NEWS OF THE WORLD LEADER IN ESSENTIAL OILS
WEDDING BELLS FOR NICOLÁS AND GIGI The Most Beautiful Wedding at the Young Living Farm in Ecuador Gary visits with Gerome Reynard, the manager of the first Young Living flour mill in Provence.
FOUNDER’S MESSAGE
Happy February! I feel excitement everywhere as we begin the second month of the new year. Young Living continues to have record sales each month, which could be the banner for the next eleven months to come. We, on the corporate side, readily acknowledge the amazing force of our members carrying our message of hope and opportunity to the world. Your success is our reward, as employees in our global offices celebrate with you. From the beginning, I have known that our farms are, and will continue to be, the foundation of our business; and I am constantly engaged in looking for more property to expand our crops. There are land possibilities all over the world, but I have to consider location, climate, soil health, good water availability, work force, and my ability to oversee the construction and operation. This puts a lot of criteria on any purchase. Most of you know about, and some have visited, our Skyrider Ranch in Tabiona, Utah. I have spent the last three years experimenting with different crops to see what might grow well there. We are thrilled that einkorn has flourished, already yielding more than 400 tons that are in storage ready to be processed. To my dismay, we have not found a mill capable of hulling this hearty grain; so with 300 additional acres to be planted and harvested this year, building our own flour mill is a necessity. I am happy to report that the ground for it is cleared and being prepared, the equipment is bought and being imported, preparation for it is almost finished, and construction will be ready to begin this month, with the help of our partners in France, who are currently in Tabiona, Utah, helping with this project. Last week, we met with the governor of Utah to discuss plans for Tabiona. Governor Herbert recently unveiled his plans for economic development in rural Utah to create jobs and opportunities where few have previously existed. So far, Young Living is the only company that has come forth with substantial plans to help bring the governor’s plans to fruition. He was extremely complimentary of our company, our growth, and our commitment to not only be a part of the community but to also offer ideas and implement our farming expertise to help other ranchers and farmers.
We celebrate the marriage of the Ecuador farm manager, Nicolás Chong, to his new bride, Gisela Garcés Rodriguez. On November 25, 2017, Nicolás Chong married Gisela Garcés Rodriguez at the Young Living farm in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Everyone who was there felt it was truly the most beautiful wedding they had ever attended. Words can’t describe the beauty of the farm, the beautiful blue sky, the golden sunset, the dazzling lights twinkling from every corner, the delicious food, the endearing family and friends, the words that were spoken, and the love expressed between these two young people that created an ambience of peace and serenity that filled the soul with contentment and joy. Nicolás Chong was only 20 years old when he came to Young Living in October 2008. He started as a consultant to the Accounting Department and in 2009 was hired as an accounting assistant. Eight months later, Gary asked him to take the position of purchasing agent, which he held until April 2012. The first thing we noticed about Nicolás was his dedication and sense of responsibility to his work. He was always smiling, always willing to help, and quick to do what was needed. It soon became evident that if something went wrong, we would call Nicolás; and he would have it fixed very fast—especially the computers, since most of us were still learning. He was always honest and his integrity meant so much, as his parents had taught him.
Nicolás was ambitious and very diligent about getting his education. He had a grueling two-year schedule, taking classes at the university from 7:30 to 9 a.m., working in the office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and then attending more classes from 6 to 10 p.m. School gradually became so demanding that he asked if he could leave the company for about four months to finish the school term and then would return. However, things did not work out the way he planned, as he started his MBA program. Although he was taking only night classes, he ended up working for the National Customs for fifteen months. We were in need of a farm manager, so Gary called Nicolás to see if he would like to come back to Young Living. School was not as demanding, with only a few classes; so on June 23, 2013, he started his new position as the manager of the Young Living Finca Botanical Farm in Ecuador. Nicolás was familiar with the farm and knew many

