KNEZACEK - Albin James Knezacek was born in Esterhazy on December 21, 1935. He was one of seven children born to William and Emma Knezacek. Albin lived his childhood years in the Esterhazy area and then moved into Yorkton where he and his wife Alice (nee Friesen) raised their seven children, Dennis, Donna, Donald, Ardell, Brenda, Bernice and Darwin. Albin spent many years as a professional painter, his hobbies involved working on cars and a passion for fixing anything with a small engine. Albin was known for his love of country music, with favourites like Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride, and he showed this through his love for dancing. Albin was also well known for his love of telling jokes. Whenever you talked to him, he had a funny joke to make you smile and laugh. As Albin slowed down in life, he loved to have coffee with his friends Clive, Gerald and Don. Albin was very close to his younger brother David Knezacek, who came to town to visit and go for coffee. Albin will be missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Albin passed on December 18, 2015, just three days before his 80th birthday in the comfort of his home with his partner of many years Corrine Bryan. A small private service was held for family and friends to say their goodbyes on December 22, 2015 at Bailey’s Funeral Home. Sons and Daughters, if you have a Dad, give him the gift of love and forgiveness…..give him the gift of Christmas, call him and wish him a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It is with hope and faith that our Dad was received by Jesus Christ the Lord into Heaven for Eternity. SCHWAB Rodney Brain Schwab. Rod passed away on December 15, 2015, after a brave fight with cancer. Rod was truly one of a kind; he could light up the room with his crazy sense of humour and his quick wit. He could think his way out of a sticky situation and make everything work. It didn’t matter if it was an old piece of machinery, a wrecked car, a broken toaster, or an injured puppy; give Rod two shoelaces, a stick of gum and he could fix it. His kindness and compassion was felt by everyone who met him. He always cared for others and did whatever he could to help someone else. Rod had the biggest heart! He believed in honesty, justice and hard work. He was never afraid to tell you exactly how he felt and would fight for the underdog. Rod leaves to mourn, his wife Sharon; three beautiful children Brent, Chelsea and Steven; two wonderful grandchildren Linden and Payten Schwab; one sister Judy and one brother Rick. He also leaves his extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins who also mourn and will remember him fondly. May you rest in peace Rod. God bless you and your loving heart. A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 2015. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Ponoka Food Bank. There’s still time to send flowers to the Funeral Service at the Ponoka Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Dec 19, 2015. SHEVERNOHA - Walter Shevernoha, beloved husband of Natalie Shevernoha of Ituna. It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the loss of Walter Shevernoha, devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Walter passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in the early hours of Thursday, December 17, 2015 while in the Intensive Care Unit in Yorkton General Hospital at the age of 79 years. Walter was born at White Beech, SK on August 8, 1936 a son of Joe and Carol (nee Ewachewski) Shevernoha. He attended school at Border Road. At the age of 9, his family moved to Pelly where he completed his education. He was employed at the Coop Creamery where over 25 years of service he spent time in Canora, Swift Current and then the head office in Regina. He quickly worked his way up to Office Manager. During his early years at the Dairy he met the love of his life, Natalie (Patron) from Ituna, SK. They were married in Yorkton, SK on September 22, 1962. They were blessed with three children; Ray, Denise and Rick. In 1975, Walter left his job at the Dairy to pursue his dream of becoming his own boss. For 27 years Walter, Natalie and the children served the town of Ituna providing Gas, Groceries, Lottery and Convenience items, usually working 6 days every week from sunrise to sunset. Then on his day off Walter would travel to Yorkton to pick up groceries to restock the shelves. Time and time again Walter would open up the store to help someone who desperately needed fuel. Walter was predeceased by his infant brother, Vladimir, his parents, Joe and Carol, sister, Sophie Sernowski and brother-in-law Bill Sernowski. He is survived by his loving wife, Natalie of 52 years; three children, Ray and (Sandi) Shevernoha of Wakaw, Denise Smysniuk of Ituna, Rick and (Denise Flower) Shevernoha of Delta, BC; five grandchildren, Delon, Chase, Levi, Cruz and Cypress; sister, Geraldine as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Walter’s