TZUPA - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Gena Tzupa (nee Yarycky). Gena passed away on August 25, 2016 at the age of 76 years. Gena was born on April 28, 1940, the daughter of Fred and Mary Yarycky (nee Wawrow) in the Stenen District of Saskatchewan. Gena grew up on the family farm and attended school at Goldbank. When she was just 15 years old, she went to work (and live) at the Sturgis Hotel as a cook and housekeeper. She then moved to Canora and worked at Billiards & Grill for three years. Gena met Mike Tzupa and the couple was married on August 11, 1961 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Buchanan, SK. They settled in Yorkton, SK and were blessed with three children, Perry, Terry and Corinne. Gena worked in many places including the Yorkton Union Hospital from 1966 until 2000. After working as a Night Supervisor, cook and baker, she finally retired after 34 years of service. In her 16 years of retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, going to the cabin, cooking, baking and gardening. She loved endlessly, laughed loudly and lived generously. Gena was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Mary Yarycky; her brothers, Lawrence (Linda) Yarycky, Mike (Mary) Yarycky and Tony (Jessie) Yarycky. Gena leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her husband, Mike; their sons, Perry (Arlene) Tzupa and Terry (Lois) Tzupa and their daughter, Corinne (Tyrone) Andrychuk; their five grandchildren, Arial, Breann, Kyla, Mercedes and Jesse; her brother, Eddy Yarycky; sisters, Lena Semler, Minnie Andrusiak, Rose Okrainetz and Shirley (Bob) Hanson as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. Gena’s family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the Regina General Hospital for all the compassion and care they shared with our family during this difficult time. The Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. The Requiem Divine Liturgy was sung on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton, SK with Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The Interment Service followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Jesse Tzupa, Breann Andrychuk, Mercedes Tzupa, Les Diakow, Kyla Tzupa and Wayne Fedorchuk serving as the casket bearers. The reception was held at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Cultural Centre where Judy Diakow remembered Gena in tribute and eulogy. NELSON - Isabelle Nelson. November 1, 1928 - August 29, 2016. It is with great sadness that the family of Isabelle (Long) Nelson announce the passing of their mother on the morning of August 29. Isabelle leaves to mourn her loving husband of 67 years, Randy Nelson. Her five children: Helen (Jude), Fred (Janet), Byron (children Conor and Severn {Ben}), Carolyn, (Bruce and children: Bethany {Warren}, Matthew, and Samuel), Nancy (Kenneth and children Amy {Chris} and Ashley). Isabelle was predeceased by her parents Harold and Vera Long, her brother Alfred and her infant brother Harold. Isabelle was born in Naicam, SK on November 1, 1928 and lived there and went to school from grade one to grade twelve. The Long family moved to Saskatoon in the fall of 1946 and Isabelle completed her grade twelve at Bedford Road Collegiate. While at Bedford Road she took part in a play called Sunday Cost Five Pesos. In the fall of 1947 she went to Normal School where she met the love of her life, Randy Nelson. Isabelle and Randy took neighbouring schools in the Elbow area where she taught school for one year. On December 30, 1948 she and Randy were married earning the princely wages of $1300 each per year. Talk about being adventurous! Together Isabelle and Randy moved to two other rural schools: one near Invermay and the other near Melfort as well as to two small towns: Spalding and Simpson. They were soon having adventures in other ways: the babies came thick and fast. Before Isabelle was twenty-four years old there were three little Nelsons running around the teacherage. When Randy completed his B.Ed degree in 1958 they moved to Yorkton where they lived for twenty-five years. It was here that Isabelle became involved in community work. She became an active member of the United Church Women, the United Church Choir and Sunday school, Beta Sigma Phi and the NDP. As well, she thoroughly enjoyed bowling in a women’s league. But most of all she enjoyed the coffee afterwards. As well as being so busy serving her community, Isabelle raised her five children and used her talent to tastefully decorate her home at Lincoln Avenue in Yorkton. She ran a private kindergarten out of the Lincoln Avenue house for several years. (She taught many children to count by having them pick dandelions and carefully count them out!). As if all that activity weren’t enough, between 