A Stylish Condo from Two Local Greats Gulf Views

For many, a beachside condo is a lifelong dream. Waking up to the sounds of the ocean, sitting on the patio at sunset, entertaining friends and family by the beach - who wouldn’t love to live life like that? And, with a condo, you get the added benefit of being able to lock up your home and head somewhere else for a while without having to worry about things like lawn care. Grandview at Bay Beach offers people that waterside location paired with stunning amenities and great floor plans. Catering to both active and leisurely lifestyles, the beautiful, natural surroundings and nearby arts and cultural attractions offer residents the opportunity to live life well, whether they are snowbirds looking for a winter escape or year-round residents. With a club and social room, fitness center, yoga studio, tennis courts, guest suites and more, Grandview offers its residents the lifestyle they are looking for both inside their home and in the community. The location also allows for easy access to shopping, dining, and attractions in Naples, Bonita Springs, Ft. Myers.

Wanting to really showcase their amazing new project, London Bay brought on a long-time collaborator, Clive Daniels, to stage this beautiful condo. Sherie Weidner, an award-winning Clive Daniel interior designer, brought this home to life and showed a wide range of people what life at Grandview could look like. “I wanted this place to be different and special,” says Weidner. Knowing she needed to appeal to both the younger generation now buying homes in the local market and older people wanting a retirement escape, Weidner went with a chic, beach-inspired mid-century modern design. “Younger people are drawn to this style thanks to its clean lines, somewhat minimalist feel, and its flexibility,” she explains. “For others, it feels nostalgic and homey. It’s the designs they grew up with just given a new and fun twist they appreciate.”

Weidner picked a warm colorway for the home and infused the space with vintage-inspired prints and geometric art to give it a modern, yet grounded in history feeling. “I love the location of this building, and the whole time I wanted the Gulf to be my inspiration without using the colors we’ve become accustomed to locally,” she says. “There is nothing wrong with blue and gray interiors; they are a staple because they are beautiful, but coastal chic homes can take on many forms. This space feels beachy while offering a new way to imagine oceanfront design.”

ENTRY

Setting the tone for the condo, the entry features the first retro print and introduces one of the grounding, neutral tones Weidner picked for the unit. “I love to use charcoal as a backdrop since it makes the other colors pop in a really special way,” the designer explains.

“I love Sherwin Williams Iron Ore and used it here to create a backdrop for the art and to help create a designated space from the rest of the great room.”

Another way she helped delineate the entry was through the simple and modern applied molding used to create a focal point. In keeping with the theme of simple lines and organic elements used in mid-century modern design, she picked a light wood table and chose a hair-on-hide rug. Above the room, a pendant light with a drum shade pulls from the color of the accent wall.

I didn’t want anything to be predictable. I used a mix of vintage, female prints, and geometric art so you were never sure what you would see in each room - like a real art gallery.

GREAT ROOM

In the great room, throw pillows on the oatmeal-colored sofa and chair bring in warm pops of cinnamon, burnt orange, and deep mossy green. The seating arrangement is grouped around a stacking cocktail table from Adriana Hoyos, a currently trending element that is also a classic in mid-century design. At the far end of the room, a Universal Furniture media console features a glass front and multi-toned wood surround. It’s been placed on casters for easy movement and topped with a geometric print. Weidner purposefully varied the art throughout the home, saying, “I didn’t want anything to be predictable. I used a mix of vintage, female prints, and geometric art so you were never sure what you would see in each room - like a real art gallery.” This also helped her give the space an edgy, dramatic feel while keeping the coastal chic motif. Next to the console, an armchair with beautifully curved lines offers another seating option and has been placed next to a low, contemporary cocktail table. Anchoring the room, the wool and silk area rug brings in more greens and some gray to complement the colors of the stationary drapes made from Kravet Inc. fabric.

While Weidner wasn’t in charge of the color and cabinet selection in the kitchen, she was thrilled to find they perfectly matched her vision for the condo. The mushroom-colored island complements the rest of the home’s warm color palette and blends seamlessly into the other interior spaces. The rest of the kitchen features plenty of storage options, cooktop, double ovens, and a large refrigerator.

KITCHEN

DINING ROOM

Just off the kitchen, the dining room is a perfect entertaining space. The focal point is the beautiful, glass and walnut table that perfectly embodies mid-century design. The table is flanked by comfortable chairs finished in taupe and chocolate fabric. “I love this table because it’s not overly formal but it’s still very stylish,” says Weidner. “It’s perfect for a relaxed, coastal setting.” Iron Ore color and applied molding used in the entry to create a backdrop for the Adriana Hoyos buffet, topped with tall and skinny lamps with a natural, alabaster base with gold band detail. The buffet is a piece that is both functional and beautiful; it’s perfect for both serving and storage. Weidner customized the retro pool and water skiing artwork by adding the pop of yellow in the bathing suits and ski tips to add a playful touch. The room is finished by a modern light fixture that matches the feel of the design scheme while adding a modern element to the room.

MASTER BATH

A sense of calm is imparted in the master bath. Simple dark accents pop against the overall light color palette used in the space. Plenty of cabinets host storage and a large counter with double sinks. A walk-in shower and separate water closet are great both aesthetically and functionally. Here, another retro print adds a touch of sophistication and gives the eye a place to land as one enters the room.

MASTER

The primary suite is a relaxing space that showcases charcoal as the main, neutral tone. “I think this is a great example of how this dark color can be used in a way that still keeps rooms bright and open while adding a little drama and edge to a space,” says Weidner. A simple, American Leather bed sits against a backdrop of charcoal grasscloth wallpaper. The bed itself is topped with cream and charcoal linen, which match the color of the grasscloth and perfectly complement the olive green and cream tones in the geometric patterned drapes. The bed is flanked by two medium-sized nightstands. Weidner was looking for a particular size, explaining, “I knew I wanted to create a seating area near the bay window and wanted that chair to be oversized. That meant that I needed slightly smaller nightstands to make sure the proportions of the room were balanced.” She also chose the nightstands for their two-toned color scheme, which pops against the dark accent wall. Across the room, an espresso-colored wood dresser topped with Carrera marble by Universal Furniture is a quality piece that will last for years to come.

