RYCZAK - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Ryczak; beloved husband, father and Guido in Yorkton, SK on February 15, 2016 at the age of 71 years. Michael was born in the Buchanan area on the farm on May 6, 1944 to John and Mary (nee Woicichowski) Ryczak. He was the second youngest son in a family of six boys. Michael attended elementary school in Vasolovitz country school and then continued his studies at high school in Canora, SK. Upon graduation he attended STI in Moose Jaw where he studied Civil Engineering. Michael started his career with the Department of Highways in Yorkton, SK. He married Darlene Gawryluik on February 12, 1966 and they started their life together as a married couple living in Yorkton. They were blessed with two children Cynthia and Kevin. In his early years of working, Michael spent many hours on the road supervising highway projects being developed in Saskatchewan at the time. He continued to take on increasing responsibilities and ultimately became an assistant supervisor in the main Yorkton office. After thirty plus years of service, Michael retired from the Department of Highways to pursue his other interests and passions. Michael was a proud and loving father of his daughter Cynthia and son Kevin. He was involved in many of their activities, often serving as a chaperone for their trips and tournaments. He also loved exploring the country roads and the outdoors and shared his passion for camping with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and you could often find Michael fishing year round on the various lakes and rivers in the countryside. Michael enjoyed carpentry in his leisure time and had built many projects for family and friends. He spent many hours in the evening playing cards, listening to Ukrainian music and socializing with friends. Michael was also a member of the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton and hall committee for many years where he volunteered his time with the different events and activities offered by the Church. In addition, he also enjoyed helping out at the Drobot Parish where his parents are buried. The fellowship of working with Parish members and the pride they took in their respective churches always brought him joy to his life. Michael was blessed with four grandchildren who always provided him with much pride and joy. He had a special relationship with each grandchild and they each have their own special memories of Guido. Michael loved reading the newspaper daily and every grandchild loved poking at the paper while he was trying to read it and hide his glasses. Michael also loved his yard and garden - he was always proud to harvest the labours of his love with his grandchildren. Michael loved the attention from his grandchildren and we are thankful that they will have these fond memories of Guido. Michael is survived by his wife Darlene of 50 years; his daughter Cynthia and her husband Michael Tarasoff and grandchildren Kirsten and Kyle of Okotoks, AB, his son Kevin and his wife Sandra and grandchildren Sydney and Nathan of Calgary, AB, his brothers Metro (Iris) and Steve and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She sat on several boards and committees on regional, provincial and national levels. Some of which included: Chairperson for the Parkland Abilities Council in Yorkton, Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the University of Regina (the first woman to ever be elected to the position) and Canada Council for the Arts in Ottawa, ON. She was the first Yorkton resident to be named “Citizen of the Year” in 1983 in recognition of her long time public service. Lorraine loved to cook big meals for family gatherings and taught us that family around the dinner table is the best family to have. Her borscht recipe is heavenly. We will always love you sweet Lorraine. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 55 years Bjorn; daughters: Julianne (Neil), Karen (Walter) and Sharon; grandchildren: Sarah (Aldrick), Kristian, Michael, Julian and Isabella, as well as friends and extended family whose lives Lorraine enriched with her beautiful personality and energy. Lorraine’s family wishes to give special thanks to the nurses and caregivers at the Skinner North #2 unit and the Orkney house who provided care and compassion to her in the last years of her life. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. Please join us in the celebration of all things Lorraine!

KRASOWSKI – In loving memory of John, a loving husband, Father and Grandfather, who passed away February 28, 2015. The moment that you died my heart was torn in two, one side filled with heartache, the other died with you. I often lie awake at night, when the world is fast asleep, and take a walk down memory lane, with tears upon my cheeks. Remembering you is easy, I do it every day, But missing you is heartache that never goes away. I hold you tightly within my heart and there you will remain. Deeply missed by your wife, Beverly, your children and grandchildren

ARTEMEMKO – In loving memory of Janice, January 11, 1946 – February 25, 2014. When I am gone, release me, let me go I have so many things to see & do You mustn’t tie yourself to me with tears Be happy that we had so many years I gave to you my love and you can only guess How much you gave to me in Happiness I thank you each for the love you have shown But now it’s time I travelled on alone So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must Then let your grief be comforted by trust. It’s only for awhile we must part So bless the memories within your heart I won’t be far away for life goes on So if you need me, call & I will come Though you can’t see me or touch me I will be near And if you listen with your heart You’ll hear All my love around you, soft & clear And then when you must come this Way alone I’ll greet you with a smile and say “Welcome Home”

