The ‘sus’ laws had made it legal for police to stop and search anyone – purely on suspicion.

‘Joe Turner is haunting, profound, indescribably moving. August Wilson continues to rewrite the history of the American theater.’ New York Times

Two detectives in an East London police station place bets on which party will win. A black man is picked up. He is incensed, believing that he’ll be fodder for an incoming government keen to flex its law-and-order muscles.

Winner of the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play.

Set on the eve of the Thatcher victory, this revival of Keeffe’s classic coincides with the general election of 2010. What’s changed?

After seven long years, Herald Loomis has been released from Joe Turner’s slave gang. Now he is scouring Pittsburgh for the wife he left behind. And for the road that will lead him to freedom and his rightful place in a new world.

A brilliantly witty and daring devised performance created with the help of the Great British public and directed by Lee Simpson, co-founder of world renowned theatre company, Improbable. Rachael and Lisa wanted to make a show but couldn’t think of an idea.

With no press night and no previews, Elektra will be an experience that we can’t put a price on – which is why it’s free.

Armed with a tape recorder, they went on to the streets and asked people to take a good look at them and imagine what their show could be about.

No charge for seats but booking advised.

What they heard and recorded was funny, heartfelt, sometimes jaw dropping but always very revealing about what we can (and can’t) imagine when we look at someone.
