CHEPIL - Mrs. Jacqueline Chepil (nee Chipuer) of Yorkton entered eternal rest on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 65 years of age. Jacqueline Helene Patricia was born on September 8, 1952 in Melville, SK, eldest daughter of Helen and Edmund Chipuer. Jacki attended St. Henry’s School in Melville and after graduation moved to Yorkton where she met her future husband Ken. Their union was blessed with two children, a son Regan in 1979 and a daughter Amber in 1987. Jacki devoted her life to her family, once Regan was born she worked in the home until Amber was in high school and returned to work until she retired. She doted on her grandchildren who loved to visit her and always looked forward to her time and attention. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, baking, crossword puzzles, her love of music, her guitar, interest in genealogy and also other arts and crafts. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Ken, son Regan (April) of Yorkton, her daughter Amber Johnson (David) of Christopher Lake, SK; three grandchildren: Brett and Violet Chepil of Yorkton and Colter Johnson of Christopher Lake. Also sisters: Leslie (Rod) Varga of Yorkton, Dr. Heather Chipuer O’Neill (Gerard) of Brisbane, Australia, Sandra Chipuer of Yorkton and Geraldine Chipuer of Yorkton; as well as sister-inlaw Diane Fulton of Lethbridge, AB, brother-in-law Len (Kaylynn) of Chilliwack, BC and numerous nieces and nephews. THOMPSON - Clifford Durwin “Kip” Thompson, 1927 - 2017. Clifford Durwin Thompson was born on May 2, 1927 in Dauphin, MB. He was the son of Harold and Olive (nee Shannon) Thompson. He grew up in Dauphin and at a very young age started working with the Canadian National Railway. Clifford was a true pioneer of northern Manitoba. His employment with the CNR spanned 18 years prior starting his entrepreneurial career with the building of the Gold Trail Hotel in 1958 in Ilford, MB. He went on to build the Waskiowaka (Little Churchill River) Fishing and Hunting Lodge in 1962, then build a winter road freighting business called Ilford Northern Construction in 1970. This was followed in 1982 by the formation of a fishing and hunting resort called the Silsby Lake Lodge Fly-In. All of this was accomplished while providing political contributions to his community as the Mayor of Ilford, MB, as the founding member of NACC (Northern Association of Community Councils) and assisting the late Adam Dyck (Chief) with the formation of the War Lake Band to which Clifford did serve once as an Interim Chief. Clifford was involved in all aspects of Northern Manitoba’s growth and development for many years. He was recognized for his many achievements as the recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for the Order of Manitoba. While working for the CNR in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, Clifford met the love of his life, “Mickey” who was working as a telephone operator. An extremely energetic and ambitious couple, they worked together on all of their many business ventures and were proud parents of sons. Kip and Mickey retired in 2010 and made their home in Yorkton where he remained following her passing in 2012. Eventually Kip became a resident of the Theodore Health Centre where he passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the age of 90 years. Clifford was predeceased by his wife, Emily “Mickey” Thompson (nee Scheller); his son, Kirk Thompson; his parents, Harold and Olive Thompson; his brother, Norman and sisters, Hazel and Florence. Left to mourn his passing are his sons, Norman, Robert (Janet), Shane (Tracy), Dean and Todd (Katherine) as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. A Celebration of Kip’s Life was held on Friday, November 24, 2017 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Terry Tompkins officiating. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Abide With Me”, “Amazing Grace”, “Just As I Am” and “Beyond the Sunset”. The Cremation Committal will follow in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. John, with Shane and Todd Thompson serving as his urn bearers. Friends so wishing may make donations in Kip’s name to the Saskatchewan Alzheimer Association or to the charity of one’s choice as tokens of remembrance. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

We will light the candle as we say our Birthday wishes, and when we blow it out we will be sending you 100 kisses. (Poem wriƩen by daughter) A year has gone by, it’s so hard to believe, And each day is tough for us leŌ to grieve. It sounds so cliché, but no words are more true, Our lives forever changed because we don’t have you. Your Ɵme here on earth had come to an end, God held out his hand and said, “Come with me my friend”. We pray for you daily and feel your presence near, But oh, how we wish that you were sƟll here. We wait for the day when God will decide, And pray we’ll be together again side by side. Watch over and guide us, Dad, each step of our way, “As we wait in joyful hope” for the coming of that day. We trust you are safe and at rest up above, As we know God is peace and lled with much love. UnƟl such Ɵme comes we know we’re not apart, You’re always in our prayers and forever in our hearts. Love Always Rita Herchuk, Chris, Rick and Gregory Dubois

