IN MAGUIRE'S WORDS:

“The word community defines more than just a group of people living near one another. A community is a city that builds a person. A community shares in the success and downfalls of its citizens. A community is a safe place to call home. Through my actions, I hope to instill these community values in the next generation of YSU students. As I reflect on my YSU career, community is the word that allows me to feel a sense of accomplishment throughout my four years. Youngstown is the area where I grew up. It was the town that helped build my character. I revitalized this community as president of YSUscape. I developed my own micro‐community as a resident assistant. I served and represented my community as the vice president of Student Government. As I prepare to leave YSU, I am honored to say that I was able to impact my community. Community impact is the legacy that I hope to leave behind through my extracurriculars. YSU has given me opportunities to lead, opportunities to serve, and opportunities to impact. Having an impact on my hometown is something that I am passionate about and is something I will continue to do. That is my legacy.”

ADVISOR’S THOUGHTS:

“Maguire cares about YSU and its students. He is always willing to lend an listening ear, a helping hand and a word of encouragement. He leads by example and encourages others to do the same. This summer while completing an internship in Colorado, Maguire still completed his SGA vice president responsibilities. He did not have to do this but he honored the role and responsibilities and completed projects by their deadlines. I was impressed by his level of dedication and commitment to YSU.”

– Joy Polkabla Byers, Associate Vice President, Student Experience

“Maguire possesses a character that stands out in the YSU community. He is dedicated to each of the various roles he has on campus. As an RA, he did an excellent job of community building, enforcing policy, and acting as an outstanding role model for others to follow. I cannot remember a day where Maguire has not been smiling as he always presents a positive and “can do”