GUEST ROOM

One of two guest rooms, Weidner wanted to create a design-forward and comfortable space. On the accent wall, an Adriana Hoyos queen-sized bed boasts a unique, geometric-patterned headboard. Cream bedding is topped by accent pillows and a throw blanket that bring in all the colors found throughout the rest of the home, giving the bedroom continuity. Next to the bed, Weidner chose to use tables instead of traditional nightstands. “I wanted to keep an airy and open feel in this room,” she explains. “The rounded lines of the stacking tables continue that mid-century modern feel, and they don’t close off the room.” In the corner, the swivel chair offers a place to read. The drapes in this room feature a pretty droplet-like pattern set against a cream background and frame the sliding glass doors that lead to a private balcony. Weidner created a relaxing seating arrangement outside utilizing the same charcoal color found in the condo.

LANAI

One of the best features this condo offers is its water views. The unit also faces southwest, so the home is flooded with natural light throughout the day. The lanai is a particularly great spot to catch a sunset and has been outfitted with comfortable yet stylish seating options. The low sofa looks like one you would find inside, giving the outdoor space a true indoor/outdoor living feel. In the middle, Weidner topped a fun, outdoor rug with two stacking tables that are easy to move based on where they’re needed for optimum drink and snack placement. Two tub chairs in an oatmeal-toned fabric with charcoal piping offer more seating and add to the design-forward aesthetic of the outdoor space.

The Shape of Homes to Come

Residential Architectural Trends for the Future

10 | YOUR HOME MAGAZINE®

The world of residential architecture is ever-evolving,

reflecting changing lifestyles, technological advancements, and a growing commitment to sustainability. As we approach 2024, the architectural landscape is poised for exciting transformations, with homeowners and architects seeking innovative ways to enhance our living spaces. In this article, we’ll explore 15 key residential architectural trends that will shape the homes of the future.

Sustainability and Eco-Friendly Design

Sustainability remains a pivotal concern in residential architecture. The drive to reduce environmental impact and energy consumption is reflected in the growing popularity of eco-friendly designs. Homes are being designed with an array of sustainable features, from solar panels and green roofs to rainwater harvesting systems. Materials used in construction and finishes are increasingly sourced with sustainability in mind. The trend toward eco-friendly design is driven by the continuing desire to create healthier living environments for homeowners and will be a theme for architects for years to come.

Net-Zero and Passive House Design

A significant subset of the sustainability trend is the pursuit of net-zero and passive house designs. These concepts aim to create homes that generate as much energy as they consume, often relying on solar power and advanced insulation. Passive houses take energy efficiency to the next level by utilizing airtight construction and a heat recovery ventilation system. Net-zero and passive houses offer homeowners reduced energy costs and the satisfaction of knowing their homes are making a positive contribution to the environment.

Outdoor Living Spaces

The pandemic underscored the importance of outdoor living spaces and launched us into a new phase of design. Homes are now being designed with more expansive patios, decks, and landscaped gardens. These areas blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living, providing opportunities for relaxation, recreation, and socialization in the open air.

Outdoor living spaces have become essential for maintaining a sense of connection to the natural world and providing a host of benefits, both mental and physical.

YOUR HOME MAGAZINE® | 11

Flexible and Multi-Functional Spaces

The ability to adapt to changing circumstances has never been more critical. Residential architecture is responding with flexible and multi-functional spaces. Rooms that can serve multiple purposes are now more common. A home office, for instance, might double as a guest bedroom, while a living room may transition into a home theater or exercise space. These flexible spaces allow homeowners to maximize the utility of their homes, especially in a world where remote work and diverse hobbies are increasingly prevalent.

Inclusive Design

Inclusivity is a growing concern in residential architecture. Homes are increasingly designed to accommodate residents with various abilities. Features such as wider doorways, ramps, and adaptable kitchen and bathroom layouts are becoming standard. Inclusive design ensures that homes are welcoming and accessible to everyone, regardless of their physical capabilities.

Wellness-Centric Design

The heightened focus on wellness at home will continue this year and beyond. Residential architects are incorporating features that promote well-being, including

natural lighting, air purification systems, and designated spaces for exercise, meditation, and relaxation. A wellness-centric approach to design helps homeowners maintain physical and mental health, creating a nurturing and supportive living environment.

High-Tech Homes

With the increasing integration of smart home technology, residential architecture is adapting to accommodate these innovations. Expect homes designed with integrated technology systems for security, lighting, climate control, entertainment, and even automated chores. High-tech homes offer convenience, energy efficiency, and enhanced security, aligning with the growing demand for modern living.

Modular and Prefabricated Homes

Efficiency and cost-effectiveness are at the core of modular and prefabricated home designs. These homes are built with precision and speed, utilizing high-quality materials and construction techniques. They are often energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Modular and prefabricated homes provide a faster and more cost-effective solution for homeowners, while reducing waste and environmental impact.

Open-Concept Living

Open-concept floor plans continue to be popular. They emphasize spacious, flowing living areas that encourage interaction and create a sense of unity within the home. Walls are knocked down to connect kitchens, dining rooms, and living rooms, making the space feel more expansive and inviting. Open-concept living fosters social interaction and connectivity, making it easier for families and friends to engage with each other.

Sustainable Materials

Residential architecture is increasingly turning to sustainable building materials. Reclaimed wood, recycled metal, and sustainable insulation options are in high demand. These materials not only minimize the environmental impact of construction but also contribute to a unique aesthetic. Using sustainable materials aligns with homeowners’ desire to minimize their ecological footprint and create healthy living environments.

12 | YOUR HOME MAGAZINE®

Customization

Today’s homeowners seek personalized and unique living spaces. Residential architects are collaborating closely with clients to design homes that reflect their individual tastes, interests, and lifestyles. From custom-built furniture to tailored architectural features, customization is a growing trend in residential architecture. Customization allows homeowners to express their personalities and preferences, creating spaces that truly resonate with their unique vision.

Biophilic Design

Biophilic design principles, which incorporate elements of nature into architecture, are increasingly being used to create healthier and more aesthetically pleasing living environments. Features like large windows that provide natural light and views of outdoor greenery, as well as interior gardens and living walls, are becoming more common. Biophilic design enhances residents’ well-being by connecting them with the natural world, improving air quality, and reducing stress.

downsizing, energy efficiency, and reduced consumption, aligning with a growing minimalistic lifestyle movement.