On Lindsay Shepherd I’ve been following the news story about Lindsay Shepherd and Wilfred Laurier University with great interest. If you are unfamiliar, Shepherd is a teaching assistant, who presented a video to first year communications students. The video was, actually, a televised debate to illustrate the politics of grammar, and in particular, gender pronouns. Shepherd offered no opinion when she presented the video. That, as it turns out, was her undoing because she ended up being reprimanded for violating the school’s Gendered and Sexual Violence policy. She was bullied by three university administrators but the young lady was smart enough to record the lashing and there is no question her superiors were big time out of line. Laurier has faced significant backlash and have offered a half handed apology but there is no sign of reprimand to Shepherd’s interrogators. Shepherd wasn’t allowed to even learn how many people had complained of her ‘spreading transphobia’ lecture. I suspect, the answer is one. Shepherd was told she was welcome to have an opinion (yet she didn’t give it), but bringing the subject into the context of the classroom can make for an unsafe learning environment for these young adults. The superiors told Shepherd these young adults do not have the critical toolkit to pick apart something of this nature. She was also told what she did
MIKE STACKHOUSE mikestackhouse@hotmail.com
Stackhouse Soapbox was akin to presenting a Hitler lecture. Ah yes, one of the left’s favorite tactics. Compare everything to Hitler. One thing that crazy left wing people always seem to ignore is that the world’s worst rulers and dictators all came from a hard left background. But, I digress. I saw a Tweet last week that put extreme left wing people in the perfect light. It was stated by a retired lawyer, who describes it this way: “Defend and tolerate the most intolerant barbaric cultures in the name of tolerance, then become viciously intolerant to those not tolerant of the intolerant barbaric practices.” The tweet was a response to our Liberal government’s vague program that is designed to treat returning ISIS fighters with love and reintegration. I believe the term we are, officially, using is Returning Islamic Travelers. Unbelievable. Jordan B. Peterson is a lecturer from the University of Toronto and his opinion was the one shown in the video played by Shepherd that has the Laurier administrators deeply offended. Peterson has decided to take on those

who are politically correct with a great deal of vigilance. The video clips I’ve watched of him are not at all hateful. The guy is trying to restore some common sense to a country that let it go running out the door long ago. Peterson gives the best definition of politically correct people that I have ever seen. He says, “It’s an ideological game. The outcome is designed to make the player feel superior and also to take serious axe swings at the foundation of society. They identify a domain of human endeavour and note that some people are doing, comparatively, better and some people are doing, comparatively, worse. Define those doing worse as victims. Define those doing better as perpetrators. Identify with the victims, have a set of enemies handy to vent your resentment towards and then feel good even though it required no work on your part and then, endlessly, repeat.” This couldn’t be any more true, in my opinion. Peterson also says he used to work for Rachel Notley’s father and mother in the NDP and has some very nice things to say about them. So, he can’t be all that radical of a right winger. Yet, Peterson says he also noted that many Party functionaries didn’t like the working class, at all, like they claim. They just hated the rich. In fact, they are so resentful that they are willing to pull down any structure that has hierarchy because of resentment of not being on the top. I think where Peterson strikes a nerve with some folks is his refusal to adopt ‘new’ pronouns to address people. In fact, in the televised video shown to the communications students, Peterson says U of T has made anti-racism and anti-biased training as mandatory for Human Resources employees. He feels it’s an incursion into the domain of political opinion and free speech. When asked if he had taken the training, Peterson says, sharply, “No way, not a chance.” He makes a very good point when talking about how ‘new’ words get introduced and accepted. You don’t ever see words that are created and forced on to people. And, he’s right. For example, the word ‘tweet’ or the word ‘selfie’ have been introduced, almost by accident. Yet, we’ve all accepted them and use them and know what they mean. I have to agree that telling me I ‘have’ to use ze and zir because they are ‘new’ gender neutral pronouns created by some bureaucrat with no work to do is an infringement on my free speech and an attempt to shove something on to society that isn’t, necessarily, welcomed. The entire video is on YouTube. It’s called, ‘Genders, Rights, and Freedom Of Speech’. It’s an hour long, but there are parts of the debate that are fantastic if you are the type of person who enjoys listening to two sides of a story with an open mind. Nice person mentions return next week.
