KERUNSKY - Mary Kerunsky was born on August 17, 1915 in the Sheho district of Saskatchewan; the third child of seven children born to Anna (nee Sebansky) and John Medwid. She was raised on the farm and attended school in the Sheho district. As a young woman she met her future husband, John Kerunsky, at a school dance in the district. The couple were united in marriage on January 29, 1934 at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church by Fr. Delforge. To this union five children were born, three daughters and two sons. The couple farmed and raised their family in the Beckenham district. Throughout these years, John and Mary were very involved in the Roman Catholic Church in Beckenham. Mary worked alongside of John on the farm, she was a good cook, seamstress and an excellent homemaker. Following 45 years on the farm, the couple moved to Foam Lake, where they resided for eight years before coming to Yorkton. Following the death of John in March of 1988, Mary was able to maintain her home for a couple of years, then became a resident of Independent Manor. Mary resided there for 24 years. She was able to do a lot of travelling throughout Canada during this time, mostly to visit family. Mary was an avid card player, but enjoyed doing puzzles the most. She also had a green thumb, especially growing her prize winning African Violets. In 2011 her health began to fail and had been a resident of the Ituna Pioneer Health Care Centre till her passing on December 12, 2015. She was 100 years, 3 months and 26 days of age. Predeceased by her parents; husband John; daughter Emily Kozakewich; grandsons, Allan Zatwarnitski and Curtis Kozakewich; son-in-law, John Zatwarnitski; brothers: Mike, Pete, Andy & Carl Medwid and her sister, Irene Rawlyk. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Adela Zatwarnitski of Yorkton; Violet (Eugene) Hnatiuk of Yorkton; two sons: John (Beverly) Kerunsky of Christopher Lake, SK, and Glen (Cindy) Kerunsky of Calgary; son-in-law, Bill Kozakewich of Calgary; grandchildren: John Zatwarnitski Jr, Cassie & Georgia Kerunsky, Shannon Schwartz, Stacey (Karen) Hnatiuk, Adrienne (Don) Patrician, Sherry (Kent) Buckler, Travis Kerunsky (friend Kate); 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Gildart of Winnipeg; numerous nieces, nephews and her many other relatives and friends. Prayers were held on Wednesday evening, Dec. 16, 2015 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The lay-presider was Rick Yaholnitsky. Hymns sung were ‘Just As I Am’, ‘Psalm 63’, ‘Come Home’ and ‘Immaculate Mary’. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 17 from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton with Fr. Francis Hengen officiating. The Lectors were Stacy Hnatiuk and Sherry Buckler, the Cross bearer was Shannon Schwartz. The interment took place in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Glen, John and Travis Kerunsky, Stacy Hnatiuk, Cec Krywulak and Glen Tymiak serving as the casket bearers. CARNDUFF - Russell Edward Carnduff was born May 9, 1925 in Carnduff, SK. He was the second child born to William Edward and Stella Mae (Wilson) Carnduff. Russell completed public school to Grade 6 in Carnduff then during the Depression his family moved to Nut Mountain, SK. His father built a private grain elevator and feed mill, maintained a John Deere and Mercury Auto dealership and repair shop. Russell followed in his father’s entrepreneurial steps. He looked after the horses taken in for trade and at age 14 raised 20 piglets and sold them as Grade A Hogs. He had $400 in his account, quite a lot of money in those years. At age 15 Russell took his trunk and the train to Winnipeg to enroll at Saint John’s College. He spent two years there and was part of the hockey team that won the Manitoba Provincial High School Championship. With his mother’s permission, at age 17, Russell joined the RCNUR at HMCS Queen Regina for basic training. Later he was transferred to HMCS Cornwallis in Nova Scotia for gunnery training and volunteered for DEMS as a gunner on merchant ships for convoy duty. The first ship he was transferred to was the SS Yoho Park which sailed to St Pedro, CA and then 30 days later to New Zealand. While there Russell had a ruptured appendix and was left in Fiji for surgery. He recuperated in the New Zealand Navy Barracks and waited for another Canadian ship. He sailed on the SS Seacliffe Park from New Zealand through the Panama Canal to New York Harbour to join a convoy of 92 ships sailing to England. After unloading their cargo they took a full ship of silicon sand for ballast and delivered it to Ocean Falls, BC for use in paper and toothpaste production. He returned home to Canada on the HMCS Givenchy in 1945 at Vancouver for discharge after a year at sea. In 1949 Russell and his father decided to move to Yorkton and open a Mercury dealership. They bought an Esso Service Station at the corner of First and Broadway and built a new building. They struggled at first but managed to survive and twenty-five years later they were awarded a full-line Ford Dealership and built a new building at Broadway and 6th. He was successful and the business grew. Russ loved the business and prided himself on giving good service and making friends of many of his customers. When he was 60 he retired and sold the business now known as Royal Ford to Terry Ortynsky. In 1951 he married Shirley Wolfe and the couple lived above the dealership. In 1952 they welcomed a daughter Brenda. A son Craig arrived in 1954 and the family moved to a home on Betts Avenue. Later they built a home on 6th Avenue and lived there for many years. Russell worked hard over the years but found time for many interests. He belonged to the Kiwanis Club, Wildlife Club, Canadian Legion and spent a number of years on Ford Dealer Council. He loved to fish, hunt, snowmobile, curl and golf. The family spent summers at Good Spirit Lake and Madge Lake and in later years Russ and Shirley owned a home in Arizona where they enjoyed spending time with other snowbird friends. In 1998 Russell suffered a major stroke. He survived and with hard work and the help of a skilled therapist, Sheldon Revoy and his caregiver Jeff Niebergall, he was able to recover mobility. Shirley cared for him in the family home until 2010 when her health started to fail. He then moved to the Yorkton Nursing Home. Russell was a gregarious fun loving and generous man. He was a great story teller and had many tales of the war and his years in business. He cherished his friends and family and had a full life. Russell was predeceased by his parents Ed and Stella (Wilson) Carnduff, sisters Betty Neal, Doris Trealeaven and Audrey Etchison. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Brenda; son Craig (Karen); grandchildren: Gage and Samantha, brother Ross Carnduff of Nanaimo, many nieces and nephews, cousins and numerous close friends. Special thanks to the staff at Malinowski House, Yorkton Nursing Home and caregiver and friend Jeff Niebergall. The funeral service was held on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Jen Dresser of St. Andrew’s United Church officiating. Jeff Niebergall gave the eulogy. Organist, Shani Apland led the congregation in the singing of the hymns ‘Church in the Wildwood’, ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘We Shall Go Out With Hope of Resurrection’. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, General Alexander Ross branch #77 attended the service and performed the Legion Tribute Service. Honourary bearers were Bill and Peggy Dicker, Mary Laakso and Shirley DeBalinhard. The interment took place in the Garden of St. John with Kelly Edwards, Jeff Niebergall, Bernie Wlock, Gage Carnduff, John Wasylynka and Greg Apland serving as the casket bearers. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com. Memorials were to the Salvation Army.

HRYHORIW - Yvonne Hryhoriw, beloved wife of the late Steve Hryhoriw of Yorkton and formerly of the Canora District, passed away on December 10, 2015 at the age of 78 years. Yvonne was born on August 30, 1937 at Regina, SK, the first of seven children born to Frank and Kate (Becker) Herauf. She grew up on her parents’ farm near Odessa, SK and went to the one-room schoolhouse a mile from home, followed by grades 10-12 at the convent in Vibank. After graduation, Yvonne spent three years in nurse’s training at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina and then worked as a nurse. It was at the Grey Nuns Hospital where she met Steve Hryhoriw, who worked as an orderly. They were married on July 18, 1959 and continued to live in Regina. Yvonne and Steve moved to Canora in 1962 and three years later started a dairy farm on the same home quarter where Steve grew up. They operated the dairy for the next 29 years, then raised beef cattle for another 10 years before retiring from farming in 2004. They continued to live on the farm until 2008 when they moved to the Fairview Arms seniors’ condominium in Yorkton. Yvonne felt blessed to meet many new friends during her time there, adding to the many great neighbours she had enjoyed on the farm. Over the years, Yvonne and Steve had eight children - five sons and three daughters and 13 grandchildren. Between the dairy, a busy household and a growing family, Yvonne’s work seemed never-ending. Yet she always found the time to devote to the comfort and happiness of others - especially her children and grandchildren - delivered selflessly and with a smile. Everyone who visited the farm could count on receiving Yvonne’s unconditional love; all were welcomed and accepted graciously. She cherished the time spent with family and friends, enjoying the love and laughter she made sure was forever present in her home. A tender and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Yvonne will be fondly remembered for the kindness and generosity she extended to all who came into her life. Yvonne is predeceased by her husband, Steve, her parents, Frank and Kate and a brother, Harvey. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Nancy, Sue (Dennis) and Sandy (Jeff); sons: Tim (Linda), Kevin, Glen (Kim), Greg (Jenny) and Jeff and grandchildren: Katie, Dylan, Savanah, Jessie, Steven, Dustin, Adam, Jake, Ryan, Becka, Tessa, Layne and Henry; as well as numerous brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 10:30 am from Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Canora with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac as Celebrant. Rite of Committal followed at the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Sts. ZID - Marjorie Eileen was born in Yorkton on May 30, 1923. She was the first child born to Ed and Anne (Lang) McPhee. Marjorie lived her childhood years in the Springside District and received her education at Beaver School. Marjorie is predeceased by her parents and her two sisters Effie and Mary. She will be remembered by her half brother and sisters; Billy (Adeline) and Ruthie. Her nephews and nieces; Rob, Don, Heather and Debbie Lindsay, Leanne Matsalla, Jody McPhee, John and Jeff McPhee. Marjorie spent the last eight years of her life in the Yorkton District Nursing Home, for which we as her family are most grateful for the care, compassion and respect shown to our sister and Aunt. Marjorie had a passion for music and it was one of the things that brought her comfort and peace in troubling times. As you pass to “the other side” Marjorie, may there be a song in your heart that will bring you joy as never before. A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, December 15 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey officiating. Special hymns were “What a Friend we Have in Jesus”, “Old Rugged Cross”, “Jesus Loves Me”, “How Great Thou Art” and “In My Heart There Rings a Melody” with Debbie Thompson and Noreen Kriger as soloists and Ruth McPhee the accompanist. An interment took place in Yorkton City Cemetery.