Compact and efficient homes are gaining popularity, reflecting a desire for minimalistic living and reduced environmental impact. Tiny homes, micro-apartments, and other small footprint living solutions are sought after by those who value simplicity and sustainability. Tiny homes promote

Transitional architecture offers a versatile and timeless design that can appeal to a wide range of tastes and preferences.

Adaptive, Reuse, and Renovation

Renovating and repurposing existing structures is a sustainable and cost-effective approach to residential architecture. Adaptive reuse projects involve converting old factories, warehouses, and other buildings into modern, unique homes, preserving their historic and architectural character. Adaptive reuse and renovation reduce waste and contribute to the preservation of architectural heritage. They also offer homeowners the opportunity to live in one-of-a-kind spaces.

Embracing Maximalism in Interior Design

A CELEBRATION OF EXUBERANCE

In the world of interior design, the pendulum swings. Just as minimalism has had its day, there’s an increasingly bold and vibrant style people are embracing this year: Maximalism. Unlike the serene and sparse aesthetics of minimalism, maximalism brings in opulence, eclecticism, and the idea that more is indeed more. While this style might seem like a free-for-all to someone who is used to a more subdued home, there are ways to do maximalism well in your home. There are also different types of maximalism with some people attracted to cleans, modern lines and elements while others prefer to layer classical elements and colors that make a home feel like an ancestral abode with decades of history.

What Is Maximalism in Interior Design?

Maximalism is the antithesis of minimalism. While minimalism seeks simplicity, minimal clutter, and muted color palettes, maximalism revels in excess, diversity, and rich, vibrant colors. It’s a design approach where every corner, nook, and cranny of a space is filled with a captivating array of decor, textures, patterns, and colors.

Maximalism is filled with a few key elements that really make or break this style:

Eclecticism: Maximalism is all about mixing and matching styles, patterns, and eras. It’s an open invitation to blend diverse elements seamlessly.

Bold Color Schemes: Vivid, intense colors are prevalent in maximalist spaces. Expect walls adorned with deep jewel tones, vibrant reds, and rich blues, creating an enchanting atmosphere.

Layering: The art of layering is essential in maximalism. This includes multiple textures, fabrics, and decorative elements that intermingle harmoniously, adding depth and intrigue to a space.

Art and Decor: Maximalist interiors feature an abundance of art, collectibles, and decor. These items don’t just occupy a room; they take center stage.

Dramatic Patterns: Maximalist design boasts a profusion of patterns, from floral to geometric, creating a dynamic visual tapestry that’s both stimulating and inviting.

Modern Maximalism vs. Classical Maximalism

Maximalism encompasses a spectrum of styles and can be categorized into modern maximalism and classical maximalism, each with its unique characteristics.

Modern Maximalism

Color Palette: Modern maximalism often employs a more restrained color palette, embracing muted or pastel hues alongside bold colors.

Furniture: In modern maximalism, furniture pieces tend to be sleek, streamlined, and contemporary. They may feature clean lines and a touch of mid-century modern influence.

Materials: Modern maximalism incorporates modern materials like glass, polished metal, and acrylic alongside traditional ones.

Tech Integration: It readily integrates modern technology and innovative design.

Classical Maximalism

Color Palette: Classical maximalism favors richer, deep colors and opulent shades, evoking an old-world charm.

Furniture: Furniture in classical maximalism is often ornate, featuring intricate carvings and gilded accents. Antique or vintage pieces are prevalent.

14 | YOUR HOME MAGAZINE®

Materials: Classical maximalism relies heavily on traditional materials like richly veined marble, fine woods, and sumptuous fabrics.

Art and Antiques: This style revels in showcasing antique furniture, heirlooms, and precious artwork.

Detail-Oriented: Classical maximalism places great emphasis on intricate details, from crown moldings to ceiling medallions.

While the essence of maximalism remains consistent across both modern and classical styles, your choice will depend on personal preferences and the mood you wish to evoke in your space.

How to Achieve

Maximalism Right

Maximalism may seem chaotic at first glance, but it is, in fact, a meticulously curated and planned approach. To achieve maximalism right in interior design, consider the following:

Plan with Purpose: Don’t randomly clutter your space. Start with a plan, envision the look and feel you desire, and identify a color scheme that resonates with your vision.

Layer Thoughtfully: Create depth and visual interest through layering. Mix different patterns and textures, keeping an eye on balance and cohesion.

Focal Points: Maximalist interiors have multiple focal points. Ensure there are striking pieces, whether artwork, furniture, or decor items, that draw the eye.

Consider Proportions: Pay attention to proportions. While maximalism is about abundance, it doesn’t mean overwhelming a small space with enormous furniture. Fit your selections to the room’s scale.

Balance is Key: Among the chaos, maximalist design relies on balance. Balance colors, patterns, and the distribution of objects to avoid visual clutter.

5 TIPS for Incorporating Maximalism into Your Home

Pick Bold Wallpaper: Adorn your walls with vibrant, patterned wallpaper to set the tone for your maximalist space. Choose intricate designs or whimsical motifs that capture your aesthetic.

Mix Vintage and Modern: Embrace eclecticism by combining vintage and modern furniture and decor. Pair an antique chandelier with a sleek, contemporary sofa or mix mid-century modern pieces with ornate, gilded mirrors.

Create Art Galleries: Display your art collection and family photographs proudly. Arrange them in eclectic galleries on your walls. Maximalism allows you to showcase your treasures without restraint.

Always Layer Textures: Experiment with different textures, from plush rugs and velvet upholstery to silky drapes and intricately patterned cushions. The tactile experience is a significant part of maximalism.

Accessorize Liberally: Decorate your space with an abundance of accessories, such as decorative cushions, throw blankets, vases, and sculptures. These add depth and personality to your interiors.

Maximalism in interior design is an opulent, eclectic, and vibrant style that champions the idea that more is preferable. It celebrates the beauty of excess, layering, and the bold interplay of colors and patterns. Whether you lean towards modern maximalism with its contemporary twist or classical maximalism steeped in tradition, it’s a design style that invites you to let your creativity soar. By planning with purpose, balancing the elements, and paying attention to details, you can successfully embrace maximalism and transform your living space into a captivating work of art.

