Welcome to Give It A Go! This is YUSU’s brand new initiative designed to give you the chance to try something new. Whether you’re a fresher or a final year, undergrad or postgrad, home or international student, there is bound to be something here for you to try out. Yes, your education is the reason why you’re here, but university is so much more than a classroom, it’s an experience. These one-off activities, trips and skills sessions could pave the way for something that you do for the rest of your life. If not, they provide an entertaining story to tell your friends when you’re back at home or reminiscing!

As a student at York, you gain a lot from the University and from the wider community...so why not give something back? RAG (Raising And Giving) and Volunteering play a key part in uni. By getting involved not only will you be giving something back and having fun, but you’ll also push yourself and will come away with something to put on your CV! RAG’s aim is simple: to challenge you to raise as much money as possible for charity Try something new and raise money while you’re doing it. The benefits are mutual: not only are you helping out a great cause somewhere but you’ll also experience some incredible things while you’re raising cash. St Lawrence’s Children Centre Trip Mon 5th Oct, Week 2 9.30am-11.30am Meet at Market Square, and walk to St Lawrence’s Children’s Centre on Heslington Road If you have a child under 5, come along to the Family Network’s fantastic session at the local Children’s Centre. This is a great chance to meet other parents, and for your children to try lots of new and stimulating play activities. This is a weekly session during school term time, every Monday from 10.00-11.30am.


The Advice and Support Centre (ASC) gives independent and confidential advice and information on student academic and welfare issues. We assist and represent students in Academic Appeals, academic misconduct, disciplinary and Fitness to Practice hearings, and signpost to University support services such as financial and visa advice. You can make an appointment to see an ASC advisor, or ask questions by emailing asc@yusu.org. You can also phone us on 01904 324207 or 01904 323720, or come in and see us at the Student Centre.

World Mental Health Awareness Day Fri 9th Oct, 10am-4pm James Hall/Yourspace Following the success of this fantastic day last year, WMHAD is a great chance to meet different mental health organisations and services, to discover new ideas for managing your own health, and to find ideas for helping friends experiencing mental ill health. Lots of activities, useful tips and information.

Do you know what to do if your work is affected by personal issues? A session on Mitigating Circumstances Wed 18th Nov, 1pm-2pm Yourspace, The Student Centre (next to James College) Don’t put your degree in jeopardy! If something happens to you, or you are ill, and this affects your ability to study then you need to tell the University. Come to this informative session to find out more about how to do this through the Mitigating Circumstances process.

#PlayGiveLoveWork is a month long campaign YUSU is running from weeks 5 to 8. Make sure you make the most of your time at York by getting involved with all the activities and opportunities on offer. Keep an eye out for more information over the coming weeks!

VX Sun 25th Oct, Sports Centre Squash Courts 2pm-4pm Come and have a go at this rapidly growing new sport which originated in Yorkshire. Men and women play side­-by­-side in this sport, likened to lacrosse and dodgeball. Come and see if it’s the sport for you.

Week 5 Octopush Tues 13th Oct, York Sports Village 9pm-10pm Missed last week’s session, or do you just want to try Octopush again? This is the session for you!
