CONSTRUCTING A STEEL BUILDING
Steel buildings are versatile and resilient structures that can be less expensive and easier to assemble than conventional buildings. Today we will show explain the basic steps required to constructing a steel building.
SELECTING A DESIGN The first step is to determine the type of structure that you want and the dimensions of your available space. Although steel buildings are available as pre-designed kits, you can purchase a customized kit that meets the unique specifications of your project.
LAYING THE FOUNDATION After you finalize your plans and order the materials, you must prepare the foundation for the building. Use a builder’s level to find slopes, mounds and other uneven surfaces. After you excavate and level the ground, construct wooden forms to hold the concrete in position while it cures. Position the footers and steel supports as required before pouring the concrete into the forms. Ensure that the surface is level.
FRAMING THE BUILDING When the foundation is ready, you can assemble the exterior frame of the steel building. For this you will need to anchor the frame to the foundation using base plates.
ADDING THE ROOF SUPPORTS After the frame is complete, the next step is to add the roof supports. You may need a crane or other specialized construction equipment to lift and position the rafters and truss assemblies. The roof can be pitched or relatively flat.
INSTALLING ROOF AND SIDES After you align and secure the rafters to the frame, the next step is to install the roof and exterior panels. These prefabricated panels can come in a variety of colours and are attached to the frame and rafters with screws.
Depending on your location and purpose of the building you may need to insulate the structure.