1975 and 1982 Isabelle knocked on half the doors in Yorkton during three elections. Isabelle’s work was instrumental in Randy’s winning two out of the three elections. Following their loss in the 1982 election, Isabelle and Randy moved to Saskatoon where they have lived for thirty-three years. Once again Isabelle became active in several community organizations: Beta Sigma Phi, volunteering at the Western Development Museum, Luther Care Home and the NDP. While doing volunteer work at Luther Care Home and the WDM she renewed interest in making soft dolls/rag dolls. Each of her daughters, daughters-in-law and granddaughters at the time received a soft doll. And once again her talents for home decorating came to the fore. All three of the residences Mom and Dad owned were beautifully decorated as a result of Isabelle’s talented, artistic eye and hand. For the last four and one half years she and Randy have lived at the Palisades Retirement Residence where they have made many warm friends. The family would like to thank the staff and the many friends there for the support and friendship given to our parents. We would also like to thank the many other friends they have made over the years who have continued to provide encouragement and love, especially since none of their five children live in Saskatoon. Isabelle was full of sparkle and constantly blessed others with her wonderful sense of humour even as her health was failing her. She delighted in many things: dolls, teddy bears, cats, chocolate-but her greatest delight was always her dear Randy and her family. She loved us all generously and faithfully and always with a sweet and pure acceptance so that our relationship with her was direct and uncomplicated, a gift simply to be enjoyed. A bright light has gone out in the world and she will be greatly missed. The funeral service was held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home at 338 - 4th Avenue North at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3. We would like to thank Morgan Edwards at the Saskatoon Funeral Home for the wonderful service and assistance at this sorrowful time. Instead of flowers we would request that those wanting to donate to Isabelle’s memory please contribute to Parkinson Canada or to the Heart and Stroke fund. Condolences may be left at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (306-244-5577).

BILAN - Mrs. Bella Bilan of Yorkton passed away on August 25, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 88 years of age. Bella was born on May 25, 1928 in the Sheho district, a daughter of Wasyl and Anna (Spelay) Byblow. She received her education at Deer Creek Country School. In 1950 she moved with her family to Yorkton and gained employment at Yorkton City Bakery and later at Scott’s Fruit Warehouse. She was united in marriage to Max Bilan on September 8, 1965 in Yorkton and moved to North Bay, ON where Max was employed as an engineer with C.P. Railway. Life in North Bay kept her busy with raising her stepson Robin, who was her pride and joy. One of her favourite stories of him was how he tried to convince her that he could fry an egg on the street because it was so hot…” he tried”. Gardening and playing cards with her sister Pauline and brother-inlaw Harry Corroll, as well as attending Church regularly, occupied a lot of her time. She loved cooking, especially soups and crocheting and embroidery. The birth of her grandson Vladimir to Robin was her and Max’s greatest joy. After Max’s passing in December, 2001 she decided to move to Yorkton in 2003 so that she could stay with her sister Adella. Bella leaves to cherish her memory, stepson Robin (Donna) Bilan and grandson Vladimir Bilan; stepson Leo (Joanne Rosnell Bilan) and granddaughter Eden Rosnell Bilan; sister Pearl Baronasky, brother Morris Byblow, sister-in-law Mary Byblow and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Max; parents Wasyl and Anna Byblow; stepdaughter Phyllis Bilan; sisters Katie (Anton) Haas, Mary (Mike) Fransishyn, Pauline (Harry) Corroll, Donna Byblow and Adella Byblow; brothers John, Metro (Agnes) and Peter and brother-in-law Mike Baronasky. Prayers were held on Monday, August 29, 2016 and the Funeral Liturgy on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the Celebrant. The responses were led by Lorne Stechyshyn and parish choir members. The cross bearer was Robert Byblow and the epistle reader was Bev Esopenko. Reflections of Bella’s life were shared by Robert Byblow. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Dennis Baronesky, Bob Fahy, Henry Tratch, Ken Baker, Wayne Maduck and Peter Kobylka serving as the casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Bella may be made to St. Mary’s Church Fund. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.

