GELLERT - Mrs. Dorothy Gellert of Yorkton, formerly of the Stornoway district, beloved wife of the late Oscar Gellert passed away October 8, 2015 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She was 89 years of age. Dorothy Eleanor Gellert was born August 14, 1926, SW of Willowbrook, she was the oldest child of Theodore and Julia Starr (Wrishko). The family lived in Willowbrook and Yorkton at times, before settling in their home on James Ave. Dorothy attended Simpson School, learning to skate there at an early age. Grandma Sarah Starr taught her embroidery and to knit. She was able to knit two dresses for her baby sister Marlyn in 1936 and her teacher Miss Baldwin entered these in fairs in Regina & Yorkton. In December 1939 the family moved to Margo where they operated Margo Motors. While finishing grade 8, she learned telephone operator work, but soon was working at Otterdahl’s General Store, after school, weekends and holidays. Those were rationing days when sugar had to be bagged and wrapped in small portions. Following summer classes at Saskatoon Normal School she taught two years at Patten School, between Kuroki and Kylemore, boarding with Sis and Frank Van Patten. In May of 1946 they awoke one morning to find the school burned down. The grade 8’s wrote their exams in the Van Patten house. When her family moved back to Yorkton in 1946, she decided to take her grade 12 as Y.C.I. She taught grades 1 & 2 for two years in Rhein. During this time she met Oscar Gellert of Stornoway. They were married on October 14, 1949. The couple farmed in the Stornoway district until Oscar’s sudden passing in 2006. In 2007 Dorothy moved to Yorkton and resided at Queen Elizabeth Court where she enjoyed many activities and socializing with friends. Dorothy and Oscar were blessed with three children and four grandchildren, Rhonda (Gary) Kyle and Cassie of Saskatoon, Karen of Yorkton and Grant (Candy), Jenna and Brianna of Stornoway. PLAN NUMBER 5-3641 WRAP-AROUND VERANDA DESIGN A wraparound veranda and an arch-top dormer window add to the exterior appeal of this single-level design. With its open living areas and flexible floor plan, the home would be ideal for either a growing family or for empty nesters. The den, just off the sky lit foyer, is particularly attractive, with a sloping ceiling, bay window and a view of the front garden. If the homeowners need a third bedroom, this room could easily serve that purpose. An archway off the hall leads to the open living area at the rear of the house, where the family will have plenty of space for all their daily activities. The kitchen is a delight, with a walkin pantry and a central island, where the cook will be able to talk to other members of the family while preparing the meals. The dining room,
which is large enough for entertaining, has a sloping ceiling and is designed to accommodate an optional buffet, if desired. On one side, a door opens to the veranda and at the rear, sliding glass doors offer access to a covered patio. The expansive great room also has a sloping ceiling, as well as a corner fireplace. Large windows make sure this whole area is bright with natural light. Double doors open to the master suite, which has a boxedout window overlooking the back garden. A four-piece en suite bathroom includes a corner soaker tub and a separate shower. The second bedroom also has a boxed-out window and is located immediately alongside the main bathroom. The double garage has a side door and access to the house through the laundry room. The house is 48 feet wide and 51 feet, 6 inches deep with 1,399 square feet of living space. Plans for design 5-3-
641 are available for $625 (set of 5), $710(set of 8) and $778 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. MEETING POSTPONEMENT Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, 2015 – 7 p.m. that was to be held at the Saltcoats Community Hall, Saltcoats, Sask. to provide information on the new regulations around drainage by a representative from the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency has been postponed until a later date to be yet determined.
Reason for Postponement: While the Water Security Agency (WSA) has recently announced new regulations around drainage, significant work still remains to develop important policy initiatives that will form the bulk of the new approach to water drainage in Saskatchewan. Consequently, the Water Security Agency is unable to present sufficient information on this to address a Public Meeting at this time. SWA is working on an education and communication strategy for release in the near future once policy development is complete. Council will be setting a date for another Public Meeting in the future once this information from the Water Security Agency is available. If more information is required, please contact the R.M. Office at 306-744-2202. Dated at Saltcoats, SK this 14th day of October, 2015 Ronald R. Risling Administrator

