Gun regulation changes deferred for two years Garry Breitkreuz, Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville, has announced that the Government of Canada is deferring the implementation of the United Nation’s Firearms Marking Regulations for two years, until December 1, 2015. Compliance with the U.N. marking regulations has been deferred by successive federal governments since becoming
law in 2004 because the regulations are too cumbersome and costly for the firearms industry to comply with says Breitkreuz. “Firearms importers weren’t even consulted before these regulations were introduced by the previous Liberal government. As currently written, many firearms manufacturers would have to undergo significant and costly retooling – crippling a viable
industry and making Canada’s hunting and other gun sports in Canada increasingly unaffordable. We’re talking about a multi-billion dollar industry that would simply close shop in Canada putting thousands of Canadians out of work, he says. Canada signed, but did not ratify, the U.N. Firearms Protocol in 2004, drafted to regulate
the international movement of firearms. The marking of firearms is one of several requirements of the international treaty. To comply, Canada requires regulations for the marking of firearms. “The current system in Canada works just fine, says Breitkreuz. “These U.N. regulations will not increase public safety in this country. Having an international body regulate the
domestic affairs of member nations is ridiculous. Its ‘one-sizefits-all’ approach is completely unrealistic. The government has deferred the marking regulations in order to consult on the best solution for this legitimate licensed industry, including the possibility of repealing these regulations that Breitkreuz says, have now sat dormant for nearly a decade.
CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS PAST – The Western Development Museum once again celebrated the Christmas past, with schools from throughout the region participating in the program, which teaches kids about celebrating Christmas from years gone by, through crafts, wagon rides and a museum scavenger hunt. The event, now in its 11th year, hosted over 900 children this year, including the kids from KidZone, pictured above.

Record crops for Sask. It’s been an excellent year! According to the numbers Saskatchewan producers have harvested the largest crop in the province’s history and surpassed the 2020 target set out in the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth. The latest estimates from Statistics Canada indicate Saskatchewan’s 2013 crop is 38.4 million tonnes, exceeding the Growth Plan goal to increase crop production to 36.6 million tonnes by 2020. “Saskatchewan producers deserve credit for the effort and dedication that went into this record-breaking crop,” says Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart. “We set an ambitious goal for crop production and our producers proved they were up to the challenge. A harvest of this size is not possible without the hard work of everyone involved in the agri-
culture industry and I commend them for this significant accomplishment.” The 2013 crop is 40 per cent above 2012 production and 48 per cent above the 10 year average. Saskatchewan’s canola crop is estimated to be the largest on record at 8.9 million tonnes, an increase of 37.5 per cent over 2012. Production levels for wheat, canola, peas, lentils, chickpeas, oats and flax are all estimated to be above the 10 year average. “There are many variables that go into producing a successful crop with weather being one of the most important,” Stewart adds. “However, the innovation of our producers and the research capacity in Saskatchewan will ensure our province will continue to be a world leader in agriculture production.”

Don’t teach by telling, but by showing Ed, my neighbor next door, says that you should never tell a person how to do something. Show the person how to do it instead, and then watch him do it on his own. If he can do it on his own, he has learned something; if he cannot do it on his own, then show him how to do again. I asked Ed how many times that he would show me how to drive his new combine next summer? “Not even once, he answered, “the combine is too valuable to let you learn to drive it. You might wreck it. I wasn’t sad that Ed doesn’t trust me enough to teach me how to drive his combine. I guess we all decide if and how much we will teach someone else. If Ed wanted to preach a sermon, I wouldn’t trust him in the pulpit as I’d be afraid that he would trash the word of
Neighborly Advice According to Ed by Raymond Maher www.accordingtoed.com God. Teaching by example is not an easy thing to do. Showing how to do something means we have to do it first. When we do something first, we prove it can be done. Jesus came to be with us on earth that we might see and follow his example of love to God his Father in heaven, and to everyone on earth. Jesus though tempted to sin did not sin. He obeyed the laws of God for us completely. His example was perfect. Teaching by example is good, but the exam-
ple we set is never totally flawless. God’s law is not popular because it makes us conscious of sin in ourselves and our lives. The law of God frustrates us because we cannot keep it perfectly. If we ignore the law, it still sticks around to trouble us, and make us yearn for something better within us. Everyone has a conscience that will not be silenced completely. Since Adam and Eve, sin has always been a reality of the world and people’s lives. Out of the heart comes; evil
thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, and slander. God gave the Ten Commandments because folks can get so hardened in conscience that they don’t know the difference between right and wrong. God gave Jesus Christ his Son because people cannot keep the laws of God by their own effort or will. Knowing what is the right thing to do, does not mean we will do it. Sometimes we do the wrong thing because we aren’t aware of what is right. Mostly we sin because it satisfies our sinful nature even though it is deadly for us. Hatred, discord, jealousy, slander, sexual immorality, and drunkenness are common and not easily given up. Sin is our greatest addiction, and there is only one cure for it. The cure is faith
in Jesus Christ. Jesus was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. God acted in love in Jesus. God reconciled the world to himself in him, not counting men’s sins against them. Our sins have been charged to Christ, the Savior, and Christ’s righteousness has been credited to us. God did this in Christ that we would follow Christ’s example and serve God and our neighbor in love.

Don’t drink and drive: RCMP
With the holiday season now underway, law enforcement across the province will be paying extra attention to impaired driving during December’s month-long traffic safety blitz, Operation Overdrive. This month, RCMP is also asking for the public’s help in keeping impaired drivers off Saskatchewan roads. If you see a driver you suspect is impaired by drugs or alcohol, pull over and call 911. The Report Impaired Drivers (RID) program is in force across the province year-round. “We can all help make our roads safer – both by choosing not to drink and drive, and by reporting suspected
impaired drivers through the RID program, says Andrew Cartmell, President and CEO of SGI. “Let’s ensure everyone gets home safely to celebrate the season with family, friends and loved ones. From Dec. 1, 2012 to Jan. 1, 2013, one person was killed and 46 others were injured in 111 impaired driving collisions in Saskatchewan.* “Think of this as the best holiday gift you could ever give to your family, adds Chief Troy Hagen, President of the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police. “Commit to your safety, and theirs, by choosing not to drink and drive...

Dr. Keith DeOrio, M.D., explains that all your muscles, as well as your internal glands and organs, benefit from WBV. The mechanical stimulation caused by the vibration plate causes the muscle spindles to fire rapidly. This creates a neuromuscular response that leads to physiological changes in your entire body, including the brain. I think Whole Body Vibration (WBV) exercise is the greatest thing since popcorn! It makes it possible for almost everyone to exercise, even if you’re not able to do other types of exercise. WBV, ideally, is done by standing on a platform that has two motors – a vibrating motor and an oscillating motor. These motors send mild vibration impulses through the body, up to 50 times per second. This vibration activates muscle fibers even more efficiently than regular exercise. Research studies have shown that WBV increases bone density in the hip and inhibits bone loss in the spine and hips. Regular exercise is extremely important to maintain good health! We all know this, but often fail to do it consistently. Excuses include lack of time, the cold weather, the embarrassment of flaunting our bodies in public and the inconvenience of
