June 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bangor Community Cemetery with a celebration of Sheryle’s life to follow at the Bangor Hall. MADDAFORD - Lesley Elizabeth Maddaford (72) of Yorkton, (formerly of the Saltcoats area) beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away suddenly on May 15, 2017. Lesley was born on January 5, 1945 in Worcester, England. The only child of Leslie and Kate Freestone, she was raised and educated in the Aston district. On April 20, 1963 she was united in marriage to John Maddaford of the Crescent District. The following year their daughter, Joan was born. Lesley and John farmed the Maddaford family farm for 53 years before retiring and moving into Yorkton in 2016. Very much a “no frills or fuss” type of person, she was very caring and hard working. Lesley loved farm life, the land, birds and farm animals, her favourite being horses. Tending to a large, well producing garden, beautiful flowers, baking, crocheting, participating in as well as watching curling, collecting Royal family memorabilia and catching the last episode of Coronation Street were some of her favourite activities. Family and friends were very important and a visit in person where the coffee was always on, or a nice long chat on the phone was always enjoyed. Lesley also loved to travel to Kindersley to see “the kids”. Lesley was predeceased by her parents, mother and father-in-law, along with many family members and close friends. Left to mourn in her passing, husband John, daughter Joan (Art), grandchildren Kayla (Kevin), Evan, Ian (Michelle) great-granddaughter Atticus and great-grandson Lennon. Sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends. A graveside service and internment of ashes officiated by her niece Shelly Morris was held for Lesley at the Saltcoats Cemetery on May 21, 2017. At this time Lesley’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all who attended the memorial and all expressions of sympathy. GOGOL - Mrs. Lena Gogol of Yorkton, beloved wife of Andrew Antony, entered eternal life on May 16, 2017 at the Yorkton Hospital with her family by her side at the age of 85 years. Lena was born February 8, 1932 in the Lady Lake district, the daughter of Joseph and Elsie (nee Toderash) Yaremchuk. She was the eldest of the 6 children. While growing up Lena helped her mom and dad with many chores on the family farm. Lena attended school at the Etomami School until grade 6, then continued her education at Sturgis Composite high school. Lena met Nestor Gogol in 1949 while he was running a gravel trucking business. They were married in 1951 on June 25. The next few years brought the joy of 4 children Dan, Donna, Jolie and Bart. Her work journey included footwear sales while in Dauphin, MB as well as being a top selling Avon salesperson and mother of 4, all at the same time. She was a true multitasker. In 1973 they moved to Swan River, MB where she ran the Twilight Motel which her and Nestor owned. After selling the motel she worked for 5 years at Lunding Jewellers in sales. In 1980 they moved to Canora where Lena did a tremendous amount of volunteer work at the Gateway Lodge with the Canora ladies auxiliary. Following Nestor’s passing in 1989 Lena continued her volunteer work with a passion. Lena had several hobbies and passions. All throughout her adult life she loved gardening, picking mushrooms, doing massive puzzles, crossword puzzles, fishing, picking wild strawberries, bingo, playing cards and gambling as well as her favourite outdoor activity which was camping! Lena’s love of the outdoors was only surpassed by the love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved all equally as they all loved her too! In 1995 Lena met Andrew Antony at a singles dance in Yorkton. They danced, they laughed and obviously there was an instant connection. They danced their way into marriage on October 20, 1996. Lena & Andrew had all the same interests which bonded them even closer. They visited many Orthodox Churches throughout Canada. Lena extended her love to Andrew’s children Brian, Gail and Kathy, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Lena and Andrew enjoyed fishing, picking mushrooms, gardening, wine making and most of all they enjoyed spending as much time as possible camping with their many good friends at Lake of the Prairies. Besides her parents, Lena was predeceased by her husband Nestor 1989, son Dan in 2000, grandson Nikolas in 2016, brother Harry in 1987 and brother-in-law Walter 1993. She leaves to cherish her memory, husband Andrew, daughter Donna (Brett) White, daughter Jolie (Nick) Hrominchuk, son Bart (Gale) Gogol, stepson Brian Antony, stepdaughter Gail Antony, stepdaughter Kathy (Kevin) Porteous, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 9 stepgrandchildren and 6 stepgreat-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Annette (Larry) Wallace, Helen (Wes) Andrei, Evelyn Zawerucha and Gladys (Len) Fraser. As well as many nieces and nephews. Moms legacy: When my children think back to their childhood I want them to remember me with a smile on my face, with a heart full of joy and a love so strong that we could get through any circumstance together. I want them to remember that I helped others, showed respect and kindness, but that I also put them at the front of what was important in my life. I want my legacy to be one of faith, hope and love. If I leave them with this legacy then I feel like I have truly left them something valuable and lasting. All my Love Mom Gogol. A visitation was held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating. The responses were led by cantor, Zennovia Duch and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Brian Antony. The interment took place in the family plot at Preeceville Community Cemetery with Jay Hrominchuk, Matthew Gogol, Bryan Wallace, Jason Yaremchuk, David Sawkiw and Justin Gogol serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Lena may be made to the SK Lung Association or Stars Air Ambulance as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com Xpuctoc Bockpec! In Loving Memory Of Our Angel
