CHORNEY - Mr. Peco Chorney of Yorkton, beloved husband of Grace Chorney entered eternal life on August 12, 2016 at the age of 87 years. Peter ‘Peco’ Paul Chorney was born on February 23, 1929 in Yorkton, SK to Thomas and Mary (Prystay) Chorney. He was the second oldest of five children. His well-known nick name was the result of his oldest brother, Harry, being unable to pronounce the Ukrainian Petro and calling him Pecko, which later became Peco. Peco attended Sacred Heart School and later St. Joseph’s College. He was active in altar serving in his younger years and was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Youth Club. Later, he was part of the Fr. Delaere Council of the Knights of Columbus and the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood of Canada. He continued to serve the church in many capacities throughout his life. He made beautiful rosaries from many materials as one sign of his enduring faith. One of dad’s more recent creative talents was that of carving a lamb out of butter for the Easter basket, a marvel of beauty. As a young man, Peco moved to Wynyard to play hockey with the Monarchs, and began working with the CPR for two years as a brakeman. He decided to return home to Yorkton to look after his parents. In 1954, Peco gained employment with the Dairy Producers in Yorkton. He was a butter maker and printer, worked in the shipping department and then as a driver/salesman in the city of Yorkton. Peco remained at the creamery for 40 years. While he was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Youth club, he met Grace Shordee. September 2, 1956, was a joyous occasion when Peco and Grace were united in marriage. As time went by, they were blessed with four sons: Timothy, Sidney, Gregory and Kevin. Peco and Grace’s 40th Wedding Anniversary was highlighted by a cruise in the Caribbean with Tim, Linda and Riane. Supporting his sons was a joy and a priority for Peco. He encouraged them to be altar servers and helped them to prepare for masses. He was an executive leader with the Cubs when his sons were members. Peco was always at one or another’s hockey game coaching or refereeing. He even coached some of the boys’ friends’ teams. When Peco attended night school to learn carpentry, electrical, bricklaying and auto body repair, he patiently passed on his skills to his sons. Most importantly, he stood as a strong Christian role model for his boys. A natural athlete, Peco enjoyed and excelled at sports of all types. His passion for hockey was obvious in the fact that he played for many teams from age 14 well into his retirement years. He played with the Moose Jaw Canucks, the Humboldt Indians, Kamloops Elks, Wynyard Monarchs, the Melville Millionaires, the Yorkton Millers and then the Yorkton Terriers. As a Terrier, Peco was a hometown favourite which many folks fondly remembered long after he had retired from the sport. Always a gentleman, he was known as the player with the longest stick. He also played for the Yorkton Old Timers when they represented Saskatchewan in Peterborough, ON. He was active with curling, baseball, horseshoes and archery. He was a casual golfer in retirement. When Peco retired in 1994, he received a wonderful gift of his first grand-daughter, Shayla, who was born just 13 minutes before he officially retired. The pride and joy of grandchildren followed with the birth of Riane in 1995 and Kurtis in 2001. He enjoyed many hobbies. His carpentry skills were put to use making furniture for his children and grandchildren. Peco also built and flew radio-controlled model airplanes. He coached the old timers hockey team. Peco formed a rec league hockey team called J.J.’s with Fr. Len Ratushniak as their goal tender, and Peco’s son Greg was thrilled to play with him as well. Peco, along with Grace, enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cabin at York Lake. Peco was well known for being a person who always put others first. He found joy in serving family, friends and the community and never had expectations of repayment. He and Grace were very busy in retirement, especially in volunteering with Home Care and various work within the church, such as decorating the church for Christmas and Easter. His service to the church and the community remains as a testimony of his humble generosity. Peco loved his family dearly and took great pride in their accomplishments. Caring for them and serving the church were always priorities. Peco was predeceased by his father, Thomas (1967) and his mother, Mary (2002), brother-in-law Percy Tupper (1974), sister-in-law Marlene (2001), sister-in-law Mae (2007), brother Steve (2013) and brother-in-law Jack Scopick (2016). Peco is survived by his wife Grace, sons Tim (Linda and daughter Riane) of Calgary, Sid (friend Lucy) of Winnipeg, Greg (Julie and son Kurtis) of Cold Lake and Kevin (Yayoi and daughter Shayla) of Vancouver, siblings Harry of Moses Lake, Washington State, Julie Tupper of Coldbrook, N.S., Pauline Scopick of Canora, brother-in-law Bill Shordee of New Westminster, B.C. and Aunt Helen Prystay of Langley B.C. and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Prayers were held on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church with Very Rev. Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. and Rev. Father Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. officiating. The Holy Rosary led by Parishioners of St. Mary’s preceded the prayers. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Boris Kyba, C.Ss.R. and Rev. Fr. Methodius Kushko, C.Ss.R. as the Concelebrants. The responses were led by Laurie Fedorowich and English Choir Members. The cross bearer was Kurtis Chorney and the epistle reader was Riane Chorney and Shayla Chorney. Serving as honourary bearers were Sr. Nestor Kyba, Denise Smysnuik, Mary Popowich, Lawrence & Stella Malawski, Lori & Paulina Pugh, Orest & Elizabeth Zahayko, Jackie & Chloe Gulka-Wiley, Mildred & Alex Mazur and Walter & Pauline Prystai. Following the committal. violinist, Peter Kobylka paid an instrumental tribute. Following the reception remembrances were shared by sons, Sid, Greg and Kevin Chorney and friend Lawrence Malawski. A tribute to Grandpa was shared by grandchildren, Riane, Kurtis and Shayla Chorney. Words of thanks were extended by son Tim Chorney. Vichnaya Pamyat! Eternal Memory! 16, 2016 at the age of 43 years. Loretta Lynn Glute was born in Yorkton, September 1, 1972 to Alex and Joy (nee Poppenheim) Oystrick. Loretta and Bill met around thirty years ago at a dance, then they lost touch with each other for about fifteen or so years. They then met again at the Met Store where she worked in 1991, they dated till 1994 and Bill had the privilege of marrying the love of his life on September 3, 1994. This union was blessed with three children, first, a daughter Kelli, then with twins, Rebecca and Ryan. She enjoyed swimming, playing horseshoes, frisbee, shuffle board, snowball fights and spending time with her dogs, Taco & Sox. She loved going to the lake and showcasing her husband and her three amazing children. Her dream was to have grandchildren to complete her family and to make others happy. She also made visiting her parents a priority, to make sure they were happy, even when she wasn’t feeling well. She always made time for her Mom & Dad. She never complained about her situation, never doubted her children, taught her husband how to love and gave up everything to make a home for her family. She was the most selfless, loving, caring daughter, wife, mother, sister, friend that we will ever have the pleasure and blessing of knowing. She leaves to mourn her husband, Bill; three children, Kelli, twins Rebecca and Ryan; parents, Alex & Joy Oystrick; sisters, Shelley (Glenn) Burback, Sherry (Ernie) Woolford and Leanne (Michael) Oucharek; mothers-in-law, Liz and Mary Glute; father-in-law, Bill Glute; brother-in-law, Joe Glute; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. ONOFRIECHUK - Rose was born on March 12, 1921, in the MacNutt district, the 3rd child in a family of 8, to Wasyl and Marie (Karpa) Dwernichuk. Gramma grew up helping out wherever she was needed on the family farm, be it looking after her younger siblings… to feeding chickens and milking cows… to field work. Gramma never shared childhood memories with us until this past Christmas when she finally opened up. She had a very hard childhood which helped us to understand the person she had become. On November 2, 1941, Rose married the love of her life, Peter Onofriechuk. Together they built their home in the MacNutt area and worked side by side on the farm. On May, 5, 1950, they were blessed with a son, Edwin. Gramma Rose loved gardening and her flower beds. She spent endless hours in the garden and she was always sharing her bountiful crops with everyone. Gramma was on the church board for many years and her and Grampa Pete spent many hours working at the church. Her church was very important. Mom, Karen, would go have her lunch hour with Gramma Rose and she would ask Gramma what have you been doing…Gramma’s first thing to tell her all the time was, “I was at church”. Gramma loved crocheting, cooking, baking… her maple walnut chiffon cakes, kuchen and donuts were the best! I smile as I page through her cookbooks because beside her recipes she has written “Stacey’s favourite”. As soon as you arrived at Gramma’s house, the coffee was on, lunch was being made and “EAT! EAT! EAT!” were her 3 famous words. Gramma loved to play cards and cheat while doing it! (Sorry, Gramma!) Gramma Rose also loved shopping through the Sears catalogue. Gramma never had her driver’s licence so I’m not sure if she would order something because she liked it or because the parcel would arrive and she would get to go to town…the next day she would get to go to town again because the parcel would be going back...Gramma Rose and Grampa Pete travelled together out to British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Washington, USA a few times always returning home with many stories and very fond memories. In July 2011, after 6 months alone in the farm house home, as Grampa Pete was in the Yorkton Nursing Home, Gramma went into respite at the Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home in Langenburg, SK. After the two weeks were up, Gramma Rose moved to the Morris Lodge in Bangor, SK…then West Haven in Langenburg, SK… (Gramma absolutely loved it here! I could never call Gramma “Baba” she didn’t like it and let me know it BUT Glenn got away with it and she smiled every time he said it!...St. Paul’s Lutheran Home, Melville, SK…was her next move and finally the circle completed when a room