ELK GROVE GIANT PUMPKIN FESTIVAL
For 30 years, Elk Grove Park has transformed into the ultimate autumn celebration, attracting pumpkin enthusiasts from far and wide. Since 1994, the festival has been a beacon for giant pumpkin growers competing for glory. Over the years, we've seen some incredible pumpkins, like the 2,138-pound record-breaker from 2018. Imagine the size of that pie!
Feel the excitement of carnival rides and captivating entertainment, the joy of unleashing your creativity with delightful crafts, the tantalizing flavors of food trucks, and the thrill of finding the perfect pumpkin to take home.
Don’t miss the Pumpkin Regatta, where massive pumpkins are turned into canoes for an exciting race across the lake. It’s a unique spectacle that combines bravery and buoyancy in the most whimsical way.
But that’s not all! Whether you’re a budding artist, a whiz with pumpkin recipes, a skilled cupcake baker, or a creator of scarecrows that could come straight out of a fairy tale, your skills are in demand. With cash prizes up for grabs, it’s your chance to shine!
Mark your calendar, roll up your sleeves, and maybe, just maybe, you'll be the next pumpkin legend. Don't just hear about it—be a part of Elk Grove's most cherished tradition. All the details await at CosumnesCSD.gov/GPF

FIRE DEPARTMENT
The Cosumnes Fire Department saves lives and protects the community through prevention, preparedness, and emergency response in a timely, courteous, and effective manner.
STATION 77 IS NOW OPEN
With the Grand Opening of Station 77 a few months behind us, we wanted to share a little about who the station was dedicated to, Fire Chief John Delbert (J.D) “Dell” Cann. The Elk Grove Fire Department was formed in 1893, following a fire in July of 1982, that destroyed most of Elk Grove. The Department was founded with a single hose cart and a small group of dedicated volunteers. In 1910 Chief Cann was appointed as the first Fire Chief of the Elk Grove Volunteer Fire Department. The department was organized with several volunteers and used 20 milk pails as equipment.
FIRE EXPLORER PROGRAM
The Cosumnes Fire Department has partnered with Boy Scouts of America to create a Fire & EMS Explorer Post beginning Fall 2024. This program is designed to guide high school-aged youth in choosing a Fire and EMS career through education and hands-on training while fostering self confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership.
Chief Cann became a constable of the San Joaquin Township in 1927, a position he held until his retirement in 1945. Chief Cann continued to reside in the Elk Grove area with his wife and raised his daughter Della. He passed away at the age of 82, in May of 1948. He is buried in the Elk Grove Cosumnes-Cemetery District next to his wife Louysa. Surviving Chief Cann were his daughter Della, a half-brother, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandson.
Six fire stations later, including two in Galt, it was appropriate to name Fire Station 77 after the first Fire Chief of the Elk Grove Fire Department; Chief Cann. The person who led our department for 15 years and grew the department from one station to three stations. We are sure he would be proud of how the department and community has grown over the last 130 years.

Pre-Register
Nothing cancels a class faster than low enrollment. Each class strives for a minimum level that will cover costs. If you see a class you’re interested in, register early and invite a friend.
Supply Fees
Supply fees cover the cost of materials that are used in classes to present or produce items. Some classes have mandatory supply fees that are required for every class and are included in the registration fee (example: art materials). Mandatory supply fees are always collected with registration and are not paid to the instructor. Some classes have optional supply fees that are not required for every class, or are not required at all (example: martial arts uniform). Optional supply fees will be paid directly to the instructor and are not included in the registration fee.
Hold Harmless Form
Some classes require a parent/guardian to accompany participant to the first class and sign a Hold Harmless form prior to participation. Please check to see if your class has that requirement.
Waitlist Procedure
Anyone can waitlist classes. Waitlists are not rolled over. It is the responsibility of the parent to place their child(ren) on the appropriate list(s). If a client withdraws from a class, the first person on the list is called and has 24 hours to accept or decline.
Receipts
In an effort to keep costs down, we do not send receipts by mail. Receipts are available by request.
Refunds
Refunds and transfers are granted to cancellations received 72 hours prior to the first class unless otherwise noted in the class description. Failure to attend does not constitute grounds for a refund. If you are not satisfied with a program, contact the supervisor. The Parks and Recreation Department will declare a refund on a customer account as an unclaimed credit when the refund has not been used or claimed within one year of issue date. Unclaimed credits will be transferred to the Cosumnes Recreation Opportunity Fund.
Fire Department Fee
Participants or those renting Cosumnes CSD facilities that require assistance of the Cosumnes Fire Department for an injury or illness while participating in our programs may be charged fees as part of that response and/or transport. These fees are separate from those paid to use the facility or participate in the program.
Right to Photograph
Cosumnes CSD reserves the right to photograph facilities, activities, and program participants for potential future use in advertising brochures, on the website, or other promotional purposes.
Standards of Behavior
For the enjoyment and safety of everyone, Cosumnes CSD expects all participants to treat people and facilities with respect and abide by all rules and other direction from staff. Cosumnes CSD reserves the right to refuse service to anyone for failure to abide by these standards.
Accommodations
In an effort to meet the needs of the community and in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Cosumnes CSD wants to ensure that all individuals have access to our programs. We are committed to promote positive participation and a quality experience by providing reasonable accommodations upon request and adaptive recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. To request an accommodation, please submit our accommodations form on the RAD webpage and the Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor will review forms and make reasonable accommodations when needed. KEEP YOUR CSD Clean and Green
The Cosumnes Community Services District (CSD) has been authorized by the California Water Quality Control Board and the federal government to conduct a storm water pollution prevention program at its properties and facilities in southern Sacramento County, including the 100+ parks it operates in Elk Grove
UNDERSTANDING PYRETHOIDS:
This group of insecticides is harmful to freshwater wildlife and can injure or kill plant and animals. They are highly toxic to fish, and dissolve poorly in water. Additionally, these chemicals can affect fertility, the immune system, cardiovascular and hepatic metabolism in humans.
AVOID PYRETHROID INSECTICIDES:
You can make a difference! The Department of Pesticide Regulation determined that use restrictions on outdoor residential use is the most effective opportunity to substantially reduce pyrethroids in California water bodies. Look at the labels of pesticide products, and beware of allethrin, resmethrin, permethrin, cyfluthrin, esfenvalerate, or other chemicals that end in either -thrin or -ate.