“A house is much more than a mere shelter; it should lift us both emotionally and spiritually.”
John Saladino
16 | YOUR HOME MAGAZINE®

Sophisticated Serenity

Owner Sheila Ruckriegel may have never heard of the legendary interior designer John Saladino, but she knew intuitively how to create a beautiful home from elegant bones. The house she made a home is this custom-built beauty by Arthur Rutenberg Homes. Serving as a vacation home for the family, snowbirds from Kentucky, it was completed in 2022. After its completion, Sheila called upon her daughter, Morgan Wolfe, who was a project manager for local interior design at W Design, to help her furnish the house. Proving the old adage that God laughs when humans make plans, as the interior design was just finished, and the Ruckriegels barely moved in, they learned they were about to be grandparents. Morgan and her husband decided to head back to Kentucky, and newly minted grandparents decided to sell this new home and follow the new little family to Kentucky—a better distance from which to spoil their new grandbaby.

First Impressions

Geometric pavers, echoing the color scheme of the exterior stucco, set a subtle tone for this stunning contemporary home in Miromar Lakes. Within its 4,934 total square feet, the home features five bedrooms plus a den, six baths, four fireplaces, a guest cabana, and room, in two climate-controlled garages, for five cars plus the four-person golf cart that comes with the home. Should the new owner be more water sprite than landlubber, the purchase also includes a 23-foot ski boat, private dock, and lift.

They turned to Jonathan Gunger, a Realtor for Coldwell Banker, to put their home on the market. Gunger, who is a CBC licensed contractor before becoming a Realtor in 2011, was the homeowner’s realtor when they bought the lot and began construction on this home. “The home is simply stunning,” Gunger says, “and by that I mean inside and out. Part of my value to potential buyers is pointing out things that might be less than perfect in the construction. In this case, I am able to say that the home is exceptional in all respects, just a truly amazing property.”

Gunger also has high praise for the sellers and the community itself. “The family is wonderful, and they have created an atmosphere in their home that is the perfect combination of elegance and relaxation,” he continued. “It’s located in Miromar Lakes, which in recent years was voted the #1 community in the USA for world-class amenities like the beach club and marina, full-service spa, championship golf course, tennis courts, and award-winning restaurant. The home is perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy the good life.”

Open Spaces

The simplicity of the expansive living room creates a stunning room. 12x48-inch ivory porcelain tiles underfoot provide the perfect stage for the creamy Italian leather sectional from Z Gallerie. Recessed lighting draws the eye to the 15-foot ceilings, the scale of which is made more intimate by the addition of decorative dark wood beams. 12-foot pocketing, impact glass sliders add to the room’s towering feeling, and a quartet of abstract prints punctuates the wall of glass. The gas fireplace, flanked by atmospheric prints, joins the navy pillows and throws, providing contrast to the room’s pale palette.

Culinary Central

The homeowner’s wish for dramatic ceilings was fulfilled in this brilliant kitchen. The tray ceiling, banded in dark wood, is inset with tiles from the homeowner’s native Kentucky. Four sleek pendants from Lighting First are suspended above the custom island. This is topped with a Calacatta Independence quartz countertop, and there is seating for seven on all sides of the island provided by acrylic and steel chairs covered in snowy performance fabric. “Guests don’t have to crane their necks to talk to each other,” says Sheila. The range hood and the hardware on the underlit cabinets are stainless steel for an industrial flair. The kitchen features GE Monogram appliances, including a double refrigerator, wine refrigerator, two microwaves, and four ovens to prevent any bottlenecks during holiday entertaining.

Entertaining Well

The show-stopping feature of the dining area is the glass-encased wine room which holds 42 bottles and is accessed by a glass door. A crystal globe chandelier from Lighting First shines down upon the glass-topped table with settings for eight via tufted gray velvet high-back Parsons chairs from Z Gallerie.

Cozy Up

The comfortable den has room for a crowd via the sectional upholstered in ivory velvet. A faux marble-topped coffee table with steel legs from Z Gallerie and a mirrored end table provide space for drinks and snacks. Cushions and throws offer texture. A giant and plush beanbag chair has traveled house-to-house with Morgan since childhood (“It will never be for sale,” she says.) Roman shades filter the light, highlighting the three earth-toned paintings on the wall.

Principal Space

The painted cloud ceiling is recessed and banded to give the 14-foot ceiling a more intimate scale in the principal bedroom. The upholstered bed, with its tufted headboard accented with nailhead detail, sits atop a soft area rug and sports organic cotton bedding. At its foot is a conveniently located, textured cotton bench with brass legs. The mirrored nightstand and dresser outlined in soft gold reflect the light filling the space from the tall pocketing doors. An oversized vase, gilded by the owner, holds an elegant floral arrangement. Over the headboard is an abstract painting which the homeowner purposely hung upside down so the print would “look happy, not sad. I am an optimistic person,” Sheila says.

24x24-inch tiles emulating marble from Wayne Wiles Floor Covering are used in the sumptuous master bath. Complementary smaller print floor tiles, combined with ivory wall tiles, line the glass, walk-in shower which has a trio of Moen shower heads. Floating underlit cabinetry in a light gray shade holds twin trough sinks in the white quartz counter. Recessed and backlit mirrors above the counter and built-in vanity chase any shadows away in this bright bathroom.

Cabana Style (below)

A separate guest space with one bedroom and bath allows guests perfect privacy while visiting. The cabana includes a coffee bar, microwave, mini-fridge, and wine cooler so occupants may start and end the day without venturing out of the comfortable space. The black leather bed is topped by quilted silver-toned organic cotton bedding from Macy’s. Mirrored end tables are topped in black, mimicking the black quartz countertop in the adjacent bath, and hold matching paperclip lamps with dark shades. Above the bed, black and white photos of the Gulf of Mexico contrast the and the logo of the owners’ hometown Louisville Cardinals showing off their love for both places they love so much.

Lanai Living

A wave-patterned rug leads to the home’s lanai. Under a teak ceiling, a seating group of dark bronze allows dining for 10. The outdoor kitchen, featuring a built-in grill, refrigerator, sink, wine refrigerator, and Kegerator, makes al fresco entertaining a breeze.

