Yorkton Regional High School 2017 Valedictory Address Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. On behalf of my graduating class, I would like to thank all family, friends, teachers, and other faculty members for joining us today. I am more than honoured to be the Yorkton Regional High School’s 50th Valedictorian, and to have the opportunity to represent my class at our 2017 commencement ceremony. I have often heard that the Valedictory address is serious however I didn’t have my nose in my books for the past four years just to write a speech to put a theatre to sleep. I am proud to commemorate our journey, achievements, and give some last words as we all go our separate ways. Today is a turning point in all of our lives. We have spent four years working toward this very moment and now it is time to move on to the next chapter in our life. Before we can celebrate our remarkable achievements, we must

of course remember how it all started. Ah yes, Raider For a Day. With braces on our teeth, bad haircuts, and our not-sostylish outfits; we were a mixture of enthusiasm, panic, and of course a lack of awareness for how to properly walk in the hallways. But we soon figured out that if you dare walk on the left side of the hallway, you were utterly doomed. Looking back now, it’s hard to believe that this journey is near it’s end. As we sit on this stage, we have champions in Robotics, Mechanics, track and field, photography, and everything in between. Over the past four years, we worked hard, but we were no strangers to a good laugh. Like the time we cheered on Michael Dobrowolski for winning the Regional’s “Christmas Sweater Contest”.... He goes to Sacred Heart. But we didn’t say anything, we welcomed him and got a good laugh out of it. We know we couldn’t

Brooklyn Park have gotten here without the endless support from our teachers. Without your encouragement and reassurance, we would not have been able to reach the academic cornerstone of graduation. Our teachers always went above and beyond to make sure we understood the material, and even made the occasional joke with us to help pass the time. I’m sure none of us will forget Mr. Clarke’s favorite form of academic

Congratulations Grads! We are proud to support the students of our community.

torture; the rolling of the dice. If the phrase “Prize Question!!” doesn’t still give you a bit of anxiety, let’s just say consider yourself lucky. However, very few of us escaped the dreaded study hall. Although it was stressful at the time, we most definitely learned the importance of keeping up with our studies and always being prepared. The lessons we learned from all of you, our teachers, are more than just the curriculum material. You taught us worthwhile life lessons that we will carry with us wherever our life takes us. For this, we thank you from the bottom of of hearts. To our parents, thank you for celebrating our accomplishments with us, but also for wiping away our tears during the tough times. From cheering us on during a Friday night basketball game, or attending our band concerts; you were always our biggest fans. The love, support, and kindness you gave to us all throughout the past thir-

teen years is irreplaceable. To my parents, I promise to carry myself through the next stages of my life in a way that will make you feel honoured and proud to call me your daughter. Thank you for spending this special day with me, but more importantly thank you for all of your inspiration and love throughout this entire journey. Finally, to my class. Today is not only about reminiscing on the past, it’s about moving forward into our future. As we begin the next chapter of our lives, we should never stop searching for happiness and the people who bring it to us. Let life surprise you, live in the moment, and follow your passion. Life is short; appreciate the present and wake up with determination. The unknown of our future may seem frightening, but our journey is only beginning. We will learn new things, meet new people, and make lifelong friends. The

future is ours to create, and I urge you to embrace the opportunity before you. As I look over each one of your faces, I see a talented group of young adults that is ready to take this life changing step. Looking back, there were probably many times when we could not wait for this day to come. But now that it is here, it seems we want to hold on to the last fading moments in our high school journey. Don’t look back with regrets, but rather make these last few moments in our journey count. To each and every one of you, thank you for making my high school journey an unforgettable experience. Today is our day, and likely the last time we will all be together. So give thanks, appreciate every single moment, and end this journey by making memories that will last you a lifetime. Congratulations!