SCHWAB Rodney Brain Schwab. Rod passed away on December 15, 2015, after a brave fight with cancer. Rod was truly one of a kind; he could light up the room with his crazy sense of humour and his quick wit. He could think his way out of a sticky situation and make everything work. It didn’t matter if it was an old piece of machinery, a wrecked car, a broken toaster, or an injured puppy; give Rod two shoelaces, a stick of gum and he could fix it. His kindness and compassion was felt by everyone who met him. He always cared for others and did whatever he could to help someone else. Rod had the biggest heart! He believed in honesty, justice and hard work. He was never afraid to tell you exactly how he felt and would fight for the underdog. Rod leaves to mourn, his wife Sharon; three beautiful children Brent, Chelsea and Steven; two wonderful grandchildren Linden and Payten Schwab; one sister Judy and one brother Rick. He also leaves his extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins who also mourn and will remember him fondly. May you rest in peace Rod. God bless you and your loving heart. A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Ponoka Food Bank. There’s still time to send flowers to the Funeral Service at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Dec 19, 2015.

KROTENKO - Edwin. October 8, 1954 - December 11, 2015, aged 61 years, passed away peacefully at the Canora Hospital, with his loving family at his side. Known and loved as Ed, Fast Eddy or Gido. Remembered as laughing, joking, smoking and swearing. Ed could do anything he put his mind to, build anything and drive anything. There was not a thing he could not fix or modify to go faster. Born in Preeceville in 1954, growing up on the family farm near Stenen, SK, Ed had opportunities to learn many talents. He liked to keep busy and was not afraid of hard work. A passion for cars led him to a career as a Journeyman Auto Body Technician at the age of 23. He truly was a natural and gained respect for his talent and the vehicles he repaired and built. The 1927 Model T Ford he built from the ground up and the 1966 Ford Mustang he converted into a station wagon showed his craftsmanship and ingenuity. Ed began a new career in sales at Brown’s Leisure World in Yorkton, a position he held up until the time he became ill. Creating prototypes and assembling turbo engines was a dream come true for him. Sledding in the mountains of Yellowstone and taking to the open road on his Harley Davidson were divine experiences for him. You could not wipe the smile from his face. Ed loved a healthy competition and would do anything to out fish and out golf everyone. Ed was married to his wife Lynn, or as he affectionately referred to as Lynnie, and then Baba, for 38 years. Nothing was more precious to him than his children, son Kurtis and wife Kelly, son Jordan and wife Blaire and daughter Kendra and husband Brandon. The joy of our lives are grandchildren Jackson, Wil, Livia, Lauren, Liam. Gido’s face would light up each and every time he was in their presence. He was so very proud of his family. There was nothing Ed liked better than a good meal, a good story, a good laugh and Napoleon Cake. Along with his loving wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by his two sisters, Marianne (EJ) and Ellen (James), mother-in-law Marilyn, brother-in-laws Leonard (Shelly), Kevin and Jason, sister-in-laws Kathy and Lori (Andy). Ed was predeceased by his father, Louis, mother Ivy, father-in-law Ernie and brother-in-law Darcy. He leaves behind many friends, customers, coworkers and extended family to celebrate his life and share his memory. There will be a Memorial Tribute to Ed in the spring of 2016 that will be announced at a later date. Until then, get together, share your stories, laugh if you can, cry if you must and enjoy a beer. He would not want it any other way. Donations in memory of Ed can be made to the Collaborative Emergency Centre, Box 2040, Canora, SK, S0A 0L0 as gratitude for the wonderful care he received.