Outdoor Love

Set in a quiet corner off the principal bedroom, this part of the lanai invites everyone to sit back and relax on bisque-colored Sunbrella cushions of the bronze-framed seating group. Striated cushions add another layer of comfort, and the metallic coffee table holds cocktails and hors d’oeuvres while conversation flows. The linear fireplace is faced with the same stones as are found on the home’s front exterior. Lighting is provided by two glass sconces from Lighting First which glimmer with LED bulbs. A bordered outdoor area rug further defines the area.

Cool Down

The pool and spa, with a pool deck of Travertine, are lined with Blue Pearl glass tiles, which shimmer in the light from the 12foot long fire pit. When day breaks, in-water chaises, serviced by an accent table, sit on a sun shelf so bathers can catch some rays. Another partially submerged table with granite bench seating affords a perfect place for a card game or for holding tropical drinks.

Design Forecast

Bringing Elegance and Innovation to American Homes

The world of interior design is in a constant state of evolution, and European design trends often serve as a source of inspiration for homeowners and designers alike. This year, we can expect a fresh influx of European design elements making their way across the Atlantic and into American homes. From captivating color palettes to innovative styles and practical integration tips, there are European design trends poised to transform the landscape of American interior design.

European color palettes are set to influence the way we use color in our homes. Much of European design often embraces a more understated, muted color scheme compared to the bolder American preferences, although the estates and cathedrals of Europe can influence interiors lending their warm, rich color palette to a room.

Soft Earth Tones

Earthy, muted tones like warm terracotta, soft sage, and sandy beiges are popular in both European and US design. These colors evoke a sense of nature and tranquility, creating a soothing atmosphere in your home.

Dusty Pastels

Think the Palace of Versailles. While there are many rooms filled with deep color, the palace is also known for its soft pastel hues, especially blush pinks, lavender, and pale mint. These colors are soothing and can be used in modern ways to infuse European elegance into your home adding a femininity and sophistication.

Deep Greens and Blues

Rich, deep greens and blues are making a comeback, particularly for accent walls, furniture, and accessories. These colors add depth and drama to any room and remind us of the splendid architecture and design of some of the world’s most famous homes and cathedrals.

To integrate these European color trends into your American home, consider using these colors for walls, furniture upholstery, throw pillows, and decorative elements. Mix and match shades to create a harmonious and balanced look that feels both fresh and timeless.

European Styles and Influences

Scandinavian Minimalism

Scandinavian design principles have been popular over the last few years, and they continue to inspire us moving forward. The key to Scandinavian design is minimalism, functionality, and the use of natural materials. To incorporate this style, declutter your space, focus on clean lines, and use light-colored wood for furniture and accents.

Mediterranean Warmth

Many will read that Mediterranean style is coming back and immediately think of the design from the early 2000s. That’s not what we will be seeing this year! The Mediterranean region has a long history of influencing interior design but what will be integrated into homes this year is a softer nod to the region, not a full out overhaul. Look for a resurgence of Mediterranean-inspired elements, like arched doorways, textured terracotta tiles, and wrought iron details. Mediterranean style can be incorporated into a range of interior styles to add warmth and character.

French Elegance

French design is synonymous with sophistication and timeless style. To infuse your home with French elegance, opt for ornate mirrors, chandeliers, and Louis XVI-style furniture. Soft, neutral color palettes and antique-inspired pieces are key components of this style.

If you love the idea of adding elements from one or more of the style trends forecasted for this year, then there are a few ways you can integrate these styles into your American home.

Start with Small Elements

One of the keys to making this style work is balance and one of the ways to make sure you achieve that balance is by starting off small. If you’re new to European design, don’t feel like you have to redo your entire home - just begin with a few European-inspired elements and grow from there. This could be a Moroccan-inspired rug, a Scandinavian-style chair, or a set of French bistro chairs for your kitchen.

Focus on Quality

European design emphasizes quality over quantity. Invest in a few high-quality, timeless pieces that will stand the test of time. A well-crafted piece can be the focal point of a room and instantly elevate its overall look.

Mix and Match

Don’t be afraid to mix and match European styles. For example, combine Scandinavian minimalism with French elegance or Mediterranean warmth with Spanish colonial elements. Mixing styles can create a unique and personalized look.

Consider Architectural Details

Architectural details, like crown molding, wainscoting, and decorative plasterwork, can bring a touch of European elegance to your home. If you’re up for a renovation project, explore these options.

Embrace Sustainability

Many European design trends emphasize sustainability and eco-friendliness. Look for furniture and decor made from recycled materials or sustainable woods.

Personalize Your Space

Ultimately, your home should reflect your personality and lifestyle. While European design trends can serve as inspiration, don’t forget to infuse your own unique touches, whether it’s through artwork, personal collections, or family heirlooms.

European design brings elegance, innovation, and a touch of Old World charm to American homes. Whether you’re drawn to the simplicity, the warmth, or the sophistication of these styles can bring, there are plenty of opportunities to incorporate these elements into your living space. By carefully choosing colors, styles, and architectural details, you can create a European-inspired home that is both stylish and comfortable, showcasing the best of both worlds.

Floored by Design

26 | YOUR HOME MAGAZINE®

Flooring is the foundation of interior design, setting the tone for a space and influencing its aesthetic and functionality. This year, the world of flooring is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by advancements in technology, a growing emphasis on sustainability, and an ever-evolving sense of style. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the top 11 flooring trends that are shaping the way we design, decorate, and live in our homes.

1. Sustainable Flooring

Sustainability is at the forefront of flooring trends. As the world becomes increasingly eco-conscious, homeowners are seeking flooring options that are not only visually appealing but also kind to the planet. Eco-friendly materials like bamboo, cork, reclaimed wood, and recycled content tiles are gaining prominence. These materials offer a responsible choice that aligns with sustainable living practices. Sustainable flooring helps reduce environmental impact and contributes to a healthier indoor environment, making it a top choice for environmentally conscious homeowners.

2.