treasures were his grandchildren. He would travel the province and could often be seen sitting in the stands or standing on the sidelines of whatever sporting event was in season. He was always up for a fishing trip and more often than not the stories were better than the fishing. He was the local taxi for all the Aunties’ road trips. He took tremendous pride in his park-like yard. If you ever came to visit, you were guaranteed a friendly welcome, warm hospitality and a tour of the yard with updates on what variation of tomatoes or potatoes he was trying to grow. Then you would get the latest report on how the squirrels were getting into the bird feeders. He often laughed at how he was a minority owner of the Riders and he loved to watch and talk football. And anyone who has been at his house is sure to have heard those famous words….”Come on, have a beer” Walter or as he was better known, “Wally”, was a very hospitable, humble, religious and kind person. He easily found humour in everyday events, always kept the mood light, and kept us giggling throughout each and every day. His presence will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. We, the family, feel extremely grateful and blessed for our life and memories with him. Vichnaya Pamyat! - Eternal Memory! The Funeral Liturgy was celebrated on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 from Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ituna with Rev. Fr. Boris Kyba, C.Ss.R., Very Rev. Peter Pidskalny, C.Ss.R. and Bishop Emeritus Michael Wiwchar, C.Ss.R. as the Concelebrants. Granddaughter, Cypress Shevernoha served as the cross bearer. The Epistle reader was Patty Wenarchuk. Honourary Bearers were everyone that was a part of Walter’s life. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery with grandsons, Delon Smysniuk, Chase Shevernoha, Cruz Shevernoha, Levi Shevernoha and nephews David Wenarchuk and Brian Patron serving as casket bearers. Memorials in memory of Walter may be made to the Sacred Heart Parish Special projects fund as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com. ANDERSON - Rusty Anderson passed from life peacefully on December 19, 2015 at Lakeside Manor Care Home in Saltcoats with her son Donnie and his family at her side. Rusty was born Ilene Mary Hoskins on February 27, 1916 in Balgonie, SK. She was the fourth of eight children born to Charles and Lena Hoskins who moved their family to Broadview in 1924 to run a butcher shop. The shop unfortunately burned a few years later. After completing high school, Rusty ran the Broadview telephone office until she married Dunc (Donald) Anderson on November 9, 1949. Rusty was always proud to have played third on the curling team which won the Grand Aggregate in the Broadview local bonspiel in 1950. That trophy, along with her many bowling trophies, was displayed in her home until she moved to the care home three years ago. Rusty and Dunc moved from Broadview to Cowessess when he got a job as Indian Agent. Their daughter Joey was born in 1951 and son George in 1954. In 1955 Dunc was transferred to White Bear, but close ties were kept with Broadview as they purchased a summer cabin at Sunset Beach on Crooked Lake in 1957, a place much loved by Rusty and her family. In 1958, the main event was the birth of Rusty’s youngest son Donnie on December 20. She was 42 and in her remaining 57 Christmases was never able to top that as a present to her family. In 1963, Dunc was transferred to Battleford and then to Kamsack in 1968. His subsequent transfer to Yorkton in 1969 was the last, as he passed away in 1972 leaving Rusty a widow at age 56 with 13 year old Donnie still at home. Rusty became a grandmother in 1988, first to Dana who was born in May, and then to Donald in August. Chris followed in 1991, Jillian in 1992 and Sarah in 1993. She enjoyed having babies to rock and took great pleasure in knitting for her grandchildren. She also loved to have them come to visit or go to visit them. Her only great grandchild, Natalie, was born in 2012. Rusty enjoyed and kept in touch with her and Dunc’s large families and many friends over the years. She has mourned the loss of her eldest brother James, sisters Merle and Eva (Benson), brother Johnny and youngest brother Edmund (Red). She is survived by her brother Charlie and sister Tresea Rourke. Rusty has also mourned the loss of many of her and Dunc’s relatives and friends in recent years, and she in turn will be remembered and missed by her children, grandchildren, her brother and sister, her in-laws, nieces, nephews and remaining friends, most of whom are from the Broadview, Battleford and Yorkton areas. Rusty’s funeral service will take place in May with interment in the Broadview Cemetery. To view service details or to leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.matthewsfuneralhome.ca. Arrangements are entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home, Melville and Whitewood.
