BECKER - Bernice Ingibjorg Becker (nee Eyjolfson) passed away peacefully at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the age of 76 years. She was born on the family farm north of Churchbridge on April 27, 1940, the eldest daughter of Brandur and Margaret (nee Rathgeber) Eyjolfson. She was baptized on May 19, 1940 at Concordia Lutheran Church and was later confirmed on July 26, 1953. Bernice’s parents moved into town when she was a young child. She attended school in Churchbridge and graduated from high school in 1958. After graduation, she worked at the telephone office as a switchboard operator. Bernice married Erwin Becker on April 24, 1959. They made their home on the Becker Family farm just outside of Churchbridge where she lived until the time of her passing. Bernice and Erwin were blessed with four daughters; Bonnie, Shannon, Lynette and Carroll. She was a stay at home Mom, always there for her girls. Bernice never wanted to be in the limelight and preferred a quiet involvement. However, she was very active and extremely busy with the girls and with community activities. She spent hours with the figure skating club organizing test days, carnivals, selecting music and sewing numerous skating dresses and costumes. She was instrumental in providing music opportunities for the girls in piano, choir and band which eventually led to their chosen careers. She was committed to the Potashville Music Festival and served many years as Entry Secretary and on the Awards committee. Donor’s Choice became important to her and she canvassed and served as treasurer for the local organization. Most important to Bernice was her work for the church. She became a member at Trinity Lutheran Church and spent nearly 43 years as the financial secretary. She also looked after the memorial donations, organized Vacation Bible School, served on the LWML and spent countless hours as a serving group convenor, providing lunches and suppers for many funerals, anniversaries, farewells, etc. Her kitchen table was always covered with sewing fabric, lists, papers or books from any one of those activities. Bernice loved the farm. Given a choice, she preferred to be at home over any other place. She helped Erwin on the farm by hauling grain and by driving the tractor out in the field. Bernice could always be counted on to keep things running smoothly during the busy seasons. She always had a large garden, which included the flowers she loved. She enjoyed fussing over her cats; some whom eventually ended up in the house if they were injured or abandoned. She enjoyed knitting and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Even though she didn’t often sit, her television was always on so she could keep up with her favourite shows; however, she would sit down (and jump up and down) while she watched Roughrider football games. Bernice always loved a good visit and would spend hours and hours on the phone with her cup of coffee in hand. Most of all, Bernice enjoyed the time spent with her family. She made every occasion special, whether it was a birthday, baptism, confirmation, graduation or a wedding. She and Erwin spent many hours babysitting the grandchildren and attending many concerts, recitals, festivals, hockey and ball games. Bernice and Erwin were true partners in every sense. There weren’t many things that Bernice did without Erwin at her side. Bernice was predeceased by infant brother, Delmar, her parents, Brandur and Margaret Eyjolfson and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is survived by Erwin, her loving husband of 57 years; daughters, Bonnie (Jerry) Lisitza, Shannon (Rick) McIntyre, Lynette (Sheldon) Kaminski and Carroll (Kevin) Dyck; Grandchildren, Ashton (Rhose), Bryce and Darnell Lisitza, Brendon (Tara), Riley and Devynn McIntyre, Noah and Kerrigan Kaminski, Jory, Ethan and Jonah Dyck; Great-grandchildren, Drazmine Palma and Kagomae Lisitza; her sister, Wendy (Glen) Schaan; sister-in-law, Erna (Fred) Hutchings; brother-inlaw, John Kurucz, her Godchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. A Service of Comfort for Family and Friends was held on Thursday, May 19, 2016 and the Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 20, 2016. Both services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Churchbridge, SK with Pastor Jeff Dul officiating. The obituary was read by Sheldon Kaminski. The organist, Vallery Putland and pianist, Devynn McIntyre led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Blest Be The Tie That Binds” and “In Christ Alone”. Special music included, “Saviour, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” a saxophone duet by Kevin and Jory Dyck and “For Life and All It’s Richness” sung by Bernice’s daughters, grandchildren and friends. The recessional was “Saviour, Again To Thy Dear Name We Raise”. The Interment Service followed in the Churchbridge Town Cemetery with Bernice’s grandchildren sharing in the honour of being her casket bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