Natural and Organic Materials

The desire for a closer connection to nature is reflected in the increasing popularity of natural and organic flooring materials. Stone, marble, and wood flooring are making a significant comeback. These materials exude warmth and authenticity, creating an inviting atmosphere that connects us to the earth’s elements. Weathered, distressed, or hand-scraped wood floors are especially cherished for their rustic and genuine appeal. Natural and organic materials bring a sense of harmony and serenity to living spaces, promoting a deep appreciation for the natural world.

3. Mixed Materials

Flooring designs that incorporate a combination of materials are gaining traction. This trend encourages creativity and enables designers to merge diverse elements into a cohesive whole. For example, mixing wood and tile creates a visually appealing transition between different spaces within an open floor plan. Mixed materials allow for the creation of unique, personalized flooring designs that cater to both aesthetics and function.

4. Large-Format Tiles and Planks

In 2024, bigger is better when it comes to tiles and planks. Large-format tiles and planks are becoming increasingly popular for their ability to make a room feel more open and spacious. With fewer grout lines and seams, they create a cleaner and more streamlined look that can be visually striking. Large-format tiles and planks add a modern and visually appealing touch to any space, making it feel more open and expansive.

5. Sculptural and Textured Flooring

Texture plays a pivotal role in flooring trends for 2024. Textured flooring, such as patterned tiles or surfaces with a 3D effect, adds depth and character to a room. These designs create a dynamic visual tapestry that is both stimulating and inviting. Textured flooring enhances the tactile experience in a space, providing an additional layer of sensory engagement and visual intrigue.

6. Terrazzo

Terrazzo, once a popular flooring choice in the mid-20th century, is making a triumphant comeback. This composite material consists of chips of marble, glass, and other aggregates embedded in concrete and polished to a smooth finish. Modern variations of terrazzo are being used in homes and commercial spaces, creating unique and visually captivating flooring.

Terrazzo flooring adds a touch of retro elegance and a sense of nostalgia while offering a durable and visually striking option.

7.

Dark and Bold Colors

Dark-colored flooring is on the rise, featuring deep browns, rich blacks, and dark grays. These bold colors create dramatic contrasts with lighter walls and furnishings, adding depth and dimension to a space. For those seeking an even bolder statement, vibrant and unusual flooring colors are also gaining traction. Dark and bold colors bring a sense of drama and sophistication to interiors while allowing for creative contrasts and design flexibility.

8. Smart Flooring

The integration of technology into flooring is an emerging trend for 2024. Innovative flooring options are now equipped with smart features such as heated floors, integrated lighting systems, and interactive surfaces. These smart flooring solutions aim to enhance convenience, comfort, and energy efficiency in our homes. Smart flooring offers homeowners advanced control over their living environments, creating more efficient and adaptable spaces.

9. Herringbone and Chevron Patterns

Classic and timeless, herringbone and chevron patterns are regaining popularity in 2024. These intricate and visually engaging patterns can be achieved using various materials, from wood and tile to luxury vinyl. They add a touch of sophistication and elegance to any space. Herringbone and chevron patterns provide a sense of tradition and artistry, elevating the overall design aesthetic of a room.

10. Low-Maintenance Flooring

In today’s fast-paced world, low-maintenance flooring options are in high demand. Materials like luxury vinyl and laminate offer durability and ease of upkeep, making them practical choices for busy households. They are resistant to stains, scratches, and require minimal maintenance, allowing homeowners to enjoy their spaces with peace of mind. Low-maintenance flooring allows homeowners to spend less time cleaning and more time living in their homes, making it a practical choice for modern lifestyles.

11.

Geometric Patterns

Geometric patterns in flooring are gaining popularity, with shapes like hexagons, diamonds, and checkered designs making a bold statement. These patterns are especially striking when incorporated into tiles or hardwood flooring, providing a modern and visually appealing element to a space. Geometric patterns infuse a sense of playfulness and creativity into interior design, offering opportunities to express individuality and character.

The world of flooring is ever-evolving, reflecting changing design preferences, technological innovations, and a growing commitment to sustainability. As we enter the new year, homeowners have a wealth of flooring options to choose from, each offering a unique blend of aesthetics, durability, and functionality. Whether you’re drawn to the organic appeal of natural materials, the drama of dark colors, or the versatility of mixed materials, these flooring trends provide a canvas for creativity and self-expression in your home.

Welcome to this exquisite home nestled in the heart of Old Naples. This shotgun style abode was built by renowned Waterside Builders under the visionary expertise of architect Matthew Kragh, from MHK Architecture & Planning. This stunning three bedroom, four and one half bath residence stands as one of three houses in the prestigious Harbour Village subdivision, offering an unparalleled blend of sophistication and coastal charm.

The removal of sliders has magnified the back room, which is now an expansive 600-square-foot oasis designed for leisure and entertainment.

Undoubtedly, the pièce de résistance lies in the heart of the home—an impressive kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances, ample counter space, and elegant design setting the stage for unforgettable moments and refined indulgence.

Trends for the New Year...

In the ever-evolving world of design, color trends have become not only one of our favorite trends to cover, they also hold a unique power to reflect and respond to the prevailing mood of the world around us. As we venture into this new year, the color landscape different companies have chosen to highlight is a fascinating canvas of hues and shades, influenced by the current events that have shaped our collective experiences. These trends not only dictate the aesthetics of fashion, interior design, and graphic arts but also act as a mirror to our societal mood and values. The events of recent years have left an indelible mark on the way we perceive and utilize color. In the wake of some tumultuous times, color choices have increasingly taken on symbolic significance, conveying messages of hope, resilience, unity, and a connection to nature. With this in mind, the color trends we will see are poised to be a striking blend of nostalgia, optimism, and sustainability. These colors reflect our desire for homes filled with love and stability that are also a unique representation of the people that live inside.

Glidden: Limitless

This warm, buttery hue really lives up to its name as a versatile color that works as an accent or as a tone to be thrown across an entire room. It feels like champagne bubbles, a sandy beach, or a fluffy stack of pancakes. The honey beige tone also represents the new era of creativity and change. While Glidden’s color of the year last year (Vining Ivy) offered a moody pop of statement teal, Limitless is a tone that works with a whole host of shades while never blending in with the crowd. Glidden wanted a color that was versatile enough to work in unconventional ways. So even if you’re not planning a full design overhaul, it’s easy to incorporate Limitless into your home because it’s a color that works beautifully with both new and existing decor. In fact, they say to think of it as the “new gray”. Just like gray, this modern neutral is as adaptable as its name implies and is taking the place of cool neutral tones that are on their way out. This tone is a fresh, energizing neutral, making it a great color for attracting attention without overpowering a space.

