BUZINSKI - Mrs. Victoria Buzinski of Gorlitz, beloved wife of the late William Buzinski, peacefully entered eternal life on October 27, 2017 at her home. Victoria Buzinski (Zachary) was born April 5, 1925 on the family homestead in the Arran/Vesna district. She was the middle child of nine children. Victoria completed grades 1 to 8 at Vesna School, Grades IX to X by correspondence and Grade XI at Arran High School. In 1944 Victoria moved to Sturgis where she obtained her Grade XII diploma. In 1945 she attended Teacher’s College (Normal School) in Saskatoon. In September of that year she began her teaching career. Her last nine years of teaching were spent at Gorlitz School where she met William (Wally) who was her life companion for 46 years. Their marriage was blessed by two sons Peter & Michael at which time she left her teaching career and devoted her time to her family. After her sons were grown up she began teaching classes in Ukrainian Art, specifically in the art of Easter Egg writing, the symbols and colour significance. This kept her committed to hold on to her Ukrainian Culture and tradition. She was proud to be a Ukrainian Canadian. Lord Tweedsmuir once said “you cannot be a good Canadian unless you are a good Ukrainian”. Victoria did numerous demonstrations and display for various organizations over the years. Some of which included the Knights of Columbus, The Royal Visit, Sacred Heart Reunion, etc. Victoria was forever grateful to her mother for passing this work of art, a true joy. Her gift of a lifetime was being able to contribute her work of art to Musée Ukraina Museum in Saskatoon. This contribution was recognized by a special blessing from Bishop Michael Wiwchar along with a beautiful icon. Predeceased by her parents William & Maria Zachary; her husband William Buzinski in 1999; sisters Emily Filipowich, Kay Kurylowich, Stephanie Witow and Anne Hubic and brother Peter at infancy; Victoria leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Peter (Cheryl) Buzinski of Yorkton and their sons, Travis (Kallie) Buzinski, Jared and Bryan Buzinski and Michael (Joy) Buzinski and their sons Daniel, Christopher and Timothy Buzinski; sisters Jean (Harry) Michasiw and Rose (Edward) Swiecicki, all of Winnipeg and all her nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends was held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Very Rev. Father Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. and Rev. Fr. Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as Concelebrants. The responses were led by cantor, Lorne Stechyshyn and St. Mary’s choir. The cross bearer was Edward Swiecicki and the epistle reader was Michael Buzinski. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Travis Buzinski, Daniel Buzinski, Jared Buzinski, Christopher Buzinski, Bryan Buzinski and Timothy Buzinski serving as the casket bearers. Prior to the memorial dinner, words of remembrance were shared by Travis and Daniel Buzinski. Memorials honouring Victoria’s life may be made to St. Mary’s Church as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.

