YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCOTLAND WELCOME

Why teach financial education? We could go into the research that highlights the importance of starting to develop money habits by the age of 7, or the fact that young people who feel financially capable have increased happiness and wellbeing in later life. We could even spend a great deal of your time talking about the fact that from now until January 2029 nearly every young person turning 18 will gain access to their Child Trust Fund, estimated to be an average of £1,000, and may not have developed the knowledge, skills or attitudes required to use that money effectively.

In this e-brochure you will find a range of programmes and services that complement each of these tiers. It is entirely up to you which you use, and how many you connect together, to help develop your financial education provision. We hope you find the contents of this e-brochure helpful in advancing financial education in your school. We are always keen to hear how you and your young people are getting on, so please do let us know via our social media:

Tweet @YE_Scotland @yescotland

But instead of all that, just take a moment to think about the last time you spent a day without paying a thought to money. Not checking your account, making a payment, even just browsing for products (that of course all have a cost). It’s pretty difficult, right? So, if money is something that our young people will have to make decisions about on a daily basis shouldn’t we be preparing all of them for that future?

How can we help? There are no two young people that are exactly the same. We understand that you know the young people you work with the best so should be ones to decide how to engage them. Because of this we have developed programmes and services that provide three tiers of support:

1

In-school programmes

2

Professional development opportunities

3

High quality tools and resources

If there’s anything more you’d like to know, you can always get in touch with our Financial Education Team – experts in delivering financial education ready to answer your questions (no matter how big or small).

Working directly with teachers and young people in-school, supporting a whole school approach to financial education

My Money Talks Our My Money Talks workshops have been designed to run during the course of an academic year to support pupils in S6. These workshops encourage young people across Scotland to have a positive relationship with money.

YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCOTLAND TEACHER SUPPORT

What Can We Offer At Scotland’s Financial Schools we offer grab and go lesson plans that are fully adaptable, a reflection tool to identify areas of strength and areas for development and a pocket guide to financial education which highlights where financial education sits across Curriculum for Excellence. Our Scottish Progression Pathway gives a clear and coherent framework from early to fourth level. This supports the planning, teaching and progression of financial education by identifying what is relevant for each level. Look our for our new IDL projects coming soon this year.

Updated digital version of YMM You’ll appreciate there is certain financial information that changes quite frequently, and because of this we have updated the digital version of Your Money Matters to ensure it is fully up to date. These are only relatively minor amendments, but it means you can now see the very latest personal allowance figures, or what the latest tax bands are. Alongside the update, we have also developed a PowerPoint version of the Your Money Matter textbook that enables you to cut and paste activities, questions, and ‘Did You Know’ facts. Hopefully this provides a greater level of flexibility of the Your Money Matters textbook and enables even more creative uses!