Dylan Matthew Berg
August 15, 1989-May 30, 2016 If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane. We would walk right up to Heaven, and bring you back again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say "Goodbye". You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. Our hearts still ache in sadness and secret tears still flow. What it meant to lose you, no one will ever know. But now we know you want us to mourn for you no more. To remember all the happy times life still has much in store. Since you'll never be forgotten, we pledge to you today. A hollowed place within our hearts is where you'll always stay.

Shadowrun offers amazing game setting So sticking with the recent theme of role playing games (RPGs), this week we look at Shadowrun. Where Dungeons & Dragons can entail a lot of fantasy sword play, Shadowrun is more about role playing, your character interacting with the characters of the games master (GM). In that regard it is a sweet spot for those with a gift of the gab, those with some theatrics in them. The downside can be finding a GM who can create the varied characters, backgrounds, connections, to carry gaming sessions. In my case, the extensive network of sources and connections which can be created through sessions of Shadowrun really interests. But, it can bog a game down if the gaming group is too large. This is one RPG that once the party climbs about four, maybe five, it can drag for some as the discourse between other party members and the GM created characters takes place.

YORKTON BOARDGAMERS GUILD yorkton_boardgamers_guild@hotmail.com So a bit about the game. “Shadowrun is a science fantasy tabletop role-playing game set in a near-future fictional universe in which cybernetics, magic and fantasy creatures co-exist. It combines genres of cyberpunk, urban fantasy and crime, with occasional elements of conspiracy, horror and detective fiction,” details Wikipedia with a rather bang on explanation. “From its inception in 1989, Shadowrun has remained among the most popular roleplaying games. It has spawned a vast franchise that includes a series of novels, a collectible card game, two miniaturebased tabletop wargames, and multiple video games.” One of the miniature tabletop games of which they note is Shadowrun: Sprawl Gangers, a game that has sadly been in development for years, and seems either dead in the water, or at the very least is dragging slowly toward a still unknown release. Regular readers will be aware this gamer loves miniature skirmish games. There is just something about the tactile feel of miniatures, and the use of tactics where brains play a key role, which I adore. So Sprawl Gangers has been on my ‘watch list’ for ages, and should it ever be produced I’ll jump at it since it builds off the base of the solid Shadowrun world. While I have not been an avid reader of Shadowrun fiction novels, the couple I have picked up have been quick, and fun reads. That a successful RPG should not be a surprise since dozens of books based on D&D worlds have been big sellers through the years. The Shadowrun
“title is taken from the game’s main premise – that industrial espionage runs rampant in a near-future setting. A shadowrun – a successful data theft or physical break-in at a rival corporation or organization – is one of the main tools employed by both corporate rivals and underworld figures. Deckers (futuristic hackers) who can tap into an immersive, three-dimensional cyberspace are opposed by rival deckers and lethal, potentially braindestroying artificial intelligences called ‘Intrusion Countermeasures Electronics’ – ‘ICE’ for short –, who are protected by street fighters and/ or mercenaries, often with cyborg implants (called cyberware), magicians, and other exotic figures, on such missions as they seek access, physical or remote, to the power structures of rival groups. Magic has also returned to the world after a series of dystopian plagues; dragons who can take human form have returned as well, and are commonly found in high positions of corporate power.” It sounds like a bit of a genre mishmash which it is, but that is where the fun comes from. An experienced GM can go just about any direction in terms of story, and that keeps games fresh, and players interested. As a player the Shadowrun world truly is an oyster, and the pearl is being allowed a very free rein in terms of player character development. Back to Wikipedia for a bit more flavour. “Shadowrun takes place several decades in the future (2050 in the first edition, currently 2079. The end of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar ushered in the ‘Sixth World”’ with once-mythological beings (e.g. dragons) appearing
Yorkton Lions Club Lobster fest was held on Friday, May 26 at the Yorkton Wildlife Club house. Attendees enjoyed Fresh East Coast lobster or steak with a side order of skeet shooting.
