IN GALENA’S WORDS:

“My life motto is 'give back to what builds you'. After my four undergraduate years, YSU has built me. My vision always has been to give back to my own community through leadership. Whether it was within Greek Life, the Honors College, Student Government, by mentoring first year students, volunteering in the community, giving my input during Board of Trustee meetings, or simply juggling the many responsibilities a student leader has, I spent the last four years doing just that; giving back to the community as my legacy. I want to be remembered as a campus leader who inspired others. I wore many hats throughout the years: sorority woman, Peer Leader, Council President, Chief of Staff, Board Member, intern, researcher, and more. In 25 years, I want to be able to bring my kids on a campus visit to YSU as they decide where to continue their education upon high school graduation. I want to be able to walk into Tod Hall and show them my name engraved on the wall of the Board of Trustees Meeting Room under the name of many other YSU Student Trustees who went on to do amazing things. I want that name to be a reminder that anything is possible, and you can be anything or anyone. For me, that was an Industrial Engineer who's also a sorority woman that was appointed by the Governor to serve as a student member on the Board of Trustees and teaches yoga in the evenings after working multiple jobs on campus. That is what I hope my legacy is; giving back to what builds you and inspiring others along the way.”

ADVISOR’S THOUGHTS:

“Galena’s passion and dedication is very evident in anything does. I have watched her grow and transform into a confident and capable leader that inspires and motivates those around her. No matter the job, Galena is willing to take it on. She is always authentic and exudes self-confidence in whatever she encounters. Galena truly exemplifies what it means to be a sorority woman. She has proven herself to be a selfless and humble leader and one who truly works hard for the greater good and unity of our Greek Community.”

–Carrie Anderson, Associate Director, Student Activities

“Galena Lupochovsky has demonstrated her belief, pride, and passion for YSU since she arrived on campus. Her positive attitude, compassion for all, and willingness to serve has been an inspiration to me from day one. Every cause, every event, every day, Galena was all in! There is no bigger believer in YSU than Galena. In the dictionary next to YandProud is the name Galena Lopuchovsky. We are so fortunate that Galena chose to be a Penguin, and will represent us as first-class Penguin forever.”

– James P. Tressel, Past University President