City’s Public Awareness Report By Calvin Daniels Staff Writer
City Manager Lonnie Kaal presented the now regular Public Awareness Report at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council. The items presented were;
Broadway Street East (Highway 10 East) Construction
Following a long summer construction season
I’m happy to report that the Broadway Street East (Highway 10 east) project has been completed. This is the first concrete road resurfacing project in the city and we expect the new roadway will last between 30 and 50 years compared to between 10 to 15 years for asphalt. Given the tender costs were marginally different between asphalt and concrete, we felt concrete was excellent value for the money invested.
The cost of this project was $2,550,000.00, including $1.9 Million in funding from the provincial Ministry of Highways and Transportation Urban Connector Program.
Dracup Avenue North Construction Upgrades to Dracup Avenue North infrastructure are complete, and base work prior to concrete resurfacing is underway. Access to the Trades and Technology
Centre continues to be from York Road only. The Dracup Avenue/ Darlington Street intersection has been temporarily paved to eliminate the rough surface until the roundabout can be constructed next year.
rust and sediment, and crews will be working every evening from 8:00 P.M. through 6:00 A.M. daily until completed. The flushing process will move from the west to the east side of the city and should be completed this week.
Water Main Flushing The City began flushing water mains on the city’s west side Sunday evening, October 18. Flushing is required to remove accumulated
Fall Street Sweeping Fall Street Sweeping took place last week and is now complete for this year.
Winter Overnight Parking Enforcement
Keeping major streets clear of vehicles will enable City crews to clear the snow in an efficient and cost effective manner. This winter, vehicles on arterial streets posted with the signs “No Parking 3 AM – 7 AM” will be ticketed and subject to towing and impoundment at the owner’s expense. The ban will be in effect between Nov. 1, and April 1.
An eastern tilt to Liberal victory
On the same night Justin Trudeau’s Liberals won the federal election, I sit here and ponder what this means for Canadians. To sum it up, I think we will be given incentives to car pool to work while terror cells find it a little easier to set up shop in our country. I think there is a chance tax dollars coming in will go up if they follow through on their promise to legalize marijuana,
but small business may become a thing of the past since Mr. Trudeau seems to think the people that drive our local economies are, merely, wealthy people in hiding. All in all, it’s not at all what the people of Saskatchewan want since our citizens voted, overwhelmingly, to keep the Conservatives in power. Not to mention Alberta and Manitoba did much the same. But, the east
is where the population is and the east needs to draw from the west to

representative. I think an investigation should be done. I don’t think anybody with a pulse that’s capable of assembling adult thoughts live there. How bad are the other candidates? There are three games left in the Saskatchewan Roughrider season and, finally, a sign that someone other than Elizabeth May is in charge of that outfit. Interim General Manager Jeremy O’Day traded away Kevin Glenn and Jerome Messam and has deactivated kicker Paul McCallum so the team can look at younger players. I think it’s too late to get a real good gauge on people; but it can’t hurt.
If you are ever contemplating going to a Winnipeg Jets game, I traveled on Sunday and I was exactly five hours going from my door to the parking lot at MTS Centre. Most days you could do it about 15 minutes or so faster because there won’t be highway construction. I left at 6:30 in the morning to attend a game that started at 1pm (Sask time). I was back home on my couch by 9:45 that same night. It’s a full day, but well worth it. The Jets put on a great show for entertainment. The quality of an NHL game is not comparable when in person if trying to relate it to television. It’s fantastic.
Nice person mentions to Peter Zerbin, Chris Nykolaishen, Roman Jaworsky, Craig Zamzow, Dee Johns, and Grayson Reitmeier.

prop itself up and be, somewhat, sustainable. The Conservatives are your enemy in the east as far as this is concerned, so what we have is a new federal government. I wonder what the Liberals have planned for our broken justice system. I have two examples of miscarriages this week that should be alarming. In Manitoba, a woman applied for a restraining order in May to keep her boyfriend away from her. She said the man had beaten her multiple times over a two year period, including while she was pregnant. The judge analyzed her request and said to grant a restraining order is an extraordinary remedy and that she hadn’t been assaulted in about six weeks, so there is no urgent need to keep the man away from her. Well, the woman is dead and the boyfriend is charged with killing her last week. In New Brunswick, a man has been granted temporary absence from prison two years into a fifteen year sentence for trying to kill a woman. The reasons for this privilege aren’t known, but what is known is that he shot a woman as she fled
from her home on a frigid January night. She’s required multiple surgeries and suffers from post traumatic stress disorder. Do those two examples sound like something a new government should take a look at, or would it be better to go to a climate change conference and come back and suggest to Canadians that we stop heating our homes in the dead of winter and start using a horse and wagon to get to work? On a serious note, it’s examples like what I’ve outlined above that concern me a great deal when it comes to victims of domestic violence being reluctant to come forward. There is no justice and nothing but pain, anguish, and danger for a woman to step up and try to get an abuser out of her life through the legal system. NDP leader Thomas Mulcair made a fatal error by campaigning on a ‘defeat Stephen Harper’ basis. What happened was that the electorate decided they agreed with Mulcair’s demand, but also decided his party wasn’t the one best suited to do it. They’ve taken two steps back and I’m not sure where they go from here. Frankly, being a person who opposes socialist beliefs, for the most part, I’m not going to lose sleep over it. I have never been to Saanich-Gulf Islands in British Columbia, but that must be a heckuva place to vote in Elizabeth May as your government