in Langenburg became available for her. So May 1, 2012, she settled into her home at Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home. Gramma told Mom and myself that the last 5 years of her life were some of her best years because she was always with people. On Gramma’s brief stay in Melville, she suffered congestive heart failure (her heart stopped 9 times in one day) and we almost lost her. But the strong willed woman she was, she managed another three and a half years with us. On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, Gramma Rose passed away quickly but very peacefully at bedtime after her evening snack at the Langenburg Centennial Care Home. Rose was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Marie, her husband, Peter, son, Edwin, her siblings, Mike, George, Marie (and Marie’s infant twin brother), Doris, Gordon and Bill, as well as her maternal parents and sisters and brothers-in-laws. Rest in Peace, Gramma Rose. May your memory be Eternal! Prayer services were held on Sunday evening, August 21, 2016 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, August 22, 2016 from St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, MacNutt district with Rev. Fr. Richard Ehrmantraut officiating. Dobr. Orysia Ehrmantraut led in the singing of the responses. The cross bearer was Dennis Goyerick, the banner bearers were Don Kahut & Maria Dawe. The interment followed in St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery with Stacey Onofriechuk, Alvin Onofriechuk, Lorne Kozaruk, Edwin Antony, Glenn Walz & Pat Petrowsky serving as the casket bearers. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to St. Nicholas Church.

PLAN NUMBER 1-2665 DESIGNED FOR A SLOPED LOT This two-bedroom home, designed for a lot that slopes to the back, appears compact from the outside, but contains all the amenities any home-owner could wish for. And since the plans include an unfinished basement, there will be lots of room for expansion. Beyond the covered porch, always a boon in bad weather is the foyer, with a coat closet ahead and to the right. Directly ahead is the great-room, with a gas fireplace to ensure cosy evenings during the cooler months. Generous windows overlook a covered deck. Ceilings in the great room and the foyer measure 11 feet high, while the rest of the ground-floor ceilings are nine feet. Also overlooking the back garden, with a doorway to the covered deck, is the dining room, where an optional buffet will provide extra serving and storage space.
The kitchen is separated from both the great room and the dining area by a polygonal work island that includes the double sink. A walkthrough pantry at one end will provide storage space for canned goods and other staples, and provides entry to the laundry room. The laundry room can double as a mud room, thanks to a closet and bench, useful for changing muddy boots, and access to the double garage. In the sleeping wing, the master bedroom is located at the back of the home, for privacy. As well as a roomy walk-in closet, there is an ensuite with double sinks, a tub and a shower stall. Adjacent, overlooking the front garden is the second bedroom, with an extra-deep window sill and a three-piece bathroom nearby. Exterior finishes include cedar shakes and stucco with brick accents, painted trim and decorative garage doors. This home measures 47 feet wide by 61 feet
deep, for a total of 1,632 square feet. Plans for design 1-2665 are available for $755 (set of 5), $815 (set of 8) and $863 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges. pregnant women in the last trimester of pregnancy as it can be passed to the newborn with the potential to cause severe complications and death. During the last four years (2011-2014), there have been 148 cases of pertussis reported in Saskatchewan and twenty percent of total cases were hospitalized. Early symptoms of pertussis are sneezing, runny nose, a fever and a cough. Over time, the cough gets worse, leading to severe coughing spells with a whooping sound before the next breath and often ends in vomiting. The cough can last up to two months and can make it very hard to breathe. Young infants may not have these exact symptoms, and a parent or caregiver may not realize how sick their baby really is. Once a person has had pertussis, they do not develop life-long protection and may get the disease again. If you or your child experiences these symptoms, please see your family physician or nurse practitioner as soon as possible for assessment. Pertussis can be prevented by a vaccine given in childhood and in grade eight. As a way of protecting infants, especially those below the age of six months, the vaccine is also provided to caregivers of infants up to six months of age. “I would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to ensure that your children’s vaccinations are up to date, says Medical Health Officer, Dr. Ashok Chhetri. “If you are a caregiver of a young infant and wish to arrange immunization, or if you need more information about pertussis, please consult your local Public Health Nurse. The pertussis germ is spread very easily by infected people when they cough, sneeze or have close contact with others. Pertussis can easily spread from person to person, especially among people of the same household, school or daycare.