Death Notices

GRIFFITH - Lloyd. 1946 - 2017. Mr. Lloyd McKinley Griffith passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice in the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the age of 70 years. Lloyd was born in Yorkton, SK on December 6, 1946. He was the second son of Amos and Aggie Griffith of the Bangor District. Lloyd was a farm boy through and through and some of his fondest memories were of his childhood days on the family homestead with his brother, Morgan and sisters, Donna and Gloria. He loved the outdoors, animals and building many inventions and motorized contraptions, including a go-cart that he and Morgan built with the motor they stole off of their father’s grain auger. Lloyd grew up attending school in Bangor and the Luton School District. As a young man, Lloyd pursued a career as a journeyman weldor. This trade suited his meticulous nature; so meticulous as to always note that weldor with an “o” is a person who welds and welder with an “e” is a machine. Lloyd plied his trade in various industries and he would go on to further his education at the University of Saskatchewan, allowing him to teach in the trades. It was while working in the Oil Industry in Alberta in the late 1960s that Lloyd met the love of his life, Pamela Hyde, on a blind date. The couple were married in 1972. Lloyd taught welding and auto body at the Estevan Comprehensive High School from 1972 to 1976. Following a short return trip to the oil-patch in Alberta, Lloyd and Pam chose to move back to Bangor to farm with his father and brother in 1978. The following year, Lloyd began teaching the pre-employment welding course at the Parkland Regional College in Yorkton, a position he held for over twenty years. He also did consulting work for the Province’s Department of Education and contributed to writing the curriculum that was used to train apprentice welders through the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology. Over the years, Lloyd trained hundreds of men and women in the welding trade and took great pride and satisfaction from mentoring and teaching young people. Lloyd was a true ‘car guy’ whose interest in classic cars was a lifelong passion. Whether it was tinkering in his shop, attending swap meets or car shows, some of Lloyd’s most enduring friendships and greatest joys came from his involvement in the car community. In addition to his love for anything with an engine, Lloyd was passionate about music - a gift he received from his father and passed on to his daughters. A testament to his Welsh roots, Lloyd was an accomplished singer and guitar player and a huge fan of gospel, folk and country music. Pam and Lloyd stayed on the family farm north of Bangor for twenty-seven years. During this time, Lloyd was integral in forming two community groups that contributed to preserving the local history and culture of the Bangor area: the Welsh Male Voice Choir and the Bangor & District Heritage Club. He also owned and operated a small auto body restoration and repair business for many years. A few years after Lloyd’s cancer diagnosis in 2002, he and Pam sold the farm and retired to Red Deer. The last fifteen years of Lloyd’s life was spent meeting many new friends, playing music, traveling to car shows, spending time with his grandchildren and building and working in his prized shop - fondly nicknamed the “Taj Garage”. Lloyd’s health had declined significantly over the past year, but with the loving and patient care of his wife, he was able to live at home as long as possible before spending his final days in hospice. The family is immensely grateful for the fellowship and kindness of the Central Alberta Prostate Cancer Support Group and for the many dedicated health care professionals who cared for Lloyd on Unit 32 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and the Red Deer Hospice and specifically Dr. Willem Myburgh, a wonderful physician and caring friend. Lloyd was predeceased by his mother, Aggie in 1983, his father, Amos in 1995 and a brother Morgan in 2015. Lloyd is survived by his wife of fortyfive years, Pamela Griffith, daughter, Gwyneth (Bryce) Sunderland and their children, Cayden and Bronwyn, daughter, Megan Griffith, sister, Donna (Brian) Roebuck, sister, Gloria (Kalvin) Rathgeber, sister-in-law, Susan Griffith, sister-in-law, Pat (John) Alexander, aunt, Marion (Ken) Dunn; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. A Funeral Service will be held at Gaetz Memorial United Church, 4758 Ross Street, Red Deer, AB on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm, officiated by The Reverends Susan Griffith and Daryl Woods. A Private Interment will be held at the Horn Hill Cemetery, Penhold, AB. If desired, Memorial Donations in Lloyd’s honour may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society at www.reddeerhospice.com. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 - 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.

Death Notices

YAHOLNITSKY - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our aunt, Victoria (Vicki) Yaholnitsky, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the age of 93. Vicki had a wonderful sense of humour and was a favourite among all of her nieces and nephews. Vicki was born in Yorkton, SK on April 17, 1924, a twin to Orest Yaholnitsky and youngest daughter to Peter and Antonia Yaholnitsky. Vicki was a hard worker and some of her first jobs were working at the Co-op Creamery and delivering milk with a horse-drawn cart. She later became a receptionist for her brothers, Dr. Michael and Dr. Richard, in their medical practise in Yorkton. Following that, she became receptionist and assistant to her brother, Dr. Stephen, in his dental practice. Vicki had a strong sense of family. When she was younger, she spent hours babysitting her nieces and nephews. She was athletic and enjoyed playing ball and skating. She was artistic and would draw and paint photos. We have several black and white photos that she had enhanced with colour. She was a carpenter in a time when women didn’t participate in such activities. She assisted brother Steve in building his house, their mother’s house and Steve’s daughter’s home in Esterhazy. Vicki enjoyed being outdoors and for a time, owned a cabin at Good Spirit Lake. Bragging was part of the family comradery and she was quite willing to show off her arm muscles to her nieces and nephews or to brag about the number of perogies she could eat in one sitting. Vicki compiled photo albums, highlighting different members of the family and documented important events in the family bible. Later on in her life, she lived with her mother and sister Jean, taking care of each of them when they became infirm. Vicki had a firm faith and prayer was an important part of her life. Vicki is predeceased by her parents, Peter and Antonia (nee Kowalyshyn); eight brothers, Steffan (who died in infancy), Emil, Dr. Samuel, Dr. Michael, Nester who was killed overseas in WWII, Dr. Richard, Dr. Stephen and Orest; four sisters, Ann Dumka, Julia Bahrey, Jean Yaholnitsky and Della Windjack and nephews and nieces, Doug Dumka (son of Ann), Robert Yaholnitsky, Douglas Yaholnitsky (sons of Emil), Michael Yaholnitsky (son of Michael) and Gwyneth (daughter of Stephen). In accordance with Vicki’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Vicki’s Life will be announced and held at a later date. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