PLAN NUMBER 7-3908 COMPACT, GABLE ROOFED HOME This compact home is well suited for today’s smaller subdivision lot. The gabled roof, covered front veranda and stone and shingle accents lend character to the exterior, while inside, an efficient layout includes everything we’ve come to expect in a contemporary family home. The covered front entry leads to a foyer with a coat closet on the right, as well as a niche for displaying art and collectibles. Directly ahead of the foyer is the great room, where the gas fireplace is placed so it will cast its warmth into the dining area and kitchen. The dining area enjoys a large window, as well as a sliding glass door that opens on to a covered patio, making outdoor meals a breeze during the warmer months. The kitchen is separated from the great room and dining area by a three-seat eating bar and prep island. The double sink is set into a corner, so natural light will enter through two windows. The L-shaped
counter configuration promises efficiency, and a double-doored pantry will provide extra storage space. A powder room is tucked around the corner from the foyer and beyond it, the laundry room has access to the two-car garage. The garage also has a door opening to the backyard. Up the U-shaped staircase, the master suite stretches across the back of the second floor and features a window with an extra deep sill, as well as a roomy walk-in closet. The en suite bathroom includes a shower stall as well as a soaker tub, a great spot to relax after a long day. The two secondary bedrooms share a threepiece bathroom. One of these bedrooms overlooks the front garden, while the other boasts a window with an extradeep sill. Exterior finishes include wooden shingles in the gables and on the upper storey, contrasting with horizontal siding on the rest of the façade. Stone-based pilasters decorate the front porch and the back patio. The front door is flanked by sidelights.
This home measures 37 feet, six inches wide and 51 feet, six inches deep for a total of 1,650 square feet. Plans for design 7-3908 are available for $755 (set of 5), $815(set of 8) and $863 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges. Seeding rates for perennial forages Lorne Klein, PAg Regional Forage Specialist, Weyburn Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture
When seeding perennial forages, there is a common understanding that 10 lbs/ac is the standard correct seeding rate. Not necessarily. A sufficient seeding rate for a seed mix depends upon the plant species you have chosen and the amount of each you include in the mix. Ultimately you want to know the number of seeds per square foot of each species you are applying. According to CFIA regulation, plant species in a forage seed mixture are listed as “percentage by weight”. This is necessary to maintain consistency across the industry. However, the percentage by weight is not representative of the seed counts. The approximate number of seeds/lb varies significantly from one species to another. A chart in the Ministry of Agriculture Forage Crop Production Guide lists the approximate number of seeds/lb of each of the forage species. The seed counts are based on bare, uncoated seed. Comparing legumes, sainfoin has 30,000 seeds/ lb and uncoated alfalfa has 200,000 seeds/lb. Comparing uncoated grasses, hybrid brome has 90,900 seeds/lb and crested wheatgrass (diploid) has 220,000 seeds/lb. A seed mix including 30% alfalfa, 20% sainfoin and 50% hybrid bromegrass by weight would contain about 111,450 seeds/lb. For each pound per acre applied, you would be seeding about 2.6 seeds/ft². A seed mix including 10% alfalfa, 40% sainfoin and 50% hybrid bromegrass by weight would contain about 77,450 seeds/lb. For each pound per acre applied, you would be seeding about 1.8 seeds/ ft². When over seeding across periodic wetland and riparian areas, a combination including 50% alsike clover and 50% reed canary by weight would be an option. This seed mixture
would have about 937,500 seeds/lb. For each pound per acre applied, you would be seeding about 21.5 seeds/ft². The calculations above are based on bare seed. Ask your seed supplier if some or all of the seeds in your mix are coated, and the amount of coating. Typical coatings can reduce seed counts by 35% for alfalfa and 50% for grass. The target number of seeds to apply per square foot varies across soil zones. Generally the range is from 20 seeds/ft² in the Brown Soil Zone to 30 seeds/ft² in the Black Soil Zone. These rates tend to be on the higher end of the scale. Rates 25-50% lower can be used if you are confident that your agronomic practices and establishment conditions result in a high percent of plants establishing. Seeding rhizomatous species such as cicer milkvetch, hybrid brome and smooth brome enable lower seeding rates as these species have the ability to spread and fill in a stand over time. Adding to the seed mix decision is the amount of each species you are targeting for the stand, both in the short and long term. A seed mix with 10 seeds/ft² of both alfalfa and meadow bromegrass will normally be dominated by alfalfa for the first 3-4 years. As the stand gets older, depending upon fertility and haying or grazing management, the normal progression is that the alfalfa declines and the grass becomes more dominant. For fields you intend to bale in the early years and graze in later years, you will want to start with a high percentage alfalfa stand, so you have sufficient alfalfa plants as the stand gets older. Perennial forages are seeded only once every 5-55 years. Take the time to plan your seed mix and increase the chance of getting the stand you are targeting. For more information on seeding rates for seed mixtures, contact me at 306-848-2382, or call the Agriculture Knowledge Centre at 1-866-457-2377, or visit our website at www.saskatchewan.ca.
Luring by spa News of the Weir d They are simply “’spas’ designed to attract teenagers,” according to one university official — plush, state-of-the-art “training” complexes built by universities in the richest athletic conferences to entice elite 17-year-old athletes to come play for (and, perhaps, study at?) their schools. The athletes-only mini-campuses include private housing and entertainment (theaters, laser tag, miniature golf) — but, actually, the schools are in a $772-million-plus “arms’ race” (according to a December Washington Post investigation) because soon after one school’s sumptuous, groundbreaking facility opens, some other school’s more-innovative facility renders it basically second-rate. And of course, as one university
official put it, the “shiny objects” have “nothing whatsoever to do with the mission of a university.” (Donors and alumni provide much of the funding, but most schools by now also tap students’ “athletic fees.”)
Redneck Chronicles — Police in Monticello, Kentucky, charged Rodney Brown, 25, with stealing farm animals and equipment from a home in December — but offering to return everything if the victim (a man) had sex with him. Brown allegedly took 25 roosters, a goat and some rooster pens and other rooster-care equipment. (Because Brown also supposedly said he’d beat the man up if he called police, a “terroristic threatening” count was added to “promoting prostitution.”)
