YEARS OF ENTERPRISE EDUCATION IN SCOTLAND

Young Enterprise Scotland’s headquarters based at Rouken Glen park, is often described as the ‘beating heart’ of the organisation. Spanning four acres, our unique venue hosts educational programmes that support employability and enterprise skills, our social enterprise residents and community events. In everything that we do, we will work with the following values:

Integrity Enthusiasm Creativity Collaboration We offer tailored packages to host events, training days and bespoke programmes, which can be supported by a YE Scotland staff member. There is also the opportunity to hire any of our spaces to host staff meetings or team building days. Where possible we will ensure you have exclusive site access and with prior arrangement we can include additional elements to your event including bee talks, planting, landscaping sessions and site tours. Our site is WIFI accessible throughout and all spaces are heated with access to electric power. Part of our strategy is to strive for a carbon neutral site, and we ask that our partners and residents implement good environmental practices where possible.

John Hamilton

President, East Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce The Chamber has been working closely with Young Enterprise Scotland for many years and believe that their Square Go Start up Village offering will provide the young people of East Renfrewshire with the required skills and support when looking for employment or starting their own business. The area at the YES site is a fundamental factor to making this project so unique. It will be the only practical community start up space in the whole of East Renfrewshire and the Chamber looks forward to working alongside the hardworking and dedicated team at Young Enterprise Scotland to ensure that all school projects, school leavers and other dedicated groups of young people are given the opportunity to thrive at a time when they need it most

AR26 Charity was delighted to have launched our pilot Hope for Youths Programme in partnership with Young Enterprise Scotland in 2021, which is once again being hosted from their site within Rouken Glen Park during summer 2022. The concept of the opportunities on site at YE Scotland really excites us and we believe having their offerings on site will have an enormous impact on young people not only locally but nationally. We truly believe the newly launched Square Go Start up Village will give young people a unique facility not currently on offer, in a setting they feel welcomed, relaxed and supported in, in order to learn, grow and develop. A forwardthinking concept that we are fully behind and eager to be involved in as we see the long-term impact this will have on young people now and in generations to come.

Enterprise Programmes Greg Leighton,

Pathways

Employability Support Officer, St Paul’s High School

The Pathways to Enterprise Programme is a 10-week enterprise course for young people aged 12-21 who have experienced barriers to accessing formal education.

“I have a close relationship with the team who are very approachable and accommodating. I have worked with Young Enterprise Scotland for over 7 years now and our relationship is very good. Young people from St Paul’s have taken part in a programme of activities over a 10week period. During these 10 weeks the 11 pupils will take part and experience Sport, Landscaping, Barbering and Music.

The programme is flexible to allow 1,2 and 3 days per week for the duration of the course and can be adapted to meet the needs of the school and its participants. Our ethos is ’learn through doing’ and by combining practical experiences with personal development we aim to give each learner the opportunity to fulfil their potential and recognise their abilities whilst building confidence and self-esteem. Designed to aid young people’s transition from education to their next positive destination into employment, training, or further education Pathways uses Enterprise as the driver to promote skills development.

Jennifer

The results are astounding, 9 of the 11 pupils have been successful in gaining a college place, 1 has been referred to 16+ and will get the help and support they need and the last pupil has joined the army all 11 pupils have been successful and I do believe it is all down to Young Enterprise and their staff.”

Programme Participant I can’t believe how far I’ve came, especially with my confidence I gained at YE Scotland. I am moving onto Gateway to College on Thursday and then onto a BSL course in August. Thank you so much!

Volunteering Oppor tunities Young Enterprise Scotland rely on volunteers to enhance the learning experience for many of the young people we work with

Volunteering Roles with Young Enterprise Scotland There are a number of different ways in which you can contribute as a volunteer to our programmes and organisation:

At the Rouken Glen Centre, volunteers have the opportunity to become part of the beating heart of Young Enterprise Scotland and the wider community, and to help young people boost their skills, increase their confidence and engage in education.

Maintenance/DIY Volunteers with suitable skills can get involved in maintenance and DIY opportunities on site. School Programmes Volunteers run workshops and building projects on site with young participants on our Pathways to Enterprise Programme.

Our garden volunteers can get involved with light gardening duties (weeding, planting, watering etc.) or for the more physically able – digging, shifting, moving and clearing.

Anne Dobson Volunteer at YE Scotland

I got involved with Young Enterprise Scotland as I really admired Geoff Leask and the team and what they are trying to achieve at Rouken Glen. I’m retired, I love cooking, I love young people and wanted to use my skills to give something back. My own family are grown up and don’t need me to be making big pots of pasta for them anymore! The kitchen is a hub of activity with staff and pupils mixing and chatting over a meal. It’s so much fun and I love being a part of the team. Since I started the role has really expanded and grown so it would be great to have someone else to share the cooking and the fun with!