REESE - Our beloved Randy Dennis Reese passed away on August 11, 2016 in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. Randy was on a work-related trip for VantagePoint3 Ministries and died suddenly from a heart attack while jogging at Aldergrove Regional Park. Randy was born to Verna Reese Dobko and Dennis Reese on May 18, 1962 in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. The family moved to Yorkton, SK where Randy attended St. Paul’s and Yorkton Regional High School, enjoyed working on the family farm, and eventually, in his stepfather’s electrical shop. Randy came to understand Christ in his life in grade 11. Many faith-filled people in the Yorkton region mentored him. This time became the foundation for much of Randy’s life call. Upon graduating from high school, Randy attended STI in Moose Jaw, SK to obtain his journeyman electrician’s degree. His electrical apprenticeship took him to Calgary, AB where he attended Grace Baptist Church. This was another significant season of Randy being mentored by mature Christ-followers. Randy enjoyed time with friends and in the mountains of Banff and Lake Louise. While in Calgary, Randy was encouraged by Rev. Dr. Warren Hoffman to apply for a ministry team called New Day. Randy was accepted to the team as the sound man. While on New Day, two life-altering events occurred: (1) he understood a call to vocational ministry and (2) he met Susan, who became his wife on July 19, 1986. Randy and Susan were married at Trinity Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Randy attended University of Sioux Falls and obtained a Religion and Philosophy degree in 1990. He then attended Sioux Falls Seminary in which he received a Master of Divinity degree in 1993. During seminary, Randy worked with Oak Hills Baptist Church’s youth ministry. After seminary, he served as director of admissions at Sioux Falls Seminary. The pursuit of a doctorate degree required a move to California in the summer of 1995 where Randy attended Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, studying under Dr. J. Robert Clinton. He received his doctorate of missiology in 2003. In the summer of 1996, Randy and Susan returned to Sioux Falls for Randy to serve as assistant professor of evangelism at Sioux Falls Seminary. In this season of life, Randy’s heartbeat was for developing lay leaders in the church. He founded the ministry of VantagePoint3 in 2000 in an effort to help men and women discover more deeply who God is, who they are and what God desires to do through them. He co-authored two books Spiritual Mentoring: A Guide for Seeking and Giving Direction (InterVarsity Press, 1999) and Deep Mentoring: Guiding Others on Their Leadership Journey (InterVarsity Press, 2012). Randy was blessed to become the father of Liam in April of 2001. He took great delight in being a child of God, a husband, a father, son, brother, founder/president of VantagePoint3 and spiritual encourager to many! Randy loved coffee dates with Susan, chasing Liam, running, walking our dogs Cody, Kady and Rizzo, coffee times with family, projects around the house, coffee times with friends, riding horses, traveling and drinking coffee and reading and drinking coffee. He simply enjoyed life (and loved coffee). Continuing the legacy of Randy’s life are his wife Susan, his son Liam, his mother Verna Dobko and her dear friend Ladner Polowick, his sister Cheryl Reese and her son Justin Reese, his brother Allen Dobko, his sister Cynthia and her husband Kevin Nelson, his in-laws, Duane and Verla Heeren and family, a family loved friend, Tristian Johnson and many relatives and friends in the U.S. and Canada. Randy is preceded in physical death by grandfather John Krochak, grandmother Nellie Krochak, stepfather Peter Dobko, uncle Jerry Krochak, uncle Stan Krochak and cousin Dwayne Krochak. A web link of the Celebration of Life service held at Central Church in Sioux Falls, SD can be viewed at www.vantagepoint3.org. Memorials can be directed to VantagePoint3, c/o Trinity Baptist Legacy Foundation, 1905 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 7V7.

Directly ahead is another flight of stairs that lead up to the open-plan living room, dining area and kitchen.