While Glidden would never refer to Limitless as a pale shade of yellow, it can be the perfect way to inject a dash of sunshine into any room. The color’s adaptability allows it to pair well with warm and cool tones, making it a great way to give a room a glow-up. It’s also a wonderful outdoor color looking particularly welcoming on a front door.

Dutch Boy Paint: Ironside

Dutch Boy Paints’ color of the year is perfect for those looking to add a touch of elegance and charm to their space. Their paint choice, Ironside, is a deep olive shade with bold undertones of black. While not technically a neutral, this color still adds a sense of calm to a space. Dutch Boy Paints describes it as “very approachable, very usable, and very comforting”. The inspiration for this pick comes from consumers’ continued emphasis on daily habits that enrich their lives as they make their homes a sanctuary for well-being. This color supports the longing

for consistency and comfort in the home as it creates a level of understated sophistication. Their color last year was all about comfort, reliability, and versatility, and this new shade is an evolution of that narrative. The brand takes its inspiration from nature along with the desire to prioritize wellness and comfort in their daily lives.

To accompany the Color of the Year announcement, Dutch Boy Paints has curated three distinct color palettes that showcase how Ironside can be utilized in different ways throughout the home, regardless of

A part of their Renewed Comfort Color Collection, Persimmon pairs well with all of the colors regardless of your personal style. In addition to Persimmon, the other nine colors in this collection are Dark Auburn (dark red with warm undertones), Pearly White (white with hints of beige), Cyberspace (deep gray with deep blue undertones), Softer Tan (light neutral tan with warm golden tones), Friendly Yellow (airy yellow with warm undertones), Utaupeia (sleek brown with warm tones), Stardew (pastel blue with cool tones), Oakmoss (moss green with cool undertones), and Waterloo (deep blue with cool undertones). With so many choices, there’s a color for everyone.

your style. These designed color palettes include Embrace, Retreat, and Inspire. For many homeowners, painting with dark colors can feel intimidating, so these palettes can be helpful for people wanting to embrace these more dramatic tones while not knowing where to start or how to pair them in the home. If you are looking to try out Ironside in your home but you are unsure of where to start, Banbury has a few recommendations.

Sherwin-Williams: Persimmon

Persimmon, an energetic terracotta, is a warm and earthy shade that allows you to add a refreshing touch to your home. It balances the energy of tangerine with grounded neutral undertones, making it perfect for spaces like living rooms and kitchens as it promotes positive relationships and conversation. The beautiful shade helps rejuvenate a space while bringing unique design visions to life. This choice represents a full pivot from the color of last year as Sherwin-Williams believes we are transitioning into a time where home is becoming a way for people to embrace personal expression through shades that are unexpected and comforting. We have seen these tangerine tones emerging in consumer trends and decor and they are having a larger presence in the home. Persimmon’s versatility is at the forefront of this year’s collection, making it a great color to use in a variety of spaces like your front door or an entire room.

Valspar: Renew Blue

Renew Blue is a balanced blue with a touch of grayed sea-green that focuses on wellness and comfort. It also continues the trend we’ve seen over the last few years of letting nature inspire our design. Bringing the outside in has been a major focus and we’ve seen that play out in many ways from the cottagecore and fairycore aesthetics to the rise of more organic decor pieces. Renew Blue has been inspired by fog, mist, clouds, and glacier lakes as it elevates the everyday mood, encourages self-expression, and evokes a feeling of balance and calm. This beautiful color works as both a new neutral and a fun accent color that is perfect for mixing and matching across styles and applications.

While other companies have gone in a warmer route, Vaslpar’s pick is a slight shift away from the rosy reds, oranges, and pinks that dominated this year. That decision was intentional with the company wanting to stay away from the abrupt change from warm to cool. Renew Blue offers a simple step forward by harmonizing with warm shades, and even grays.

This color of the year also represents a prioritization of simplicity for Valspar. Normally, the company announces an annual selection of twelve Colors of the Year but their decision to only choose one color showcases Renew Blue’s versatility. It offers limitless design possibilities while emphasizing control and consistency. Valspar believes the home is a space where we are creating a sense of comfort and slowing down believes this color not only represents a slower, calmer page, the shade can anchor any design project. Renew Blue is also adaptable and easy to pair with so many other colors like warm taupe, or layered atop a pale tint like Dusk in the Valley.

Design and architecture aren’t the only place we see great trends. This year we wanted to highlight food items and recipes that are embracing trending ingredients or food concepts to help you get more creative in the kitchen.

Cacao Brownies

Makes: 12 Servings

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup cacao powder (unsweetened)

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup fresh raspberries

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on two sides for easy brownie removal.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the unsalted butter in 30-second intervals until it’s completely melted. Alternatively, you can melt the butter on the stovetop over low heat. Let it cool slightly.

In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and cacao powder until well combined.

Add the melted butter to the sugar-cacao mixture and stir until smooth.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gently fold in the all-purpose flour and salt until the batter is just combined. Be careful not to overmix; you want a fudgy texture.

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.

Scatter the fresh raspberries evenly over the top of the batter, pressing them in slightly.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes, then use the parchment paper overhang to lift them out and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.

Once the brownies have cooled, cut them into squares and enjoy your delightful Cacao and Raspberry Brownies!

Cacao powder is made from raw cacao beans and nibs that are fermented, roasted, then milled into a powder. Processed at much lower temperatures than other chocolate production methods, cacao powder is quite bitter but retains more of the cacao bean’s original nutritional value, which has been shown to lower blood pressure and risk of diabetes and heart disease, reduce inflammation, and improve mood.

Sweet and spicy is going to be a popular flavor profile this year. Popping up on more menus, this addictive mix is versatile and works with a variety of meats and vegetables and can be found in many cuisines around the world. It’s also an easy flavor to bring into your home!

Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings

Makes: 6 Servings

3 pounds chicken wings, separated into drumettes and wingettes

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 cup all-purpose flour

Vegetable oil for frying

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup honey

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 Thai chilies, finely chopped (adjust to your spice preference)

1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

1 teaspoon sesame oil

2 tablespoons sesame seeds

2-3 green onions, finely sliced

Start by seasoning the chicken wings with salt and black pepper. Place the all-purpose flour in a large zip-top bag. Add the seasoned chicken wings to the bag, seal it, and shake well to coat the wings with flour.

In a large, deep skillet or a deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F. Fry the chicken wings in batches for about 10-12 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, brown sugar, minced garlic, Thai chilies, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Cook over medium heat, stirring

continuously, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy. This should take about 5-7 minutes.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the sesame seeds.

In a large mixing bowl, pour the sweet and spicy Asian sauce over the fried chicken wings. Toss the wings to ensure they are evenly coated with the sauce.

Transfer the sauced wings to a serving platter. Garnish with sliced green onions and additional sesame seeds for added flavor and a pop of color.

Buckwheat is another trending food item for the coming year. It’s a naturally gluten-free, prebiotic seed that’s packed with antioxidants and fiber. It can be used many of the same ways wheat is used. One of the easiest ways to add buckwheat to your diet is through delicious and comforting soba noodles.

Warm Soba Noodles

MAKES: 4 Servings

8 ounces shiitake or your favorite mushrooms, sliced

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to your spice preference)

8 ounces (about 225g) soba noodles

4 cups vegetable broth

12-16 ounces (about 340-450g) extra-firm tofu, cubed

2 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced

Sliced green onions

Sesame seeds

Fresh cilantro or parsley (optional)

In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, honey (or maple syrup), minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes to create the marinade.

Add the sliced mushrooms to the marinade and gently toss to coat. Let the mushrooms marinate for at least 30 minutes, or you can refrigerate them for several hours for a more intense flavor.

In a large pot, heat the vegetable broth over medium heat. Once it’s hot, reduce the heat to low to keep it warm while you prepare the rest of the dish.

Cook the soba noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set them aside.

While the noodles are cooking, press the cubed tofu between paper towels or clean kitchen towels to remove excess moisture.

Heat a bit of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and add the tofu cubes. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown on all sides. You can add a splash of soy sauce for extra flavor.

Once the tofu is cooked, assemble the dish. Divide the soba noodles among serving bowls, top them with marinated mushrooms, tofu cubes, and sliced hard-boiled eggs.

Pour the hot vegetable broth over the noodles and toppings in each bowl.

Garnish with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and fresh cilantro or parsley, if desired.

Traditional Tastes

What’s old is new again and people are interested in tinned fish once more. A traditional method of preservation, this craze picked up last year and shows no sign of stopping in the next. Tinned fish is often overlooked in favor of their fresh counterparts but holds untapped culinary potential. If you are a little worried about what to look for and how to serve these unique seafood options, here are some ideas that will get you started on your journey.

Choosing the Right Tinned Fish

Before diving into serving ideas, it’s essential to choose the right tinned fish. It’s wise to select products packed in high-quality oil or sauce, as the flavor and texture will significantly impact your dishes.

Tuna: Opt for high-quality canned tuna packed in olive oil or brine. Solid or chunk varieties are versatile and work well in salads, sandwiches, or pasta dishes.

Sardines and Mackerel: Tinned sardines and mackerel are rich and flavorful. They’re excellent on crackers, in salads, or as a topping for pizzas or toast.

Anchovies: These tiny, intensely flavorful fish can be used to add depth to sauces, dressings, or as a pizza topping.

Serving Tinned Fish

Tinned fish pair wonderfully with a variety of bases. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Crackers: Tinned fish make a delightful topping for crisp crackers. Spread some

cream cheese on the cracker, add a slice of tinned sardine or mackerel, and a sprinkle of chopped herbs for an elegant and satisfying appetizer.

Toasted Bread: Turn your tinned fish into bruschetta by topping toasted baguette slices with a mixture of canned tuna, diced tomatoes, red onions, and capers. Drizzle with olive oil, and you have a delightful snack or appetizer.

Sandwiches: Tinned fish can be used as the main ingredient in sandwiches. Create a delicious tuna salad by mixing canned tuna with mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped celery, and red onion. Serve it between slices of fresh bread or in a wrap.

Elevating with Herbs and Citrus

Herbs and citrus can transform your tinned fish into a culinary delight. Here’s how to do it:

Fresh Herbs: Chopped fresh herbs like parsley, cilantro, or dill are fantastic for adding a burst of freshness to tinned fish. Mix them into your fish salad or sprinkle them over a dish to enhance the flavors.

Citrus Zest and Juice: A squeeze of lemon or lime juice can brighten the flavors of tinned fish. Citrus zest adds a lovely aroma and depth. Drizzle some citrus juice over your salad or fish-based pasta to create a zesty, refreshing note.

Capers and Olives: The briny tang of capers and olives pairs beautifully with tinned fish. You can use them as a garnish or mix them into a pasta dish to add a burst of flavor.

Pairing with Cheese

Don’t underestimate the magic of pairing tinned fish with cheese. Creamy, tangy, or sharp cheeses can complement the fish’s flavors and textures:

Cream Cheese: Spread creamy cheese like goat cheese or cream cheese on a cracker or slice of bread, and top it with a piece of tinned fish. The contrast of textures is delightful.

Feta or Blue Cheese: Crumbled feta or blue cheese can be used to enhance the flavors of your tinned fish pasta or salad. Their bold tastes add depth to your dish.

Brie or Camembert: Soft, mild cheeses like Brie or Camembert can be served with tinned fish on a cheese platter. They create a lovely contrast with the fish’s brininess.

Salads and Pasta Dishes

Tinned fish can also take center stage in salads and pasta dishes:

Nicoise Salad: Create a classic Nicoise salad with canned tuna, boiled eggs, cherry tomatoes, green beans, olives, and a Dijon vinaigrette. It’s a hearty and satisfying meal.

Pasta with Anchovy Sauce: Anchovies are the secret ingredient for a rich and flavorful pasta sauce. Sauté them in olive oil with garlic, red pepper flakes, and a touch of lemon zest. Toss the sauce with your favorite pasta, and you have a quick and delectable dish.
