Part II. Writing the city on the Plaza del Congreso Plaza del Congreso, Buenos Aires, Argentina objective: Based on the study of the city, design a plaza in context of the city. site:

Viewing the city blocks from the ocean Dimensional Plaza A volumetric plaza lightens the historical connection between the official executive mansion and Congress in Argentina. A shifted surface emphasizes one of the most important city developments that kept being buried by the dense tall buildings. An elevated platform lifts our viewpoints to memorialize the submerged history while sunken part of a plaza creates an amphitheater with a better connection to the subway. By seperating the plaza with the busy streets, a historical moment continues with a new perspective. Series of perspective viewing the Congress from Avenida de Mayo

Defining edges at multiple scales is an integral task of architecture and urbanism, especially in the context of northern India where space is at a premium. By using a module to create paths and frameworks for public and private space, building edges extend beyond their footprints to construct hard and soft features of the vocational campus from communal gardens and agriculture to classrooms and private dwellings.

COPENHAGEN Urban Water Recreation

40

Water Recreation site:

Peblinge Sø, Copenhagen, Denmark obvjective: Develop a water recreational strategy to identify a potential spaces for growth There is a potential opportunity to shift the axis of a well developed habor front and find an underserved area in Copenhagen that could benefit from additional access to water and water features. The city center and the outer area of Nørrebro have the least access to water and public parkland. The design allows people of all ages, cultures and abilities to access clean, safe, waterbased recreational facilities.

Water as a driving force for Peblinge Sø Water has a power to invite people in many ways. Along the lakes most of the people enjoy running or biking. There is a restaurant that has the only bar plat-form floating on the water. A lot of people gather and take pleasure by being close to the water with friends and families. The E-shaped of the platform gives more surfaces to interact with the water. However, the Søpavillion located in the middle of Gyldenløves-gade, The southern part of Peblinge Sø, is barley used for the public in spite of its great location that connects Nørrebro with the city. It served as a local club and a restaurant in the past but not anymore.

Island with trees For those on the boat, a constructed island can provide fun elements to cross and pass through some trees. People can also walk on the water without getting wet or using boats.

Interactive edges For days and nights, gradual steps towards the water will soften the interaction with the people who paases by.

Panorama view of Pebling sø

Design the water for Peblinge Sø Peblinge Sø has great possibilities of active recreational space by utilizing the historic place of Søpa-villion and providing structures to motivate the public for diverse activities. Variations of the water depths and different kinds of edges give opportunities not only to be close to the water but also engage into the water. Creating a new Nørrebro landmark for water sports facilities will neutralize the highly saturated main harbor.

Various water depth For people of all ages, shallower body of water will embrase more activities physically without special devices throughout all seasons.

WINERY AT THE INTERSECTION Alto Pass Vineyard

48

Winery at the Intersection site:

8515 Illinois 127, Alto Pass, IL program: Tasting area, banquet hall, storage, small kitchen objective: Team project. Design an expansion winery banqet hall where nature of wine producing and human interaction make a dialog

49 Winery at the Intersection

The project began with the intersection of two mechanisms: the production of wine and human narratives. The narratives formed the human counterpart that runs simultaneously along with the mechanization of wine production. It is a building in two parts, echoing the juxtaposition of mechanical systems and human narratives as our main concerns. The production of wine serves as a formal datum that intersects with the human programs of wine tasting, the wedding, and the annual harvest.

The Urban Dweller

The Freeloader

I don’t understand why people tour vineyards. There are so many good restaurant and bars in the city where you can drink all of wine you want from all over the world. It is awaste of time to go all the way out into the countryside and drink “fresh” wine. I guess they just like cheap wine and call them “fresh”. I mean, yes, in the countryside there is no traffic, cars honking, no smelly fumes and no cheapwine disguised as fine wine. That is why bars like the sky lounge exist--you can see the stars, listen to music and enjoy some fine Italian wine. Wait maybe the stars you see in the city are satellites…anyway. Whatever. Even if they are not natural you can still get the same experience that you would have had at the vineyard.

Looks like there’s a wedding going on at the new vineyard, maybe I can blend in and say I’m the bride’s step-cousin or something. Hmm, I’ll just sneak in through the back terrace, I can’t even see any doors. Is that the bar inside? It’s hard to tell if it’s full or not. Well, I smell something cooking, might as well saunter in and pretend that I know somebody. Damn, this banquet hall looks huge, should be easy to make my way around. I wonder where the kitchen is, this food had to come from somewhere…I smell free wine samples, guess they must be around the corner at the other end of this fancy bar. Ahh, looks like they’re giving em out by the store. Clever. Well, they’re not getting shit from me. And what’s this contraption? Looks old and expensive. Damn, I’m getting some weird looks, better get the hell out of here before people start asking questions. Should be pretty easy to get out on that walking trail without going past the parking lot. Wish I could see the loading dock, I wouldn’t mind grabbing a couple cases as a farewell gift. Well, guess I’ll have to stop by some other time...

The Bride

I like to work with machinery, so it is my job to make sure all the equipment for making the wine is running efficiently. My only requirement for the design of the new building would be that it is efficient to the process of actually making wine. I don’t really understand the architecture I see in magazines – it seems like a lot of curves and angles, and things aren’t built like that in this part of the world. I like seeing how things work, understanding them, and knowing how to fix them. It would be interestingto see the machines for making wine become a way of showing other people what we do here. A lot of people are interested in how the wine is made and a lot of them ask me questions about what the machines do. It would be great if the building could be made so that it helps us be more efficient in making wine. The machinery required to produce the wine is huge and bulky, so designing the building with the machinery in mind would probably be a good place to start.the dormant vines carry your eyes with the grain of the landscape towards the buildings…reminds me of a view from a dog trot between the two of buildings that perfectly frame the rows of vines. Man, I can’t wait till the day is over and I can curl up in a blanket and enjoy a glass of wine.

I know what I want. I have planned this down to the very last detail. All I need is the perfect venue. I like the idea of having the reception at the vineyard. It’s a beautiful location and I like the idea of letting my guests be both inside and outside. The opposite of the function hall – (so expected, and overdone, and most of my friends have held their receptions in function halls) – I want to be different. At the vineyard, the reception would feel more intimate, more special. Also, definitely open bar! The space needs to be big enough to fit everyone, but not so big that it feels like a function hall. Lighting is also really important (no fluorescents, please). I want my guests to arrive in the early evening, just as the sun is setting, so natural light and a view of the sunset would be beautiful. I would like to be able to have the party spill outside, so having the reception hall next to an outdoor space would be ideal. It just needs to be perfect.

Edit the structure of the movie! Each color represents the structural element of the movie Inception. By playing jenga players become the editors of the movie and build a new story line. The editors need to controll the structure strong enough for tension. Blue blocks are personal objects as a connection to one’s memory or dream. Green is the background scene and purple is the cast. Pink is the devices to come out from the dream. And yellow is different layer of dreams. Play and build a new plot with all the tensions!