of the farm employees but had never actually worked on the farm, making it a big challenge; but he was enthusiastic and eager to learn. He started with approximately 70 employees and has grown to 132 and continues to expand. In 2014, while managing the farm, he studied hard for his MBA and graduated in December 2016. We were really thrilled to celebrate with him and applaud his accom-
plishments. Nicolás has done so well, and we can only sing his praises. Our Ecuador farm is extremely well run, and the employees love and respect him as a leader they can follow. Although tough and direct, he treats all with respect and fairness and has created a great working environment. In Nicolás’ words, “Young Living has been a part of many important moments of my life. I also have had the opportunity to travel to Peru, South Africa, and Utah because of the work. Working for you has enriched my experience and my life. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of this beautiful company.” Giesela is a petite, quiet ball of fire, who is independent and knows what she wants. She has a talent for graphic design, which she studied at the University. About five years ago, Gigi began her career in visual merchandizing as a window display designer for De Prati, a very large department store chain in Ecuador, and after four years was put in charge of the department. She designed their beautiful wedding—the invitations, displays, decorations, and overall look. Gigi is learning quickly about Young Living; and with her passion for helping people and love of God, she fits right in with our Young Living family. We know that her love and support of Nicolas will give him greater strength and creativity as the farm continues to expand and become a greater destination for our members. Congratulations, Nicolas and Gigi.

disasters—from wildfires and mudslides to hurricanes and earthquakes—that impacted thousands of Young Living members throughout the world. Your donations allowed us to help these members and provide them with care kits filled with Young Living products. With your donations and the contributions made by Young Living as a company, we provided nearly $6 million in aid to those impacted by disasters and delivered more than 4,000 care kits. Thank you for joining us in empowering many throughout the world. In 2018 our goal is to raise a record $10 million. To donate or learn how to get involved, go to YoungLivingFoundation.org. The Young Living Foundation raised $3.9 million in 2017 for humanitarian efforts around the world. In 2017 you helped us raise $3.9 million! With those funds, The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation came to the aid of families impacted by natural disasters and to thousands of vulnerable children around the world. We would like to share just a few of the Foundation’s highlights from 2017, so you can see how every contribution you’ve made is making a difference.
Nepal On December 2 we opened the second Young Living Academy. The school will educate more than 40 primary-aged children in the remote village of Yarsa, Nepal. In addition, we ended the year with close to 60 homes completely rebuilt in the village. Our goal is to have every home in Yarsa rebuilt by May.
Uganda In Uganda we broke ground on the Young Living Foundation Hope Center. This new building will serve as the new outreach center for our partner Sole Hope. Children and adults with the most severe cases of parasitic sand fleas called jiggers will come to the center to receive intensive treatment and education. Also in Uganda, we opened the first-ever Young Living Foundation Malaria Center for our
partner Healing Faith Uganda, and we’ve seen families, especially mothers, travel for hours or days to bring their loved ones in for treatment.
Ecuador In Ecuador we saw all 23 of our seniors graduate from the Young Living Academy! This was the second graduating class at the Academy, and the school continues to maintain a 100 percent graduation rate. In 2018 we’re looking at plans to expand the school and implement a baccalaureate program for our graduates.
Cambodia Another amazing highlight of 2017 was the outpouring of generosity you showed for our partner Hope for Justice and the work they are doing to end modern-day slavery. Hope for Justice needed additional funds to improve and expand its Lighthouse program in Cambodia. The Lighthouse is the first place of sanctuary and healing for girls immediately after they are rescued. You responded to this need in a huge way by donating over $100,000! Those funds are now being used to provide the best care and recovery programs for rescued girls.
North and Central America Sadly, 2017 was filled with many natural
"WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?" Add some creativity to your Valentine’s Day is to do it with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn—and make sure you’re creating private moments. Solidify this experience by creating a special blend to diffuse or wear; then continue to use it only as a “date blend.”
"Sometimes when we touch"
Whether you’re a hopeless romantic or passion pessimist, these tips are bound to warm up your relationship. Forget the box of chocolates or bouquet of roses: Finding the way to your true love’s heart is all about paying attention and demonstrating that you care about his or her individual needs. Focus on gestures and actions that highlight how well you know your partner, and you’ll find that you and your partner's connection and intimacy increase exponentially.
"Time, love, and tenderness" Sometimes, the most romantic gift can be stepping out of your comfort zone and joining your loved one in an activity that might not be your cup of Peppermint Vitality™ tea. The key here
If your partner thrives on physical connection, massage is a great gift. Create a special massage oil using his or her favorite essential oils and V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex, so the experience is completely unique and shows that you pay attention to favorite scents.
"Everything I do, I do it for you" Don’t mistake one act of service as a Valentine’s Day gift complete. Shower the one you love with a day or week full of taking care of his or her most despised tasks! Take on the big ones, make them count, and do them with a smile on your face! After all, these are gifts, not chores! Be sure to leave behind thoughtful notes and even a bottle of a favorite essential oil to let him or her know that you were happy to take on the tasks. If you want to add a thoughtful gift to these romantic gestures, try our gift-giving guide on the blog! Just search "Valentine's Day" at YoungLiving.com/blog.