and forms of magic suddenly emerging. Large numbers of humans have ‘Goblinized’ into orcs and trolls, while many human children are born as elves, dwarves, and even more exotic creatures. “In North America, indigenous peoples discovered that their traditional ceremonies allow them to command powerful spirits, and rituals associated with a new Ghost Dance movement let them take control of much of the western U.S. and Canada, where they formed a federation of Native American Nations. Seattle remains under U.S. control by treaty as a city-state enclave, and most game materials are set there and assume campaigns will use it as their setting. “In parallel with these magical developments, the setting’s 21st century features technological and social developments associated with cyberpunk science fiction. Megacorporations control the lives of their employees and command their own armies; the ten largest have extraterritoriality, such as currently enjoyed by foreign heads of state. Technological advances make cyberware (mechanical replacement body parts) and bioware (augmented vat-grown body parts implanted in place of natural organs) common.
‘The Computer Crash of 2029 led to the creation of the Matrix, a worldwide computer network that users interact with via direct neural interface. When conflicts arise, corporations, governments, organized crime syndicates, and even wealthy individuals subcontract their dirty work to specialists, who then perform ‘shadowruns’ or missions undertaken by deniable assets without identities or those that wish to remain unknown. The most skilled of these specialists, called shadowrunners, have earned a reputation for getting the job done. They have developed a knack for staying alive, and prospering, in the world of Shadowrun. Now if all that wild and wonderful craziness hasn’t drawn you look into Shadowrun, then maybe this is not the RPG for you. Myself, this is certainly top three territory in terms of RPGs, although unfortunately I am not currently involved in a game, so my troll character languishes in a binder somewhere too long not played. But if you like a broadly open storyline, and tons of opportunity to interact with the non-player characters of the RPG world you are immersed in, then Shadowrun is one to delve into.

Are you tired of feeling saggy, lumpy, pinched or strained? Well you’re not alone. As you’ve probably seen on Oprah or read in women’s magazines, over 80 percent of all women wear the wrong size bra. Due to the overwhelming response to the previous clinic, Barb Chapman is coming to
YORKTON AND CANORA TUESDAY, JUNE 6TH
to outfit you with the best possible bra for your body. Chapman said she will be seeing clients on a one-on-one .basis, explaining the benefits of good bras and measuring their bodies properly “Most women just want to find a good-fitting bra that’s not uncomfortable,” Chapman said. “What they don’t realize is that a good support bra is also important for blood circulation and enhanced lymph drainage.” “Chapman has over 200 bra sizes available for ordering, ranging from 30AA to 52KK. It’s likely that you’ll fit somewhere between those sizes. She offers these questions for women to ask themselves: • Do you have a drawer full of bras but none that fit comfortably? • Does your bust line “bounce” when you walk while wearing your “everyday” bra? • Do you overflow the cup of your bra? • Do your bra straps slip of your shoulder or dig into your shoulders leaving red and painful marks? • Does your bra ride up in the back because you tighten the straps to give you added support? • Have you ever begun an exercise class only to drop out because your breasts ached from lack of support while jumping or running? If you answer yes to any of these you are in need of a new bra, and a custom one could be the way to go.
