YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCOTLAND • ENTERPRISE PROGRAMMES 2020/21
With a rich heritage spanning over 28 years, Young Enterprise Scotland has been working in partnership with schools to enhance and enrich curriculum learning with personal and employability skills. We understand the challenges that schools will face upon re-convening and are equally aware of the impact that this period will have on young people now and in the future. At Young Enterprise Scotland, we have made the necessary adaptations to ensure our programmes have the flexibility to continue to provide much needed skills enrichment for your young people in the 2020/21 academic year. Through our programmes, which have a strong proven record of helping young people to flourish, we provide opportunities and experiences for young people to discover who they are and what they’re good at. We have seen how our programmes can change the lives of young people in some of the most disadvantaged areas of Scotland.

YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCOTLAND COMPANY PROGRAMME
Our most immersive programme which provides a real-life learning opportunity that introduces young people to the realities of the world of work.
Our most immersive experience for young people. Running over the course of a full academic year, young people from S5 & S6 start up their own student company, running through the key milestones of developing an idea, conducting market research, creating the product or service, promoting that product and ultimately trading it. You might expect this to be a programme specifically targeted at those with an interest in business, however the 2,000 young people who participate each year across Scotland have a very broad range of interests. Company Programme can be used to provide a real-life context to many subject areas - design and computing involved in the design of the product, English to develop the persuasive language for marketing, or Maths to establish a profitable selling price - student’s involvement in Company Programme provides a rich real-life learning experience. Schools have also used Company Programme to support groups of young people who may require additional intervention due to low self-esteem, lack of confidence or social challenges.

YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCOTLAND TEAM PROGRAMME
Empowering young people with additional support needs to transition from education to independant living and employment
Team Programme is a year-long enterprise journey for students over the age of 15 who have mild to moderate learning difficulties. Designed to aid young people’s transition from education into independent living and employment, the programme develops confidence and life skills through working as a team to set up and run an enterprise. Students interact with adults and grow in confidence as they run their own student company. They make all the decisions about their enterprise, from deciding on the name and product to selling to the public with pop up shops. Each student takes on a job role and works as part of a team to be responsible for an area of the business such as finance, sales or marketing. Students gain confidence of handling money and understanding numbers in a practical context. They have the opportunity to open a bank account, interact with business volunteers and customers at sales events and present to an audience. Full editable teacher resources are provided to guide the teacher through the process of setting up and running the business. Resources have been designed to be flexible and meet a range of abilities and needs.