FOUNDER'S MESSAGE Our intention is to engage other farmers looking for better-income crops to grow einkorn for us; and with a new mill in the center of the valley, harvesting and bringing their grain to the mill will be easy. As people throughout the world discover the fabulous value of einkorn as one of the only nonhybridized grains—with all of its wonderful flavor—left in the world, we will constantly be challenged to plant more acreage. Over the past several years, many of you have heard me talk about einkorn, hybrid wheat, gluten, gluten-free diets, and related topics. I encourage you to learn more by reading or re-reading Ancient Einkorn: Today’s Staff of Life in which I discuss these issues. Time will continue to reveal the immense nutritional benefits of einkorn with its polysaccharide content, as well as other nutrients, making einkorn one of the most superior grains we have today—definitely a step up from “frankenwheat.” Thank you again for your continued dedication to purity, integrity, and serving others as we go forward into 2018. Essentially yours,

When you open a bottle of Blue Tansy oil, you open a bottle that holds an exotic story about the landscape of Morocco. Morocco has a beautiful, varied landscape from the coastal Atlantic beaches and golden deserts to the agricultural plains where Blue Tansy is grown and harvested. The small flowers of the plant from the chamomile family are a golden yellow and change to a rich blue during the distillation process due to the naturally occurring constituent chamazulene. Blue Tansy is a rare, luxurious botanical often used in high-end skin care products, and you’ll fall in love with its ability to reduce the appearance of blemishes and to soothe your skin. Because of Blue Tansy’s potential to stain clothing or

The Young Living Europe market didn’t waste any time making 2018 an exciting new year. In January the market launched Savvy Minerals by Young Living®, our popular line of premium, mineral-based makeup. We’re so grateful for the hard work that brought this in-demand line to another part of the world and furthered our goal of taking Young Living to every home. The market also hosted its second YL Day on January 13 and had more than 1,200 hosts—that’s more than triple the number of hosts at the first YL Day last October! YL Day, known as the Live Your Passion Rally in the United States, is an opportunity for members to take the excitement and culture of Young Living to their individual communities. We’re thrilled to see how this event has taken off in a new market, and we’re excited to see where it goes from here. While YL Europe has already had success in the first month of the year, the market also celebrated several important milestones last year. A new partner farm, the Balkan Botanical Farm in Bulgaria, joined the family of Young Living partner farms, creating great excitement in the region. Members in the area have also continued to build their businesses, achieving a 37 percent growth year over year in 2017. Last year the market welcomed Corinne Delis as its newest Diamond, and Aditya Nowotny as the newest Crown Diamond. These achievements are a testament to the hard work of these members, their teams, and Young Living employees in the region. We’re excited to see the growth of this market in the future.
YOUNG LIVING’S WORLD-CLASS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT While many things make Young Living stand out from other essential oil companies, one thing is for sure: Our Research and Development (R&D) teams help us maintain our position as the world leader in essential oils. They work tirelessly to bring to life the products you love. At the International Grand Convention last June, Young Living launched 58 new products. This is thanks in part to our hardworking R&D teams. “We turn product ideas into actual products in 12 months,” says Dr. Mike Buch, Young Living’s Chief Science Officer, who oversees R&D. “That’s basically convention to convention. Usually, other large companies can take 18 months or more to do that same process. It’s incredible.” The number of products Young Living produces in a year is remarkable, but it’s not just the number that makes Young Living stand out—it’s the quality. Gary Young has empowered capable and skilled scientists on the R&D teams to help him create quality products. In fact, Young Living has the largest Research team in the essential oils industry and works hand-in-hand with leading research institutes around the world to advance the cause of science and essential oils, so members can have quality products they trust. One responsibility of the Research team is to discover new usage claims for our products. In other words, they find true, research-supported information about the properties of the products on which members rely. Dr. Buch explains, “Using science to discover new claims is just as important as discovering new products. Therefore, our entire team is focused on discovering and proving new claims that can add to the members’ stories for the products.” We will be highlighting the Research and Development teams in The Essential Edge for the next couple of months, because these scientists are involved in every step of the Seed to Seal® process.