May 11, 2016 surrounded by her family at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre after a brave battle with cancer. She was 65 years of age. Rena was born on April 22, 1951 to Clare and Alice (nee Wilson) Hicks at the Yorkton General Hospital. She attended school in Bredenbury from Grades 1-9 and then in Yorkton. In 1966 she met the love of her life and three years later they were united in Holy Matrimony on October 11, 1969. Rena and Wayne settled in Yorkton where Rena babysat for many families. They were blessed with three children, Tamara in 1971, Melissa in 1972 and Collin in 1975. Rena remained at home to raise her family while continuing to babysit for other families. Once she felt her children were old enough, she began to work at The Yorkton Enterprise/Yorkton This Week in the mail room. She also worked at Astron Movers and Jays Movers until 2000 when she decided to remain at home to babysit her grandchildren. She began working maintenance at Walmart and continued to work there until her illness prevented her from doing so. Rena had many hobbies. She loved flowers and was proud of her flowerbeds in the summer. During the warm months she could always be found with Tamara attending garage sales or holding one herself. Morning was never complete without breakfast and socializing at McDonald’s with friends and neighbours. Rena’s greatest source of enjoyment was her seven granddaughters. She would do anything for them and they tended to know it. Rena had a sincere love for animals of any kind, especially cats. If one of her cats passed away, you could be certain another one would show up on her doorstep to replace it. Rena took in many strays, some of the four-legged variety and some of the two-legged variety. If Rena felt someone need help, they could always have a bed at Rena’s. This is one trait she will be remembered for, her generosity. Rena is predeceased by her parents, Clare and Alice Hicks; her father and motherin-law, Edwin and Theressa Hoffman and one nephew, Cory Hicks. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, Wayne; her daughters, Tamara (Adrian), Melissa; her son, Collin (Tanya); her grand-daughters, Jazmine, Taiya, Jaqueline, Madison, Rhianne, Shae and Avery; her special children, Andrew and Katelyn; her brother, Melvin (Doreen) Hicks; her sister-in-law, Donna Milbrandt and by numerous relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from Heritage Baptist Church, Yorkton with Pastor Brian Kirsch officiating. The pianist, Jeanette Kriger led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “In The Sweet Bye and Bye”, and “The Old Rugged Cross”. A photo presentation with various Elvis Presley spirituals took those friends and relatives gathered down memory lane of Rena’s life. Collin Hoffman and Donna Milbrandt brought special family tributes in memory of Rena. Betty Fritzke read the obituary and shared her memories of Rena. The interment followed in the Bredenbury Town Cemetery with Lorilie Berard, Adrian Hudy, Fergus Wilson, Bill Wilson, Andrew Smuk and Berin Middlemas serving as the Pall bearers. As a charitable expression of sympathy those wishing to remember Rena Hoffman may do so with a gift to The Gideons International at www.gideons.ca or to the Paws & Claws Animal Rescue Inc., Box #1047, Yorkton, SK, S3N 2X3, www. pawsclawsrescue.net or to the Guardian Angels Animal Rescue Inc., Box #1751, Yorkton, SK., S3N 3L4, www.yorktongaar.com Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kopan’s Funeral Service, Highway #9 North, Yorkton. 306-783-0099. www.kopans.ca.

House’s 125th anniversary. This exhibit shares the history of Government House over the last 125 years through the stories of original artifacts. It features a number of unique artifacts, along with multimedia and interactive programming elements. The exhibit is open to the public free of charge during regular hours and will remain on display until October 31, 2016. “Our Stories: Artifacts Tell All! offers a unique and exciting opportunity to learn about Government House and the history behind the building over the last 125 years,â€? Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Mark Docherty said. “This exhibit tells the fascinating stories from an imagined, first person perspective of the more familiar and unique artifacts on display. It’s a fun way to see the artifacts in a new light and I encourage people to come out to visit it.â€? There are also two other new exhibits on display that help mark the 125th anniversary of Government House. A Palace on the Prairies was developed by the Provincial Archives of Saskatchewan and traces the chronological life of Government House and the various uses it was put to over its 125 year history. Votes for Women: Celebrating 100 Years! opened this past March and shares the story of how Saskatchewan women secured the right to vote on March 14, 1916. Government House was built in 1891 and first served as the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories. Restored to the period of Lieutenant Governor AmĂŠdĂŠe Forget who was in office from 1898-1910, the museum offers a glimpse of life at Government House at the turn of the 20th century. Engaging experiences for children and visitors alike are offered at Government House year round, including activities in the Edwardian Gardens during the summer which provide a welcoming green space so visitors can enjoy the richness and beauty of this heritage landmark. For more information about this exhibit and other programming at Government House, please visit www.saskatchewan.ca/govthouse or call 306-787-5773.
